Re: Jesus Christ, I had no idea just how much of a sick fuck Ayn Rand was (this should probably have a trigger warning).

“It is not the crime alone that has raised the fury of public hatred. It is the case of a daring challenge to society. … It is the amazing picture of a man with no regard whatever for all that society holds sacred, with a consciousness all his own.” Re the bit I have bolded: it wasn't a daring chal...

Who is Batman? My theory is that he is the Mountain. Obviously a different development of the original character is needed for this to be so.

Re: SUPERTHREAD: 2020 United States Elections

Many nations will have thousands die from Covid-19, but the USA will have hundreds of thousands, even millions die from it. Two major factors are the iniquity mentioned in the OP article and the "leadership" of Trump. American historians in the future will not simply label this the Covid-19 pandemic...

Re: Doctor who s12 episode 9 and 10 [spoilers]

A big problem I have with the final two episodes is that the cybermen now have an agenda like the daleks of extermination whereas before they were about converting humans into cybermen. This episode did answer the questions about who Brendan and Ruth are/were (even if this is not so satisfactory) - ...

Re: Alberta oil company distributes stickers depicting Greta Thunberg (a minor) being sexually assaulted.

I would think that even if a person depicted was fully adult (18+ or 21+), if without their consent they were depicted being sexually assaulted or indeed subject to any other illegal act, that a sticker doing so would be illegal.

Re: Doctor Who s12e07 can you hear me

For me most of the episode was strong, as it seemed like a normal Doctor Who episode from older days. I thought the defeating of the gods was a bit too easy, but still overall a very good episode.

Best episode of the current season so far. Gat and Lee are/were possibly agents of the CIA (Celestial Intervention Agency).

Re: The Impeachment of Donald Trump.

I saw Trump talking about good and bad presidents and he of course claims he is a good president.
I also saw that his impeachment defense team will include Ken Starr and Alan Dershowitz, both notorious. Starr of course was the one who with much vigor went after President Clinton over nothing.

Re: Doctor who s12e03 Orphan 55 - SPOILERS

The message at the end was delivered in a heavy handed way by having the Doctor give a direct almost fourth wall breaking speech. It would have been better more subtly delivered, for example by having the companions and the Doctor have a discussion, where they ask her questions, and she could say ho...

Better than the first part, I thought. I had a good laugh at the signs in the plane — anyone else remember a very similar gag being used in Harry Harrison's Technicolor ® Time Machine ? Another Ominous Name from Gallifrey's Past in the "Timeless Child"; this sounds familiar, was it one of the Weapo...

Doctor Who Season Twelve

I was curious as to if there would be a Dr Who Christmas special this year. So I checked and as expected there isn't. However a week later on New Year's Day January 1st 2020, the new season starts, going till March.
Here is a trailer of the NYD episode:

Movies are not responsible for the attitudes and behaviour of incels or other such idiots.
The critic in my "local" (state) Sunday newspaper gave it five stars out of five (not that it is relevant but this critic is female).

Re: Brexit and General UK politics thread

Referendums are glorified opinion polls now? Is what is an isn't decidable by simple majority dependent on how it aligns with your worldview, because it doesn't get any more "democratic" than that. There have been years for the democratically elected MPs in Westminster to deal with this by some oth...

Re: Brexit and General UK politics thread

Besides, we're ultimately in the current mess because of a decision we made in a free and (mostly) fair referendum run by a democratically elected government. The fairness of it can be debated, although I should note that the referendum was always non-binding. I would question whether "democracy" r...

This shows you how strange Queensland is. She is a Labor Party premier and the Labor Party unlike the federal Coalition government has acknowledged climate change and the need for action on it. Of course, Queensland has the Adani situation muddling things with the recent Federal election having Cliv...

I have just gone to the actual video of 'The Project' episode (23rd June). The question is given at the 28 minute mark. Prior to that the guy is talking about how persecuted Christians are in Australia (LOL). https://10play.com.au/theproject/episodes/2019/the-sunday-project-23-jun-2019/tpv190623qkwxz

So why can’t we see it? The idea of the two powerful mysterious figures manipulating the universe over a games board is familiar from an old SF story (or two). Is your use of the term Firstborn a call out to the aliens in the Clarke/Baxter trilogy? Well the good news is that the Covenant now has to withdraw, and this will ...
