Re: Thank you to the Mods

Can we just not? I don't want to sound like a back seat mod, but I do believe both you and TRR have been warned about Vendetta behavior in the past, and I don't want to see this thread locked and shamed or something. Either way, TRR is not the subject of this thread, nor should he be regardless of ...

Re: Possible new species of cat discovered on Corsica.

Very cool.

I doubt its mankind encroachment, that island has been well populated for several thousand years. Rather I suspect it's more an aspect of apathy and assumption, we don't expect to find a new kind of mammal on an island... populated for that long.

Re: Does space dock even make sense?

No question you would need enclosed space docks. For radiation protection of work crews, after all said workers might spend whole careers working in open space, retention of lost tools, protection of key systems (while taken apart) from long range spying, micrometeorite protection and a couple other...

Re: "Archer" Season 10 trailer.

The creator said he wanted to do 10 seasons a few years ago, and frankly if this is what season 10 is, I'd be a little surprised if that isn't what happens. It's kinda the last frontier for the show, and it's going to burn it's jokes really fast. There is however no official word on this since 2016....

Re: Blizzard Re-Releases Diablo-1

Why are people dumping on valve here? Anything that's blizzard Activision linked is more or less automatically not going to be on steam. They are far too direct of competitors. GOG meanwhile is run by CD Projekt, a company that has exactly one franchise released, which was based on licensed content ...

Re: Alita (spoilers)

A profit worth following up seems unlikely at this point, the Japanese film market isn't that big at all. But it was not a well promoted movie so it might not have had the 300 million dollar marketing budget that kills most films profits either. James Cameron first said he was making the movie almos...

This wins for being a confusing threat title that didn't get much less confusing upon reading.

I can see it though, now that I understand it.

Re: Airbus has announced it will end production of its flagship A380 superjumbo, potentially putting UK jobs at risk.

Its a bit of a blow for my area - not many skilled jobs around and the welsh government had hopes of the wings being made here transforming into a bigger sector. Apparently the plant is making wings for the A320 and A350 so it might survive as a site more easily then I thought, depending mainly Bre...

Stupid plane based on insane market forecasts with no basis in reality. Cool, but stupid. Everyone building it is probably out of a job because the engines aren't used by anything else and are basically obsolete (Rolls aren't meeting design specs as is, part of why Emirates is throwing in the towel ...

The problem is no one actively "destroyed" the empire. The barbarian invaders who did arrive in the empire did not actively tried to eradicate Roman culture. Many of the new ethnic groups that settled within the provinces of the empire were only created as a result of their experience mov...

Re: Rome: City + Empire contains wonderful objects but elides the bloody cost of imperialism

I've really never gotten the Roman love thing a lot of people have going on, they destroyed themselves through incompetence in the end or else were always exaggerated in capability, don't view their conquests through a modern lens either because that's totally pointless and self deceptive. I've long...

Re: Growing discontent on EA's mishandling of Star Wars license

When battlefront 2 was at the peak of the loot box controversy it was on the international news media..... that's special for a video game. But a couple of big things are working together here. For one thing reality is all the games EA cancelled were one's that didn't originally start as Star Wars g...

Re: Orbital bombardments, planetary defenses, Death Stars, etc.

IIRC there's some kind of overhead crane in Star Destroyer bays. Would almost be a necessity anyway. I don't see any reason why they couldn't have simply picked up a SPHA-T with that and held it against the roof of the landing bay to give it a better, though still somewhat limited, field of fire. R...

I would say the manga is actually superior to the first Full Metal Alchemist series (the second series, Brotherhood, follows the manga better). The first series was specifically told it had to be different, because they wanted to make a series that had an ending, and the manga at that point was yea...

LOl, they did the dumbest thing they possibly could have. I'm not surprised, I saw the writing on the wall with this game a long time ago and stopped playing. I basically expect another movie to be not very good and not do very good even with the original cast, a lot of time has passed. I don't think I'm alone on feeling like the original success was very much a product of it's time, with for example the silly but not actually out of place lab equipment h...

It wouldn't be the first time something that started off as a "field expedient" became popular because it worked. With this contraption I'm guessing it's not easy to aim except at targets that are so big, close or slow-moving that it's hard to miss them. My biggest question is how is it e...

The promised event was impossible at the price point being offered. It was a scam end to end, though maybe more of a scam then the scam artist behind it intended. It just ended up extra bad because of bad timing, not only did it not have enough time to ever have gotten organized but another major ev...

That's good question. During 18th and 19th century balloons were used for observation so there would even be a practical application. A balloon would be more useful than glider. If we go by history of ballooning in 18th and 19th century much safer too. Importantly you can carry out many unmanned te...
