Re: Rogue One (Spoilers)
Is it just me, or did the two ISDs in orbit over Scarif look a little...fake? It may just be the bright sunlight on the hull and the angle, but at certain points they almost appeared to be unpainted white model plastic. As if someone built a model ISD and simply didn't paint the thing. I thought th...

Re: Rogue One (Spoilers)
Just saw the movie this afternoon. I was disappointed and a little confused that the two star destroyers at Scarif didn't seem to put up much of a fight. I was expecting to see one of them fire off a salvo from its main guns and slag one of the smaller rebel ships. Instead, most of the fighting in s...

Dude, being in the same room with other people is awesome. If I was stuck in a room by myself all day I would go crazy.

Re: American Living Wage Calculator
I'd like to know more about how they came up with these numbers. I currently spend about 43% of what that site considers a "livable" after-tax wage for me. If I add their healthcare and transportation costs to my expenses (I consider myself fortunate to not have these expenses), it still o...

Fuzzy, you're assuming a young person with no commitments, able to get a place near where he works, etc. What happens if that person has children? Can't find a cheap nearby rent? Needs some kind of social life for their sanity? What happens if they're late 30's and laid off from their redundant man...

Then save for eight months/semester instead of six. Or get a government loan and pay it back once you get your better than McDonald's job.

How the FUCK are you going to pay for college on that budget? Seriously? You can't . I agree, unless you can get a scholarship or want to go into debt. But that's why I said community college. Here's the fees for my local community college: http://www.ccac.edu/default.aspx?id=137210 It's around $1,...

You still fucked the instant you get sick. Get sick? Get fired, now your job is not in walking distance anymore since you don't HAVE a job. More importantly there's no road up. That's as far as you go since your always meeting needs never ever to put anything away. Sure there is. Follow my advice a...

Re: McDonalds helps it's employees budget! (Irony)
It's entirely possible to get by on a McDonald's budget, as long as you make certain adjustments to your life. Drop the car and rent a room within walking/biking distance from work. Get a cheap prepaid phone plan. Drop the cable/internet. Don't eat at restaurants. Don't have children unless you can ...

Then I accept your point, that there is a psychological difference between living a "poor" lifestyle and actually being poor.fgalkin wrote:Yes. You have health and transportation benefits. You have savings. You're not actually poor. You're just a slumming miser.

Hang on a minute, you are earning 6 figures in your early 20's and you talk about living below the poverty line? So, you're not actually living at the poverty line, you're just slumming. Have a very nice day. -fgalkin I beg to differ. My income doesn't change my lifestyle, my spending does. I'll take the extra body. If I devote my entire first life to working, I'll have more money when I get my second body than if I took the ten million.

Re: Living at the poverty line
Well it's happening now. I am officially living below the line. I moved in with some people on Craigslist and now my monthly budget looks like this: $500 rent/utilities/internet $100 food $100 misc/entertainment That's $700/month total, or $8400/year which puts me significantly below the poverty lin...

Is the cost of living really that much higher in Britain? Here in the US, I've been living without difficulty in a major city on about $65 a week, not including rent. That's significantly less than what is quoted in the article. Granted, I'm a single, healthy, 22-year-old so I'm sure that helps.

Yea, I'm a single 22-year-old with no debt so it was pretty easy to come up with a budget of under $1000 a month. The only problem is finding money for recreation. The way I see it, I can break down my monthly expenses as follows: $500 rent $75 utilities $55 phone + internet $150 food This leaves me...

Living at the poverty line
So it looks like pretty soon I am going to be living at the poverty line. I will be subletting off of someone on Craigslist, have no car, and have only around $200 a month to spend as I please.
