Re: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
The downside of live action. RDJ's retired and stays retired. They could have recast or used Don Cheadle as a Rhodey!Iron Man since it's a multiverse thing but you'd lose the impact. Honestly, I would've loved to see Terrence Howard!Rhodey as Iron Man/War Machine in the Illuminati. Not because it w...

Re: The Mandalorian Discussion Thread (spoilers and such)
Upon reflection, I think what really bugs me about the whole sublight thing is that hey can still tell the same story with the same major actions and character beats (getting "pulled over", crash landing, spiders, etc) without the whole "travel at sublight" nonsense. Have the bud...

Re: The Mandalorian Discussion Thread (spoilers and such)
Do the rifles have some sort of system to assist the user's aim? It looked like they were picking off the smaller spider creatures with very accurate shooting (I think we don't see either of the pilots miss a single shot). Iirc the (legends) visual dictionary said that the scopes on stormtooper bla...

Re: The Expanse Season 4
TBH I never liked the Roci interior set because I feel like it gives the wrong impression of the layout of the ship. the "main" deck with the pilot's station above part of it is laid out and shot in a way that feels morel like a horizontal ship like the Millennium Falcon or Serenity.

Re: The Expanse Season 4
I'm still exceedingly annoyed that the show doesn't seem to make clear that all spacecraft are skycrapers, not belly-landers. Other than Rocinante, they keep showing all the other spacecraft in horizontal on screen when they should be showing them in vertical. Which is actually kind of ironic, beca...

After consideration of the title's history as a slur, the author has changed the name to Pale. The new url is: https://palewebserial.wordpress.com/ New chapters Tuesday and Saturday, with supplemental material (maps, illustrations, notes) on Thursdays. Pale is the story of three young witches. Re: So what did I miss in the last JESUS CHRIST SEVEN YEARS
Possibly still a bunch of lurkers like myself haunting the threads. Did someone say lurkers :o Looking back, it appears I made about half as many posts in the last 7 years as I did in the ~10 years before that, for a total just under 300 in 17 years. If there's an official (or unofficial) discord s...

Re: Is Holdo a good leader?
Again, people are deserting. That's a classic sign of panic. That may be what Holdo and company thought Rose and Finn were doing with the shuttle they took, and just shrugged their shoulders that morale was so bad. Fuck off, now you're just making shit up because you either know you have no point, ...

Re: Is Holdo a good leader?
DJ didn't give the First Order any technical details though. For all we know, he just said, "Check for cloaked ships.", and that was it. Doesn't sound like something really involved, and that any partially competent First Order officer could ask for if they were curious about the lack of ...

Re: Is Holdo a good leader?
You forget the same major factor that Holdo did. A cursory check for cloaked ships revealed the stealthed transports. That the First Order was so stupid that it took a traitor like DJ to make them do so says a lot about the First Order, but also about the plan itself. It's not just a "cursory ...

Re: Is Holdo a good leader?
Holdo was easily the best leader the Resistance had. She inherited a shit situation, made worse by incompetence on both sides and all around bad writing, but still managed to come up with a better outcome than any of the others would've. I don't think the fact that Poe almost single handedly gigafuc...

Re: Why is the Resistance so pitiful?
Maybe Wedge Antilles is leading a holdout fleet somewhere :) Would be cool. But I seem to recall that Wedge's actor refused point black to return back when they filmed TFA. IIRC the old guy that gives Poe the map at the beginning of TFA was originally supposed to be Wedge. Which makes everything ab...

Re: EP 9 teaser trailer
And as long as we're talking about it, TLJ was terrible in it's treatment of characters played by minorities. The 4 characters played by PoC (DJ, Finn, Rose, and Poe) Poe(‘s actor) wasn’t white? Óscar Isaac Hernández Estrada was born in Guatemala to a Guatemalan mother and a Cuban father. We can sp...

Re: EP 9 teaser trailer
Opinions may vary. I liked most of the characters. You could probably make the case that the plot undermined itself, because TLJ is ambiguous about a lot of stuff and relies on misdirection, but it would help to know what exactly you are referring to. The entire movie is saying that you don't have ...

Re: EP 9 teaser trailer
Not to get in the middle of y'all's slap fight, but there are plenty of reasons to hate TLJ that have nothing to do with being a misogynist or a toxic OT fanboy. I mean, the problems with TLJ were not that it took risks or moved in a different direction or had different themes. The writing was not g...

Re: EP 9 teaser trailer
Some reactions as I watched the trailer: Of course another desert planet. Does Rey not own a change of clothes? Is that Rey's new lightsaber to replace Anakin/Luke's? Lol nope, she just fixed the old one. Also, they had to show us the gun Han gave her in TFA. Callbacks! What if Tie Interceptor, but ...

Nonetheless, there were moments where he provided a last bulwark against the wholesale insanity engulfing the Republican Party, and that is now gone. Did he actually do anything to serve as this bulwark? I know he said some of the right things from time to time, but when it came time to vote, he pr...

I'm going to ask for more detailed specifics and sources, particularly on the claims that McCain appeared alongside Nazis and supported Jihadi groups in Syria. This one has a pretty good summary. Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi release thread (spoilers)
Can we get some canon confirmation that the transports don't have hyperdrive? All I see in this thread is TRR saying that they apparently don't. Wookipedia doesn't say anything one way or the other, and it frankly makes no sense. Other than some snubfighters where mass is at a premium, I can't think...

Re: Maximum range of turbolasers (Last Jedi spoilers)
I am not sure why people are putting forward mass drivers as an explanation of why the Supremacy's fire arcs. A mass driver in a vacuum goes in a straight line too. Would it appear so if all ships are accelerating? In space, a ship would hold its velocity and could deactivate its engines. It needs ...

Re: Maximum range of turbolasers (Last Jedi spoilers)
That seems to be a general trait of the Disney canon- they treated ISDs in a similar manner in Rebels. They seem to be playing up SDs' role as carriers, and downplaying their role as ship-to-ship combatants. The Sequel Trilogy (and by extension the disney canon as a whole) seems to be built on brai...
