Re: Star Trek Beyond *SPOILERS*
if you meant "get reprimanded" by "court martial", since for the crew a court martial might end up with commendation for exellent performance against a clearly superior foe, a signifigant portion of crew of the Enterprise (NCC-1701) survived even though the opposition was clearl...

Re: Star Trek Beyond *SPOILERS*
Why is everyone saying the Enterprise A is a carbon copy of the 1701? She is clearly a refit design as she is more robust looking in both the nacelles and in the engineering section. http://memory-beta.wikia.com/wiki/USS_Enterprise_(alternate_reality_NCC-1701-A) Also I'm quoting from Memory Alpha h...

Re: George Kirk to return to kelvinverse in film 4
I'm with Sheppard on this one. Ripping "City on the Edge of Forever" sounds like an idea that makes sense, but you do not fuck with Harlan Ellison. There is a reason its only appearance post-City was in TAS. Harlan will lose his shit demanding a cut if it is used for a multi-million dollar...

Re: Star Trek: Discorvery
Just a note about the Discovery's registry - NCC-1031 - it is likely a homage to the Space Shuttle Discovery which was designated OV-103 by NASA.

Re: Star Trek Beyond *SPOILERS*
I enjoyed it a lot - probably the best of the Kelvin-verse films. Idris Elba was a bit under-utilized in my book, but the Enterprise crew really all had moments to shine. They felt like a unit that reminded me of the best TOS movies. I did feel a bit off-putting to see the Enterprise wrecked - again...

Re: Ep7 Reviews (Spoilers)
So, was this contrived as fuck? Yes. From the BB-8, Finn and Rey all intersecting at the same point - to Han finding the Falcon - Poe randomly making it back to the Rebellion and R2-D2 just happening to boot up by the end - that has got to be my biggest criticism of the film. Was it entertaining? Ye...

Re: How long would it take to get to the moon in an "emergen
A lot of stuff was referenced to using US hardware, and I did see a couple posts referencing the Soyuz, which would probably be in the best position since it was targeted for use around the Moon. Indeed, Soyuz spacecraft (minus the orbital module) were launched unmanned on circum-lunar flights to va...

Re: Court Martial over the loss of Enterprise-D
To be fair, the writers were backed into a corner by Rick Berman, who told them "The Enterprise has to have a space battle that causes enough damage that the stardrive blows up and sends the saucer crashing onto the planet below. Because of our budget however, you can only have one enemy stars...

Re: Approximate Human Population in Star Trek
And there are quite a number of settled worlds with populations in the single-digit billions (Nomad massacres one), although they may be Federation member races other than humans. Not due to any great love of the show, but your comment got me looking at Memory Alpha - apparently ENT established the...

Re: replace Voyager with enterprise
The thing that confuses me the most is, why were most of the civilians in the stardrive section requiring evacuation? Or did they just decide to show people running around the corridors confused and scared? Where were these people when red alert was sounded? It's something that bugs me because eith...

Re: replace Voyager with enterprise
Generations: E-D destroyed (stardrive section at least) due to, what, 3 torpedo hits to the unshielded stardrive section hull plus dirsuptor hits to the nacelles. Jumping back on this discussion a bit, but the E-D took quite a few hits during the battle. Four hits are clearly taken to the stardrive...

Re: Star Wars VII - Trailer Discussion
Bearing this in mind, does anybody have a damn clue how much of that rebel squad on the moon of Endor actually survived? Because...character shields being character shields. It really was kind of a last ditch con that got them into that base, and there wasn't anybody but the main characters and ewo...

Re: Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens
Hmmm Falcon looks cool as well as the X-Wings doing low water flying... not sure about them using old original Tie fighters? Surely there would be none left after this long considering they were phasing them out at Endor already! Considering just how many of the bloody things the Empire must have c...

Re: Has the Enterprise in the films ever won a straight-up f
As I said, the Epsilon station told us the Imperial Klingon Cruiser Amar was "continuing her attack." But we didn't see evidence of that on the split-screen you mentioned, so it is logical to assume we also wouldn't see incoming fire from V'Ger on the same monitor. That was in either the ...

Re: Has the Enterprise in the films ever won a straight-up f
TMP: The Ent survived a direct hit from V'Ger, the same thing that 1 shot three klingon cruisers and an entire space station. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbG3N51MEjM The Klingon ships, nor Epsilon IX were not "1-shoted". At 2:22 the Klingons realize their torpedoes did jack shit and ta...

Re: STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS Is A Crypto-Truther Conspiracy M
I doubt the message was that layered. It was a pretty straight "you cannot trade liberty for security!" plot - one that has been done in Star Trek (with a gonzo Starfleet officer behind it), and other mediums before. Kirk even gives a stock speech to that effect at the end. I'm sorry, I ju...

Re: Star trek and democracy
Highest we got was James T. Kirk who was an Admiral of a grade I can't remember right now before getting reduced to captain and barely avoiding getting dishonorably discharged. In TOS T'Pau (who apparently carries some political weight) intervened to basically get Kirk off the hook for defying orde...

Re: The Best of Trek- Deep Space Nine
I also like how they admitted that the difference between the smooth-forehead Klingons and modern Klingons is not simply a matter of makeup budget. Yeah, but I wish that they just left what happened with the Klingons there, and stayed with "we don't talk about it" instead of feeling the n...

Re: Why was Picard given the Enterprise?
Keep in mind, chronologically, the Stargazer took place nine years before TNG. He commanded the Stargazer for over twenty years (maybe we can assume with some desk assignments in between while the ship if the ship was ever under refit), and while the ship was not top-of-the-line, it seems Picard had...

Re: Disney to make four Netfllix Marvel series
I remember Bendis talking about how they're going to have to do something about the whole crime-riddled "Hell's Kitchen" thing - apparently that neighbourhood is actually pretty nice these days. It's not as easy these days to do a "gritty crime" story, with NY as the backdrop in...

1) He was playing more the calm collected veteran in an occupation that has traditionally been very male dominated and thus it is well within the context of reality that this movie is leaning on that his role would be more likely to be filled by a man than a woman (Note: this does not exactly excus...

Yeah, not much of a surprise. I actually had a minor hope they were over this, because the Trek '09 DVD had a fair amount of bonus stuff. I guess that was the anomaly.

Re: Federation Military Topics (Reboot, Spoilers)
I was rather thinking along the lines of a few minutes as opposed to the 10 seconds it takes her to get to the bridge. Dr Marcus wanting to be there to dissuade Daddy from killing people made perfect sense. Her hightailing it for the bridge after using the intercom to inform Kirk about what she bel...
