Re: The Inner Sphere will tremble once again!
HBS set the game in 3025, so well before the Clan invasion. They have stated if it does well, they would like to do expansions that advance the time line.

Friend and I playing X-wing Miniatures: RM (contemplating his next maneuver): "I think I have to do this. It puts me in a bad position next round, but that is a problem for future me to solve." *next round* RM: "Remember how I said this was a problem for future me to solve? Rekkon: &q...

Re: Mass of Starfighters and Vehicles
Another random observation is that it is interesting that the entirety of the Rebel fighter force is capable of FTL. Which makes some sense from a strategy standpoint, but from a cost standpoint it is suprising that they lack cheaper non-FTL fighters to back up the primaries. They would at least be...

They could always use something like Colonial Marines' excuse. Weyland-Yutani overtakes the Sulaco, pulls out Hicks and falsifies the body/pod records.

Still playing, though I was gone over the weekend and did not get to recover any progress. IJN DDs are going to be my top priority.

I have the misfortune to be in Idaho this weekend, so you can guess what I had to listen to in the restaurant.

Re: World of Warships
I thought the Myogi was fine. Its additional range over the Kawachi was certainly welcome. Perhaps I ended up running away a disproportionate amount of the time, but two aft turrets never bothered me.

Re: World of Warships
I knew I was going to like destroyers, but I have become unexpectedly fond of American cruisers. DD hunting in the Omaha is one of my new favorite activities. I wish dive bombers were less useless though.

Re: TIE Fighter short movie
Launching shuttles and tugs early makes a certain amount of sense, especially in this case where the Empire had overwhelming numerical superiority, and the Rebels probably could not spare fighters to engage secondary targets. If a pilot ejects early, he might not survive the duration of the battle, ...

Re: White Star vs. SSV Normandy SR-1
If memory serves, Sheridan says most ships that size cannot make their own jump points, which implies the capability is not entirely unknown. Most ships can't the Whitestar being an obvious exception. I don't think he knew of any other exceptions at the time, but Shadow scouts and fighters also see...

Re: Star Wars: Rebels
I think I recall hearing that Tarkin sent someone out of an airlock in one EU work, though I'm not clear on the details. Yup. Tarkin's relationship with Daala led to some rumors among subordinates that she had only obtained her rank by sleeping with the Grand Moff. Enraged when he overhead one youn...

Re: White Star vs. SSV Normandy SR-1
The White Star's main beam seems comparable to those on Omegas/G'Quans. Same with the secondary pulse armament. The bigger ships mount more of those weapons, but the WS (at about a third the length) is a superior platform in terms of mobility and flexibility. I think 1/3 is a stretch. I don't think...

Re: White Star vs. SSV Normandy SR-1
It did, but that was with a ~25 second burst (a chunk of which was "all power to guns") against a solo sitting duck that was jammed. That is a far longer time on target than White Stars ever get in an actual battle, against Omegas or anything else . Compare that to the firing times they h...

Re: White Star vs. SSV Normandy SR-1
If memory serves, we never see White Stars performing firepower feats comparable to Sharlins (like the one that essentially one-shot an entire EA station in In the Beginning), though there are precious few situations where we get good views of the two classes engaging similar things. I may remember...

Re: White Star vs. SSV Normandy SR-1
To elaborate on this. I did the calculations myself a while back. The beam weapons on an EA destroyer, weapons a White Star's main armament out-classes considerably (given that minbari beam arrays can bisect EA ships fairly readily, and EA beams cannot do the same to their own ships) have yields in...

Re: Lucasarts on GOG
Man, I spent so much time playing Rebellion. Still have fond memories of an old shipyard sector where a bunch of systems could crank out an Imperial II Star Destroyer per month or deploying the first Interdictors to pin Rebel scum for annihilation. That and preventing their wily heroes from escaping...

Re: The Race (World War) invade Pandora (Avatar)
The Race's problem with Earth was that their intel was a couple hundred years out of date. They probed us, found a Middle Ages society and expected that still to be the case when they finally got here, as had been the case with their other two conquests. Instead the Tosevites had enough technology t...
