Re: D&D AND THE OPEN GAMING LICENSE
Problem is, it's very easy to bypass there attempts at control of the Virtual Table Top. Just don't produce 'official to the VTT' D&D Character sheets. For spell effects 'Generic sphere - Fire effect' and you have Fireball. That, and allow 'custom, user supplies uploads', and fair use applies. ...

Re: D&D AND THE OPEN GAMING LICENSE
Wow. Washington Post hit it on the head. You'd think they'd have learned with 4e. (Go to Drivethru RPG. Filter for D&D and look at how much was out for 3e, 4e, and 5e. 4e had less released for it then OD&D/AD&D1E+2E did. 5e is catching up to 3e/D20 system.) And now you have a major medi...

Re: Halo Live Acction Series Pilot
For someone who doesn't care about the subject matter, you seem to have a lot of passion towards this subject in particular. I don't have to care about Halo to any great degree to determine that this iteration of it is made by talentless hacks and I have every reason to voice my displeasure as this...

Re: Halo Live Acction Series Pilot
That is very clearly just your opinion and there are plenty of people who disagreed with you. Which means your assertion that people who enjoyed it don't have a functioning brain is of not value other than being a rant coming from a Halo fanboy. At no point did I berate anyone for enjoying it. Go b...

Re: Halo Live Acction Series Pilot
I'm not really a halo fan either, I only ever played the first game back when. To me Picard is like pissing on the grave of something I liked, so it's personally offensive in a way Halo cannot be. It's just a cookie cutter sci-fi bang bang show. It is really less than cookie cutter. HALO exemplifie...

Re: Halo Live Acction Series Pilot
As crap as this is, Halo is still one of the top three best shows I've seen in the last year. Which are the other two? I do agree the pilot of HALO was a dumpster fire with dog shit sprinkling on top and I have no confidence it will improve from that, I am curious how in hell did it make into top t...

Re: The Influences on D&D... If Made Today
Hmm... If D&D was made today, I think the first difference would be, it wouldn't be system wise at all like D&D currently is. Which is sort of interesting. Do people pick up D&D rules or the world first?? I only have a passing familiarity with D&D gaming worlds, which I guess means a...

Re: Clone Wars rewrite project
Canonically that's true. We only see telepath work at quite short ranges like at Bespin though if they had done the PT differently that would easily have been explained by it being between one half-trained force user and one latent force user, not fully trained jedi. I wasn't thinking of it as a re...

Re: Clone Wars rewrite project
That sort of loops back to out discussion of trust. The more the jedi distrust the clones if they are obviously evil or going to back stab the jedi the more likely the jedi are to develop such contingencies. Yes well, I'd say the level of trust really needed to blindside the Jedi not as high as peo...

Re: Clone Wars rewrite project
Order 66 is a decapitation strike, there's no emphasis on killing individual Jedi as such, this is done if targets of opportunity arise (see what happens in Revenge of the Sith). The two main targets are Jedi leadership and any assets the Jedi order can call upon to support itself. If you can destro...

Also, I would like to point out that perhaps the word "sociopathic" is wrong. I thought I had made this clear a few posts ago. They aren't medically sociopaths, that would prevent them from bonding with each other. They just come ACROSS as sociopathic to everyone who WASN'T born and raise...

Re: Clone Wars rewrite project
It isn't immaterial if you expect the clones to be able to back stab the jedi because they trust them. There's a wide range of scenarios that can take place if the jedi become the clone's officers that don't end in order 66 if they were more suspicious and guarded with the clones. Because the plan ...

Re: Clone Wars rewrite project
You said it very well. An egomaniac like Palpatine wants total control and the trap only works if the Jedi trust the clones. If the clones are overly indoctrinated that won’t happen. You are not giving enough credit to Palpatine and just how clever and insidious his plan was. It basically boils dow...

Re: GoFundMe for Tires
Replacing a belt tensioner and belt is not that hard so if you know someone who can do spannerwork, source the parts yourself and pay someone on the side to do it. The real trick is to dig out all the bits of the old belt which usually end up wrapped around the crankshaft pulley and they need to com...

Re: GoFundMe for Tires
Well... things went from bad to worse. While driving Mom's car home from my niece's housewarming party, I start noticing the car's handling funny, like the steering wheel was stiff. We leave Gauley Mountain, get inside the town limits, the steering wheel is sticking and not wanting to turn. Battery...

Re: The Mandalorian Discussion Thread (spoilers and such)
As I recall, the only time we ever saw their armor crack is when Boba Fett hit them with his gaffi stick. The crude melee weapons used by the Ewoks didn't do that. The smith mandalorian also cracked the armor of at least two stormtroopers in the 8th episode of the 1st season. First is the guy hit i...

Re: The Mandalorian Discussion Thread (spoilers and such)
In the context of being hit by a blaster, it's probably only as effective as modern body armour is at stopping a gunshot. It reduces the lethality but isn't magic like the armour the elite characters wear. False analogy. Modern body armor that can stop rifle bullets has existed since the late 80's....

Re: The Mandalorian Discussion Thread (spoilers and such)
As for the armour, the best I can suggest is that it's optimised for dealing with energy weapons - maybe some kind of heat-resistant ceramic - on the assumption that the primary threat they have to deal with is blasters; with countermeasures against other threats left out to cut costs. In short, st...

Re: The Mandalorian Discussion Thread (spoilers and such)
Sorry if this has been discussed/should be obvious, but how does the stormtrooper armour being shattered by blunt forces like in this show relate to the effectiveness of the armour against bullets? Does it show us now conclusively that the armour would not present significant protection against mor...

What I want to know is, how are they going to deal with the fact that the concept of Psychohistory has aged like milk? Reveal it's bullshit like they did in the book? Re: Optimal size for a soldier?
Selecting smaller people to serve as tank crewmen was a totally reactionary decision by the russians to offset the cramped fighting compartment on T34 tanks which was a problem identified by the russians but rectifying it would have required a total redesign of the tank and this wasn't considered an...

Re: Optimal size for a soldier?
Isn't the whole point of a siege you're waiting fore the besieged party to surrender? Its not that simple in reality. Yes, once a siege is established, you're trying to starve the defenders into submission. In reality though, you want to avoid laying a siege thus you often see terms being offered t...

Re: What's up with Karen Traviss novels?
You know, once it was revealed she hated the Jedi, why was she allowed to continue writing novels? Hell, if she hated the Jedi, why did she start writing Star Wars novels? I think the bigger question is why insist on including them in your novels? Jedi are literary garbage, they're boring, bland an...

Re: Optimal size for a soldier?
Actually I think in a pre industrial setting there would be more benefits from giant super soldiers than in industrial setting where mass production of standardized equipment won wars. In a medieval setting there were no factory production lines, weapons and armor were hand made by craftsmen so hav...

Re: Optimal size for a soldier?
Melee combat reach is bad. Why? Recovery time. It takes longer for a 6 footer with a large sword to swing, then it does a gut with a longsword or even short swords. And in the case of mass combat, that's really bad. Cause while your 6 foot monster is trying to hit one guy, three more swarmed him. W...
