Re: PETA in the Federation

All good man.

I don't think there was much else said in Star Trek about animal experimentation.

Re: PETA in the Federation

Me, I was just talking about the fact that they referenced animal testing at all. As I said, it touched on it, it didn't really go into any real detail.

What're you talking about? I'm talking about the part where they're discussing experimentation on lower life forms.

Re: PETA in the Federation

Here's some more dialogue from the Voyager episode Nothing Human which touches on this subject MOSET: You're a physician. You know there's always a price to pay for the advancement of medical science. EMH: Sometimes that price is too high. Torture? MOSET: Your word, not mine. I cured the fostossa vi...

Re: PETA in the Federation

Here is a quote from the episode I, Borg whihc should put things into better perspective PICARD: Centuries ago, when laboratory animals were used for experiments, scientists would sometimes become attached to the creatures. This would a problem if the experiment involved killing them. I would sugges...

I have a large house fan that blows directly onto my case and external drives so the drives are always nice and cool to the touch.

Re: Repairing a hard drive?

I have no problem giving up on the drive, I have ample space with my other drives. Nor is the data on the drive important enough for me to invest a lot of money in trying to recover it. I'd heard that Linux might have some tools that could do the job but I'm not all that familiar with it. I was just...

Repairing a hard drive?

Hello all, I have a 300 gig drive that recently became non-responsive. It began as an occasional 'delayed write failure' error message popping up in Windows then soon after the drive wouldn't read in Windows at all. It's still detected in the BIOS at least. From searching around I found a program ca...

Re: Malon and their anti matter waste

I'm more perturbed by the fact that one freighter full of "antimatter waste" can apparently generate a blast on par with a gamma ray burst, yet said freighter exploding within a star is apparently just fine and dandy, and has no nasty side-effects whatsoever. :wtf: I only remember bits an...

tim31 wrote:Jesus christ, the scenes that Jark described actually lend weight to my little fantasy of overboard dumping in drums.
Actually the scenes I quoted seem to indicate the Feds recycle this waste and use it as a power source, so there'd be no dumping at all.

Re: On the Space Ocean

Here's what I found in the transcript of the episode. It looks like the ocean ball is about 560km in radius, assuming the field generator is at the very center. The ocean ball also does seem to be teeming with life as I think we saw schools of fish at the upper levels and a massive electric eel like...

Re: Malon and their anti matter waste

I don't know it seems like they could just as easily be talking about a highly volatile waste product that comes about from running a matter/antimatter reactor in the way the Feds do. Remember that matter and antimatter aren't the only things involved, dilithium crystals are part of the equation too...

Re: Malon and their anti matter waste

Voyager apparently spent months flying through the void. Couldn't the aliens living there just go elsewhere in the void to avoid the radioactive waste? Presumably there's a planet somewhere in the void where these aliens live, and it's probably close to area where the waste was being dumped. And if...

Re: Captain Janeway's Court Martial

I agree with this point, the more I thought about the events of “Scorpion” the more it became clear that Janeway should be court-martialed. Even if the attack on Voyager by S8472 was a completely hostile action on his part, do to his distaste for all other life, and all of Kes’ visions and her inte...

Re: Captain Janeway's Court Martial

It was indicated in the episode that the bioship that first fired on Voyager was charging up its weapons. Most likely it decided to fire while it still had a chance to because it knew Voyager was preparing to warp away PARIS: Captain, the bio-ship is powering up, like it's charging some kind of weapon

Re:

No, I claim they started hostilities by going into Fluidic Space and launching an attack. An action which was completely out of proportion to anything S8472 did to them. Going into fluidic space didn't seem to be Janeways decision. Here's what the transcript says about it KIM: I'm reading power flu...

Maybe they do have blast shutters they can lower over the window. Runabouts in DS9 had that feature over their windows which we see in the episode One Little Ship.

From what I gather with the Deep Space Nine episode and the incident with Picard noted above, it has to do with the "neural pattern" of the person. I remember a line from the DS9 episode where they said storing the pattern of their body wouldn't be an issue but storing their neural pattern...

I've been following this on their forum, but the relavent thread is just too large to read through. Apparently the interview's 6 months old and a lot of what we've seen has been tweaked and polish...
