Re: Wikileaks, Sratfor Confidential Edition
Lots of fun definitions: ATF - Alcohol Tobacco and Fire Arms. Rednecks with a license to kill. Never, ever, ever ask for their help on anything. Green-carder - A source working for you because he believes that you will take him to America where he will own a Seven-Eleven. Try not to disabuse him unt...

Re: Are fixed defenses superior to ships in Star Trek?
The problem with such a solution is that it's obvious they were trying to fit a square peg into a round hole... they needed a way for our heroes to succeed without having to brute force punch their way through. However, making the entire defense grid subject to a single source of power, without bac...

Re: Solar Panels Cheaper Than Grid Power In India
They'll need some way to store power for when the sun isn't shining (i.e. solar power for night lamps is 'tricky'), but that is a known problem. Compressed air tanks, pumped storage for hydroelectric, batteries, and since they don't have to last more than a few hours vs all night it will require les...

Re: Modular organism assembly
The weirder way might be trying to use a multi-injector 3-D printer to try and grow the organism. You have injectors for muscle cells, blood vessel wall cells, bone pieces, nerves, etc. Layering from bottom to top, rather than inside out like 5th Element's Leloo. here A minor method might be just pr...

If you want one where humanity has a chance, you wouldn't enjoy the War against the Chtorr , by David Gerrold. Earth is being xenoformed by an alien ecology very effectively (first waves of plagues took out 3/4 of humanity). In the book, they estimate a worse-case scenario of losing in 10 years (aka...

This is just turn 1. Other companies can (and hopefully will) come in later. Since you two did show interest, I won't run turn 2 until Feb 10. You two have $ 23B for designs, equipping an Assembly line, and building something. Honestly, I put up the rules on Dec 31, and only Rabid PM'd me asking me ...

How about a variant of Amazons and Aliens , but without the stupid, the or the lag problems for the insects? Humanity is nothing more than a bunch of scattered tribes, trying to survive among the two other alien races. They have magic users among themselves, and can turn a desert into a vibrant fore...

True about the rules. I'll start the next set of posts now. Game start: Each company starts with $20 B, and one Assembly Line. This $20 B is your to spend on Designs, equipping an Assembly Line, building stuff, and any purchases from the IASA. Companies that join later get more cash to play with ($2...

I am thinking about starting a Space Tycoon Roleplay game, where people play the CEO of a space corporation, and use actual numbers to design stuff, equip an assembly line, and build them, to be launched in space. As a D&D gamer, I'd be an artificer . What's better than space tech? Magic space tech! Now if somebody gets us some sort of practical nanoassemblers my job gets even easier as crafting time drops, we can make a wider range of cool stuff, and I can top it off with magic. Too bad we can't get the...

Re: Modular Starships
Trying to adapt horrible videogame mechanics into engineering is just a daft idea. This concept only works if you expect to be hit and you expect to not instantly be destroyed, which is a pretty narrow situation. If the enemy weapons are powerful, the entire ship will be destroyed or rendered usele...

Mechanically, L5R's 4th edition is the best I've seen, although I don't care for the setting. Have you considered other settings to us with L5R? If so, what were they, and how did you change the skills/talents/(dis)advantages? I had been thinking about Ooku as a potential setting, not sure how it w...

One stunt they could do is text files for the weapons, research topics, etc. This allows people to import new weapons into the game, add them to a research tree, modify the tree, etc. They would have to set up a standardized format so modders can add items and projects. Add a similar method for addi...

Uh yeah, it is. Because at the start of season six the Federation lost an entire fleet of around a hundred ships and that was clear cue from the writers to us that things had gotten a bit desperate. The SoA threat was a Dominion fleet that would vanquish the Federation and it was what, low thousand...

I'm wondering if one of the Cardassians could have looked at Weyoun and the Founder and said, "their gods are gods," similar to Ten Commandments Pharoah. Follow that up with Dukat getting the Pah Wraith inside himself, then to the Orb, etc. But instead of closing the wormhole, it burns it ...

T-X style exterior? Good way to dump extra heat when necessary, or minimize profile from whichever angle the enemy is. Have the exterior form lots of surface when you need to dump heat, then shrink down when you need to engage the enemy.
And with Wrex there, the team is getting put together.
