Re: Starcraft vs Halo

Probably not much use, but the battlecruiser Hephaestus from the Starcraft #0 comic that came with the SC2 Collector's Edition (same design as the regular Terran battlecruisers BTW) had a regular crew of 236. It was overrun from inside by zerg, crashed into Tarsonis' atmosphere and was destroyed as ...

Re: How destructive is this?

If your wanting to throw FTL weapons about, you have access to anti-matter in decent amounts, use AM instead, far simpler. For instance case an AM payload in a magnetic containemt field insidce a railgun round, fire the railgun at 'techno-babble but still sane C' and wait for the kabooom. I'm assum...

Re: Any decent use for space-capable organic technology?

hmmmmm, an obvious use no one has really expanded on yet is using the technology to evolve humanity. Why not give us wings? Or gills and turn us into merpeople? Certainly this is going to be one of the first applications that occur to certain people. The furries will be happy I guess :P . I'd imagi...

Re: Tech Analysis: The Lensman Series

That would depend heavily on whether they were running at total war production. Bennett was fully mobilized on a scale closely comparable to WWII-era America; that effort could not have been sustained indefinitely. And if it wasn't, then eventually the shipyard infrastructure would get old and have...

Re: Battle of Macragge...otherverse style

Well, I think we've established that Star Wars universe is far superior in space to 40k in comparison threads (speed and firepower), and probably equalish on the ground. I thought they were fairly close in terms of firepower. Anyway... 40k Mars? Imperium wins another costly victory. The Inquisition...

Meanwhile, I'm not sure if there's anywhere we can get reliable information on how durable AT-AT armor is versus high velocity kinetic penetrators. Given how top-heavy AT-ATs are, penetrating their armour may not be necessary :) . Knocking the damn things over would render them useless. Connor prob...

Re: How destructive is this?

Actually, the idea I got is attaching a FTL engine (how does Star Trek warp engines work?) to an object, and then arming ships, or even fighters with these FTL torpedoes. And as for where this is gonna get used on, how would sheilds from the various sci-fi universes fare against such a contraption?...

My impression from the series is that the Arisian breeding program is a distinct yet connected part of the Lensman projects. Not quite. It's noted, I think in TP, that in spite of Gharlane's attempts on Tellus et al to knock down each budding civilisation, the quality of peoples' minds was improvin...

Re: SDN Worlds 4 Military Expansion Listing - 3400

The War Office & Admiralty share about 5% of the Empire's GDP. Of this the Royal Interstellar Navy usually gets ~75% for new construction and such (£2400 total, £1800 for the RIN), with the rest being spent on maintaining the existing forces, R&D, etc etc etc. IOW, during peacetime the Altacar Empir...

This makes Goauld staff weapons so wierd as even hand-held yields (mere Kilojoules) show a small kinetic component (Making people fall backwards, lobbing of heads and make then fall back a handful meters, and such) This may be the result of some of the target being vaporised and then expanding rapi...

Re: SF-warship plausibility question. (Some Phlebotinum)

FTL sensors would require said FTL magic to interact with physical matter. That opens a huge can of worms as to how does tachyons or whatever effect normal matter. Just FTL comms are simpler. You can handwave away FTL comms by doing what stargate does. The stargate allows radio communications throu...

Sorry, I thought you were on about FTL sensors detecting things in normal space. They should exist given that you have FTL comms, so you should be able to take out anything launched at significant fractions of c, because you can actually see where it is.

If you introduce magic armor (besides reactive one) to deal with fast rocks, The rocks aren't moving. Its the ships that are (hence, the switching to a % PD to remove them from the path). A few things that immediately come to mind: 1. That armour looks like it's going to be a supply issue, especially on extended campaigns,...
