Re: Avengers: Infinity War (massive spoilers!)

First of all, I never said that it was "...all about sexism..."- I said that sexism was a factor. I apologise. I am somewhat hypersensitive to that angle of complaint and I may have read too much into your point. Sorry. Secondly, saying "this one guy didn't get his own film, therefor...

Re: Avengers: Infinity War (massive spoilers!)

Maybe, but they don't give every powered hero their own movie either. Hulk hasn't had one in a long time, Falcon and War Machine (admittedly more secondary characters) haven't, Vision hasn't despite being a full Avenger, nor has Scarlett Witch. On the flip side, Tony has no powers at all except the...

Re: Avengers: Infinity War (massive spoilers!)

There was a great window when I think that'd have been super-popular but at the time, well, the Marvel execs were a bit sexist on the issue. I'd say it's more likely they simply don't have faith in a film based around non powered characters. It's not like Hawkeye has his own movie (or even made it ...

Re: Avengers: Infinity War (massive spoilers!)

How did Thor even know he had to teleport to Wakanda in the first place ? My personal headcanon is that Thor's acquisition of the Bifrost powers includes some version of Heimdal's sight. He must after all have some way to aim or direct it, and in this case to do so despite Wakanda's hidden nature. ...

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi release thread (spoilers)

Worse, we're both forgetting that if Leia actually thought it was a possibility that Rey's beacon had been captured - the first step would be simply checking her beacon to see if Rey's signal has either a. shifted from Ach'To or b. never arrived at Ach'To. See I got the impression they weren't able...

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi release thread (spoilers)

So your basis for assuming they exist somewhere other than at D'Qar is substantially based on the existence of assets assets that were - notwithstanding how poorly they were used - clearly and unequivocally all present at D'Qar? Here's what I said: No, we're allowing for Leia to consider the possib...

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi release thread (spoilers)

If the First Order had interdictors, they'd be at D'Qar. Based on what? Their stunning military tactical acumen of shooting the base first? Of not jumping fighters in with them? Of having unshielded point defense? Of having several Resurgents just sit back and watch a seven stories tall bomber crui...

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi release thread (spoilers)

We're inventing interdictors in the movie now? No, we're allowing for Leia to consider the possibility that, along with all the other designs they duplicated, the FO also duplicated their own version of the Interdictor. They have part of the map, they know part of the route and they have a lot of c...

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi release thread (spoilers)

That's not really a reasonable assumption. Rey has been gone for a few days, tops, and went to the one location the First Order 100% definitely does not know the position of. There'd be no reason to assume she's been captured. Bullshit. Rey has to go make a trip- in a ship Han said needed to be dit...

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi release thread (spoilers)

The whole tracker thing is painful. Leia is actually wearing a tracking device and hasn't heard from Rey for some time- a reasonable assumption would be that Rey was captured and they got the tracker. Certainly it's more believable than a stunning, revolutionary piece of never before seen tech being...

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi release thread (spoilers)

Hadn't measured them against the Raddus's hanger. The actual built set, if you dig up a pic, is 3, perhaps generously 4 stories tall. There's no way it clears seven. The only mention I can find of the bombers docking is with the Ninka. Mind you, I think this is something not many people would pick ...

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi release thread (spoilers)

I'll have to check that scene once I get the DVD. Let me assure you they're docked. There's even a line of confirmation that the evacuation is complete. See, this all would work fine if the bombers didn't have hyper drives. For what it's worth, they're seven god damn stories tall- they don't fit in...

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi release thread (spoilers)

Perhaps "blockade" wasn't the correct choice of word: They should've been brought to interdict the evacuation (and if the Fulminatrix had opened fire on the fleet first, then probably there wouldn't have been anywhere to evacuate to).. The most stunningly stupid thing here is that the FO ...

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi release thread (spoilers)

It seems to me slightly misleading to say that Poe was "asking on behalf of the entire surviving crew", as it implies (without offering any real evidence for it) that his views reflected those of the whole crew and/or that he was acting with their endorsement. Poe does say, gesturing to t...

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi release thread (spoilers)

My quote comes straight from the movie so unless you can make a case for Holdo either lying or being woefully underinformed on what the Resistance had left (or not) in the way of resources that number stands. Not that I see what your problem with it is-it makes the evacuation problem easier by a fa...

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi release thread (spoilers)

Ahem. '400 of us. On 3 ships. We are the very last of the Resistance' I'm going off the stated numbers in the ICS. 1,139 on the Raddus, 170 on the Anodyne and 23 on the Ninka. And those numbers are listed as 'skeleton crew' assisted by augmentation. 400 people is barely 1/3rd of what you'd need to ...

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi release thread (spoilers)

And its telling that your main arguments for the scene not establishing Holdo as a capable officer are "She's not in uniform" (falling back on criticizing her appearance) and "She's not an OT character). That's bullshit. I never criticised her appearance- suggesting an alternative ma...

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi release thread (spoilers)

It does at least establish that she has a not-obviously-terrible combat record. I disagree. It establishes nothing but her presence at a certain event. Now if she'd some out in uniform, covered in medals or had someone refer to her as 'the hero of X and Y' you'd have a point. But we don't get that....

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi release thread (spoilers)

So at the very least, she has a combat record Poe is familiar with, and not one that would immediately lead him to think "Yeah, she's a fuck up." What it fails to establish though is why Poe should trust her in light of her actions. He's not instantly mutinous, he certainly gives her a ch...

Re: Star Wars & Reactors

Reactors can't be all that from what we see in TLJ. The Raddus for example, looking at the ICS, does not have a reactor but uses liquid fuel. We're also told that Resurgent class star destroyers have two reactors- one dedicated to the additional engines it carries. Presumably there's some reason the...

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi release thread (spoilers)

Holdo is an experienced commander with a record of success, who is making an effort to preserve her personnel at the cost of her ships. I would just like to point out a few things. First, the film gives us no indication Holdo has a record of success, only that she was present at a given battle. I d...

But they can't have stopped military development - that makes no sense. At Jakku, they were still using Rebel ships, the T-70 X-Wing wasn't in service, nor the RZ-2 A-Wing, nevermind the T-85 X-Wing (annihilated at Hosnian Prime) Oh I'm sure they continued developments. The T-85 as you mention is m...

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi release thread (spoilers)

The New Republic didn't dismantle its fleet dude, it simply reduced it in size. They didn't just stop designing ships. We don't actually know how old those ships are. I'm sure I read somewhere they stopped commissioning new ships shortly after the Battle of Jakku. I thought the Raddus was among tho...
