Re: William Barr lets Roger Stone off easy, four prosecutors resign in protest.

Presumably the logic is along the lines of making a pardon "easier". Either he ends up pardoning someone with a very short sentence, or he is reversing the action of a rogue judge who gave a much longer sentence than that recommended by the DoJ.

Re: The Wuhan coronavirus

I wouldn't read too much in to the graph of total reported cases. Even if you get past the detection and reporting issues, the overall epidemic is made up of a bunch of smaller localised outbreaks (individual outbreaks initially growing exponentially) that were all started at different times. The sh...

Re: The Impeachment of Donald Trump.

Assuming not: Are you saying that if the republicans agree internally that they will never vote to prosecute one of their own for crimes they have (verifiably) committed then the democrats must not prosecute them? Has it ever occurred to you that maybe the Democrats are the real Republicans? If so,...

Re: The Impeachment of Donald Trump.

It makes no sense! The vote is only on party lines because despite ample evidence that these crimes were committed, and no legal defence offered, the republicans refuse to vote to impeach (and some have even stated that they would not do so under any circumstances). Gabbard even states that she bel...

Re: The Impeachment of Donald Trump.

Man, thanks Timothy. That makes perfect sense in context. Senators definitely shouldn't vote for impeachment if they think that opinions on the subject correspond to party lines and that the people pushing it believe the president is a criminal and that leaving him in office is a threat to the coun...

Re: Something big

I agree the Interdictor looks very cool. Are the bulges significantly bigger than other depictions? Something about the angle its at makes it seem to me that the forward port bulge is closer to the centreline than the starboard one. I think its something about the precise viewing angle that is makin...

Re: Trump rules hospital must provide price transparency

is it easier to increase the fine then get a entire bill added? I mean, if they have made specific provisions in the bill that they deliberately won't fine multiple infractions more harshly than a single infraction, and the fine amount is absurdly low, that should tell you their appetite to increas...

Re: Future of the NHS

The UK already has loads of private healthcare and private health insurance alongside the NHS. Private treatment has short/no wait times, comparable costs to other countries. I will note that the majority of private healthcare doctors have had their training entirely paid for by the NHS, greatly sub...

Re: The Youtubers Union teams up with IG Metall, makes demands and legal threats against Google/Youtube

The shorter version was demonetised. The longer version, despite containing 100% of the content which was in the shorter version and 20 minutes more content besides, was not. While, of course, it is not quite this simple, you can make something objectionable by leaving things out. To reduce it to a...

Re: Bill Gates Gave Away The Entire Amount of His Net Worth As of The Giving Pledge and Is Still Worth Double

I get that they, meaning Gates personally and the Foundation, are legitimately trying to give everything away. But the criticism of their strategy is valid because the Foundation isn’t giving money away fast enough to lose money over time and Gates himself isn’t giving his money to the foundation f...

Re: Bill Gates Gave Away The Entire Amount of His Net Worth As of The Giving Pledge and Is Still Worth Double

If you promise to give away X dollars, then stop giving away money at X/2 dollars, because the multiplier effect of your donation is "only" ten or whatever, you're not actually committed to giving away X dollars. That in no way resembles what is happening. The foundation has not stopped giving away...

(Partially) Gates funded researcher here, so I have some familiarity with this topic. The foundation tries to fund things that will be transformational advances, rather than infrastructure. The thinking is that infrastructure and ongoing maintenence costs as well as dealing with known problems with ...

Re: Will Google's stadia kill the game console?

That didn't exist when I quoted :) I think in the Microsoft case, this assumption is reasonable. Microsoft has enough data centers that the majority of the target audience is close enough to a data center, probably a few hundred km radius. In that case, the majority of lag would come from sources o...

I haven't played in over a year (when the promised carrier rework was already a running joke due to how delayed it was...), but I'm not surprised they screwed it up as hard as they did given this is the same company that reworked WoT artillery. When faced with the situation that WoT artillery is a b...

If they rebalanced the game in Belgium to have better gameplay, that would be a very blatant admission that they deliberately made the game miserable to play in order to sell loot boxes. Additionally, they would be admitting they knew a specific different balance would actually be more fun to play i...

Re: Students increasingly turn to prostitution to pay for university, risk punishment from universities.

The reason this is happening is that a few years ago, because the government was so strapped for cash during the financial crisis the cap on tuition fees was raised from £3,000 a year to £9,000. Most people cannot afford a tripling of fees, and this is the result. This isn't really the situation th...

Diablo 1 has more facilities to create storylines and player interactions than FO76, because Diablo 1 had a town to act as a hub. In FO76 there is jus...

I'm saying that Wohl/Surefire is on the right and attempted to discredit Avenatti and Mueller. I think that Steel is saying that both attacks were at...
