Re: Rise of Skywalkers reviews (Spoilers in this thread)

The astonishing insistence on putting half the action in extremely dark spaces is a great example of where Abrams style doesn't work that well. The saber fights on Exogol were made much worse by it.

Re: Rise of Skywalkers reviews (Spoilers in this thread)

The best way I've found to describe RoS is basically as TFA but without that initial excitement of Star Wars Is Back! Same hollow retread but spectacular visuals.

Re: Rise of Skywalkers reviews (Spoilers in this thread)

Now that would have been a moment on par with if they'd just smash cut to 'The End' with the first blaster bolt turning Luke into chunky salsa in TLJ. It's also completely dumb why they didn't just use the fighters to blow up the antenna on the Stardestroyer. I think mostly they just wanted an excu...

Re: Rise of Skywalkers reviews (Spoilers in this thread)

Having raised it, and seperate to Formless's inane blathering about the perils of alcohol, the cavalry charge is a really good example of why I've called it a dumb but fun movie that's good to watch drunk. As a moment, it's really fun, but it's kind of, well, dumb as fuck even with the gimmick of t...

Re: Rise of Skywalkers reviews (Spoilers in this thread)

Do you really want me to answer that question? Because arguments could be made for any one of those things... in a car dominated world . Since the basis for your 'don't say to drink at the movies' argument is in no small part down to 'people might drunk drive'? Yes. Yes I do. All those situations c...

Re: Rise of Skywalkers reviews (Spoilers in this thread)

It's pretty much comic book rules. No one is actually dead until you see a corpse, and not even then!

Except Han. Han's dead. For now.

Re: Rise of Skywalkers reviews (Spoilers in this thread)

Between Chewie and C-3PO there were entirely too many meaningless character 'deaths'. The little memory guy got a good reaction from the kids a couple of rows back, though, which was nice (though his second appearance was gratuitous), and when they killed off Chewie they basically screamed 'no!' so ...

Re: Rise of Skywalkers reviews (Spoilers in this thread)

I take it then you also oppose the existence of pubs, bars, wine bars, nightclubs, clubs, restaurants with a liquor license, and indeed, the serving of alcohol in any area not a private domicile? Re: Rise of Skywalkers reviews (Spoilers in this thread)

The dagger is an especially good example of the above. It couldn't just be the key to unlocking Rey's identity, it also had to be a magic macguffin of video game level design 101 grade architecture.

Re: Rise of Skywalkers reviews (Spoilers in this thread)

My local movie theater serves alcohol. Although it doesn't really need to since it's a short walking distance from at least four different bars. Weed is also fully legal in my state. Why is this even an argument? Yeah, quite a few do these days. It's a standard part of any of the 'gold class' cinem...

Re: Rise of Skywalkers reviews (Spoilers in this thread)

It's called a taxi, uber, or friend who doesn't drink, fuckhead. It's not my fault you can't imagine how you might get from a midnight screening to your house without driving. And do you know how many people don't do that, fucktard? The fact that options exist for getting home drunk doesn't make pu...

Re: Rise of Skywalkers reviews (Spoilers in this thread)

Has anyone pointed out all the similarities between this and Dark Empire yet? Exogol is essentially Byss, for example. Yeah, a few folk. This was a pretty big love letter to a good chunk of the better EU material, but I wonder how much of that was due to them scrambling to replace Snoke with limite...

Re: Rise of Skywalkers reviews (Spoilers in this thread)

Would you prefer if I mocked you mercilessly for encouraging people to drink and drive late at night when many of us are going to be watching the film? Because I can think of any number of reasons that your constant repetition of the same advice is fucking asinine. Any movie you have to watch while...

Yep. Until we have an orbital fuel depot just adding fuel to the launch without significant redesign of the launch vehicle is a logistical nightmare.

Re: Rise of Skywalkers reviews (Spoilers in this thread)

I liked a lot of what TLJ tried to do and I still enjoyed ROS. The secret, as I keep saying, is to drink heavily during it. No, the secret is to realize some of us can't drink heavily because of health issues, you dumb repetitive twat. If this isn't meant as joke, its an indictment of the film. If ...

Re: Rise of Skywalkers reviews (Spoilers in this thread)

So, no spoilers: For someone who actually liked TLJ and doesn't enjoy rehashes of the OT or endless pandering to the fandom, on a scale of one to ten, how big a steaming sack of shit is this movie? I'm trying to decide if its worth putting myself through watching it. It's 'take a bottle of whiskey ...

The thing is Luke was TOO jaded. In Knightfall Mark Hamill plays a character named Talus.
Why? He seemed quite reasonably cynical to me, given what took place and happened to his literal life's work.

Luke's turn in TLJ was a satisfying conclusion to the jedi arc, anyway, fan whinging aside. The moment with the lightsaber trying to take a shot back at it was just ridiculous.
