Re: The pillaging of Iraq

There's always been threads where people chime in to express their personal take on the matter or add to the fire, but really this thread had some pretty reasonable additions or at least genuine reactions before then. It's not like we should expect Eulogy to have pulled out his own links and article...

Re: The pillaging of Iraq

This sort of modern imperialism is actually quite common for the US and Europe, as many nations in South America and Africa are paying billions of dollars a year for the cost of granting them sovereignty and converting their economies over to single-resource exportation during the 20th century. Coun...

Re: The effects of magical mass reduction fields on stuff.

Also, HOW THE FUCK DOES AN ASARI " UNIFIED NERVOUS SYSTEM " LET THEM CREATE BIOTIC FIELDS?! It doesn't. As I recall having read about the issue, it gives them a natural level of control over mass effect fields which other races require intense muscle-memory training to achieve. They still...

Re: Harley-Davidson Lightsaber (56k)

Considering the restriction of the parts source, I'd say it's very faithful to the traditional lightsabre designs. Looks fairly distinct, without being flashy. I'd suggest fishing it up with a detail or two taken from other items, such as old calculator parts. That rectangular metal washer-thing on ...

Re: The Working Woman's Stay at Home Dilemma

A major dilemma for working mothers, which in my experience often goes unaccounted, is just how many expenditures go into holding a job and caring for a child whilst away from home. I will admit first of all that I am not talking about high-salary 'career women' but rather the larger number of women...

Re: Covers that surpassed the originals

I would argue that the Jimi Hendrix version of "All Along the Watchtower" is actually better than the Bob Dylan original. Wouldn't really call that an argument; Even Bob Dylan said he liked Hendrix's version of Watchtower more. The man has been well aware his vocals aren't exactly silky. ...

Re: D&D anyone here (still) play it?

But you could totally work it - presentation wise - that classes were totally unchanged, and a single jig on the tables would allow the game to be indistinguishable for the nerd players... while still allowing the flexibility to actually have skills that make sense and affect your character instead...

Re: D&D anyone here (still) play it?

The art and setting is definitely something I am not fond of for 4th. It's gone very 'punk fantasy' without much basis on believable attire or varied character types (William O'Connor being the big culprit). Howard Lyon, Lee Moyer, and one or two other artists stand out to me, the rest are tolerable...

Re: D&D anyone here (still) play it?

Personal? No, you just irritate me more and more with every post. Its your attitude of putting this new edition on some kind of fucking pedestal, whining about things that yes, some of us do in fact like (why you find this so hard to believe is beyond me). But then, all 3ed fans in your mind seem t...

Jeebus , are we still talking about this? Utsanomiko, you are one pretentious fanboy twat. I'm sorry, I was responding to Satori, having posted again since the last time I was here, who has taken this notably less personal and bitchy. Which begs the question why you keep sniping at me specifically ...

Re: D&D anyone here (still) play it?

There's no longer even any pretense of out of combat skill use, as far as I can tell. Which is lame. Gather Information was my best buddy in 3.5. That would fall under Streetwise now, with various knowledge skills potentially aiding via relevant information. Like I said about skill challenges, desp...

This I would find very interesting to hear, for the sake of constructive criticism; specific examples of 3e lacking 4e counterparts.

Re: D&D anyone here (still) play it?

Wiping the slate clean is a tactic that works if you are willing to replace the things you took out. Otherwise you are left with an incomplete game. Going back to basics assumes you want to go back to playing a basic game. I don't. Lots of people who are now getting into D&D do. I don't have an...

Re: D&D anyone here (still) play it?

And why, when in the process of making that piece of shit edition, did it never occur to any of them (as it seems to have eluded you) that they could have simply, I don't know, fixed the bloat or whatever it is you don't like about 3ed rather than axing the previous character options? For ex...

Re: D&D anyone here (still) play it?

I play 4th edition weekly and I see plenty of class options and enjoyable mechanical differences (like Paladins vs Fighters), as well as conditions and special types of effects every round. It's merely lacking the same ones or having the same degree of bloat. The key factor here is actually seeing t...

Re: D&D anyone here (still) play it?

Level 5, or up to level 7, is reasonable for a 3rd level party's reward; the DMG suggests about 4 magic items in that range over the course of lvl3 as a good amount of treasure. I'm not sure +1 AC is ever an appropriate item bonus simply for being such an obviously good choice you'd never not want, ...

Re: D&D anyone here (still) play it?

Some may recall my distaste for 3rd edition Dungeons and Dragons, and the perception of d20 as a 'do anything' system through the OGL in general. My preference has always been for light simulationist systems without classes, levels, HP, or XP, so I never got into AD&D and 3rd's arrival just abou...

Well, I've added the PQI RAM, as I can't beat $60 less for a minor speed downgrade. Turns out my brother's price range was quite a bit closer to what mine is turning out to be, and he's really not keen on jumping down to an AMD. I think I'll leave out the extra RAM and pick up that E8400 Duo. Anyone...

There's some negative NewEgg reviews that have a rather consistent problem with the PSU and/or grounding on the front panel; the later is known to customer service and apparently fixable, and I'm a little less leery knowing the PSU seem...
