A contestant waxing poetic about how America is a country of choice and concluding with "but not in marriage" is more than enough to deny her the crown, imo.

Any competitive runners here?

I'm generally not real big on New Years resolutions, but the whole theme made me realize that my upcoming year is going to be considerably different than it has been in the past, since I'm taking the year between graduation and post-grad off. In short, I'm going to have slightly more time and was th...

Re: First Votes cast: Dixville Notch for Obama in a Landslide

Voted at 7:30 this morning before going to work. Even got a "I Voted" sticker out of the deal. Krispy Kreme is offering a free star shape sprinkled doughnut if you come in with a "I Voted" sticker. Also, Starbucks is offering a free coffee or tea. I think it's only a tall size, ...

Re: What Defeat Will Do To The GOP (Op-ED)

The Republican base didn't even like McCain. Even a cursory glance at a right wing blog like Michelle Malkin's will show just how much disdain that had for the man during the primaries (do a quick search for "Shamnesty", even.) It will not cause a soul search because McCain has never repre...

Ghetto edit: unless, of course, she deliberately chose to wear that sweatshirt because of what "PUMA" stands for in a political context, but I tend to give folks the benefit of the doubt.

Watched the old white lady in the PUMA sweatshirt go by, and all the way back to get in the correct line. Watched the crowd ignore her stupid ass, without so much as 'Bitch, what the hell were you thinking?' looks. Marveled at the forbearance of my fellow man, since I felt like shouting that phrase...

Rochester, NY. I really hate those machines. I considered a write-in until I learned that a) your write-in vote only counts if it's for an official write-in candidate who filled out paperwork; and b) it's kind of weird in those booths.

I was watching it with a friend, and we were joking about possible drinking game or bingo sorts of phraises to look out for. We plotted a few out beforehand, then added some later. I feel like a special needs child after listening to Palin. She managed to drop soccer moms not even five minutes into the debate and tried to manipulate every question so she could simply work in her blatantly memorized, wholesale talking points. Biden ran circles around her. Yeah, I disagreed with...

I knew early on I wanted to go to law school. I joke about figuring things out but that's only because right now is the time I have to buckle down and take the LSATs/apply to law school. Because of this, my major was largely irrelevant and my GPA was more important (though a 3.8 as an engineering ma...

"Shorty", "baby boo" and any other slang often heard in rap/r&b music to refer to a girlfriend. Or at least to an individual I assume is girlfriend. It might just be the nice way to refer to bitches and hos for all I know.

Don't these schools typically have an entrance exam one would have to pass beforehand? I went to Catholic schools my whole life and we tested in. Granted this is anecdotal, but most people I know who support Obama loathe Hillary. Some would rather vote McCain.

He says Muslims should not have to choose between "the stark alternatives of cultural loyalty or state loyalty".
What a false dichotomy. It has nothing to do with "loyalty." It has everything to do with a state system preventing cultural oppressiveness.

What about Ron Paul as McCain's VP? According to BBC he's still in the race. Besides irreconcilable positions on things like the War in Iraq, McCain has been a bit of a dick to Paul, particularly when he was barred from the Fox News debate. Even if McCain really does respect and/or like Paul, I rec...

I'm really glad Paul got second. The other Republican candidates are awful, and at the least it is proof that even 'fringe' candidates can gain decent momentum. I want to say that I really hope Giuliani flops in Florida because I am tired of hearing how he is "just biding his time", but I ...

If I was a registered Democrat, I'd vote for Obama. In fact, barring a Ron Paul Republican nomination (ha), I'll vote for him in the general should he get the Democratic nomination. All candidates besides those two are status quo candidates, in my opinion.
