Re: World of Warships
Isn't this a very strange paradigm though? This looks like the kind of setup which would encourage matchmaking which puts T6-T9 all together in the same clump to kinda simulate actual fleets, but that does not appear to be the case.

Re: World of Warships
It's an achievement to be sure. But it seems like the fun of playing is caught up in a lot of other factors. Personally I would also really like if there were better indicators (colors on the hull waterline) or bigger nation flags to help me visually distinguish the different ships from each other. ...

Re: World of Warships
If the top of the tier is less fun than the lower ones (to discourage over-play) then why gimp the economy so badly? It seems like they're making a few strange choices here. I can either keep playing a ship I enjoy, without advancing, or advance and play ships I don't enjoy. But without advancing, w...

Re: World of Warships
That sounds pretty miserable. I was trying to stay entirely on the US line for all my vessels (expecting to see some splits that would benefit such an action) but knowing that my BB's are gonna be trash, my DD's basically obsolete at the level I already have them, and essentially topped out on cruis...

Re: World of Warships
So what are, in reality, the ships with the greatest longevity? Aside from collecting XP on an Elite T5 for fun that is. Presumably the carriers, battleships and cruisers are all good, but it seems like BB's suffer a bit from economy. Do the T10 cruisers end up being good?

Re: World of Warships
Interesting. I'm just in a rush to get up to the tier where you finally become the kind of asset you're supposed to have been. Battleships advance pretty slow, so the grind is even more painful, but the cruisers are a lot of fun. If destroyers weren't obsolete past T5 then those would be my favorite...

Re: World of Warships
I'm clawing my way up to the Cleveland despite every mission being a loss unless I carry the whole thing myself. I either lose or get top rank in this thing, with zero fiddling around in the center. I really like the Omaha but I'm finding the matchups post-fix to be really unfavorable for some reaso...

Re: World of Warships
What about the higher tier destroyers makes them so awful? I assume they become too flimsy to the rate of fire that cruisers put out, which is somewhat the case even at a lower tier, but may be more pronounced later on when their torpedo effectiveness is dropped versus the cannonades of enemy vessel...

Re: World of Warships
I like the low tier DD's and was really sad when people say the higher tier ones are bad, but since I'm still in just a Clemson as well it still feels like a lot of fun. People say the US torpedoes are terrible but they're wrong--they're shorter range, but they're fast and they can fight around corn...

Re: Has anyone here played Fate Core(tabletop RPG)?
Fate is a good system, and rather flexible. There are many, many games that run modified versions of Fate to good effect. There are limits to what it is good at, but that holds for any game system. These RPG cores boil down to as elegant a selection of dice and rules as you can get which (when run t...

Re: A morality experiment: Actions versus motivations
I seem to have cast the only vote. I voted "other" because I think it's a mixed bag situation. Such a person is "moral" but not good. This person is acting good only to the level of the moral standards of the time, as per the thought experiment their motivations are selfish and t...

Re: World of Warships
I think the easiest solution to this entire problem is to remake the tech tree. Splitting cruisers into fast and heavy cruisers is a good start, as is treating the Dreadnaught as more of a "parallel" development that allows one an alternative to the same-tier of cruiser but not an entirely...

Re: World of Warships
Speaking of Captains, what are the preferred ability layouts for the different kinds of ships? I've got a basic understanding of what is better than what, but I'm not sure what the consensus is. Some of the abilities seem notably weaker with low end ships, and with ships that lack a lot of special a...

Re: World of Warships
To be fair, I have on numerous occasions one-shot a carrier from a huge distance in my tier 10 BB, A carrier who never saw me or had any chance of recourse. That must be satisfying. Was this like a T8 carrier? I'd be surprised if even a T10 Battleship could blow through a carrier from beyond detect...

Re: World of Warships
If it was only an issue with two coordinated players then yeah, it'd be a stupid criticism. But it doesn't even take any serious degree of precision, and it doesn't require a great deal of forethought. I would certainly contend that firing torpedoes from a dancing torpedo bomber squadron is infinite...

Re: World of Warships
At the moment, the nature of planes as inertialess objects is most troubling for their balance because they can perform attacks that basically shouldn't be possible. I can say from experience that the slow moving torpedoes (34 knots on US) make the inertialess "moth-like" turning radius e...

Re: World of Warships
Update on the Carrier State as I seem to be the only carrier player ATM. I think it was just bad RNG, as I've wiped the enemy repeatedly upon further tests in CoOp and validated this in my normal matches vs human pilots as well. The big key for this is needing to change targets to dogfight, as fight...

Re: World of Warships
Playing a Carrier at the moment, and boy is the low level carrier play confusing. I do not understand is the mechanics of air to air combat. My pilots usually get wiped out whenever they come into contact with the enemy fighters, despite being upgraded with appropriate captain skills and even the 12...

Re: World of Warships
ThirtyTonsOfDerp here. The grind is annoying when it means you get stuck between decent ships and have to grind up an admitted garbage ship just for the privilege of not playing it anymore. If you are in a "downgrade" vessel during an opposed "upgrade" tier it can feel like scrat...

Re: World of Warships
It's just frustrating to have so little one can do about it, and the teamwork is nearly zilch because there's no real benefit to shooting down an air wing because the reward for killing planes is so low. One is better off (in a game with crippling economy already) to just ignore them and let the bat...

Re: World of Warships
It's very true that a Battleship is basically helpless against a carrier, and not even in the Rock Paper Scissors way, but in the "you will get deleted from the match" sort of way that only torpedoes seem to do. Now, I'm not really surprised, as that's kinda the way it was back in history ...

Re: Atlantic piece on college word police and Trump's popula

There are clearly some especially stubborn ideas about social ordering and power distribution between the entirely ...

Re: Atlantic piece on college word police and Trump's popula
That's not actually begging the question about god and other forms of equality. The copy-paste first example of question begging is: "If such actions were not illegal, then they would not be prohibited by the law." What is begging the question is the assertions that differences exist betwe...

Re: Atlantic piece on college word police and Trump's popula
I honestly don't see how getting someone disinvited or relieving someone of their position because of their support for something really equates a new low. On the face it may seem that way, but these are organizations that are responding to pressure in one way rather than another way. Either the pro...

Re: World of Warships
Oh, I thought it was one that let me lock turrets in a position (like straight rear) while turning the other ones. IN OTHER NEWS, the Wyoming threw me a bone in the form of a good match where I was at the top of my team's technology class. There was one of me on the enemy team along with some South ...
