Re: Marvel fires Chuck Wendig to salve alt-reich
I think for the most part the crowd that despises TLJ (myself included) just doesn't care about Star Wars anymore. They've lost hope for a positive direction going forward (similar to Trek) AND they may not like having a certain political message being forced on them, especially in the ham-handed-bu...

Re: Marvel fires Chuck Wendig to salve alt-reich
There are two threads to this argument. 1) is if we pretend SW is a real place that is similar to our world and that humans in SW are similar to humans on earth, then we can expect there to be gay people just like on earth. You might argue that the population is heterogenous to avoid the average ap...

Re: Star Trek: Lower Decks
They should have just made a sitcom in the '90s based on "The Lower Decks", with all the actors. Use whatever sets from the shows are available, stock footage, dubbing. Go cheap and cheesy as shit, just write good jokes and know what Trek is.

Re: Reason for the fracturing of the klingon empire
Thanks Imperial Overlord, you summed it up perfectly. A shorter sword is ideal, but someone with skill will not have too many problems with a long sword and has an obvious reach advantage. Skallagrim on YouTube has a video about self-defense tactics in the home with a variety of blades. Unlike a rea...

Re: Reason for the fracturing of the klingon empire
Wouldn't a short thrusting sword like a Roman gladius be optimal for that sort of environment? Yes. Although you don't even need a shortsword -- even a longsword can work well in tighter hallways. Two bat'leths going at it would degenerate into a shoving match behind locked prongs. There's just no ...

Where does the CMO rank in the chain of command?
We've only seen two doctors take the bridge, and only Crusher was formally qualified to take the bridge.
Is it only a matter of rank and whether they have enough bridge hours, or do they also try to keep the CMO (and all other doctors) out of harm's way by putting them low on the list?

Oh wait...the beast is the Klingon?
Cool idea, but never happening on TV. I'd keep the design for a critter from Qo'nos or somewhere.

Re: What Klingons should look like
That really doesn't seem any different from the TOS Klingons. It is good that they note an omnivorous diet -- it was stupid making them pure carnivores. Personally I had no problem with the visual appearance of the TNG Klingons, except that the females' ridges should have had a more gracile appearan...

Re: Any good sources on Vulcan philosophy?
I haven't finished ENT yet (I'm in early S3), but I saw the episode where T'Pol undergoes pon farr ("Bounty" I think). Had that terrible episode not happened, I would have thought pon farr was exclusively a male phenomenon -- it definitely seems like its oriented towards releasing testoste...

Re: Any good sources on Vulcan philosophy?
Speaking of pon farr, that's another part of the equation. What species deliberately and voluntarily chooses to only mate once every few years? To the point that it's either a part of their genetic makeup or a major, devastating to their health build-up of accumulated hormones? That Surakian discip...

Re: Any good sources on Vulcan philosophy?
I don't believe so. My best guess is that both species had the innate potential to be telepathic, but the Vulcans were only able to harness it because of the change in philosophy and the rigorous mental discipline they subjected themselves to. The Romulans had no interest in following Surak's teachi...

Re: Jean-Luc Picard is Coming Back
Picard aside, I really want to see more about Cardassia and Bajor post-Dominion War. How have they managed to develop and exist with each other after such a traumatic history? Since I imagine that both have entered or are poised to enter the Federation, lingering conflict and bad feelings must exist...

Re: Discovery Series 2 News
I just watched the trailer for Season 2. What utter crap. I'm sorry, I'll admit up front that I have only seen the first two episodes -- most of what I know about the show I've gathered from here and Memory Alpha. That trailer reminded me why that felt like the right decision. Does anyone know a rea...

...Archer is sexually frustrated from being in space for so long and being around T'Pol keeps triggering unintended Freudian slips (keep in mind that the pilot made it clear he is bigoted against Vulcans). Re: VOY: Spirit Folk -- Holodeck Operation Question
The book that Picard threw through the door, and the two gangsters who tried to walk out, were destroyed within seconds. To have a successful creation of something, I think it would have to tie in with the replicator and transporter, as they attempted to do with Moriarty's girlfriend. But then, in ...

Re: Star Trek 4 gets a director
Right, by all means open the field to minority talents if you excluded them in the past -- just always remember what really matters to the job. Patting yourself on the back for it makes you look like you're just using the black person, woman, whatever and their special status as a tool, which is in ...

Re: VOY: Spirit Folk -- Holodeck Operation Question
Side question, now that I'm thinking about adjusting the programming. I'd wager that part of that programming could entail determining which objects are purely holographic and which are actual replicated matter. Unless the hologram is able to read people's minds and know that they, say, want to pick...

See Crazedwraith arguments. No one is disputing the article should give facts. The question is what are the points you want to emphasize. As a news source, not making a big fuss about her being the first woman director of ST movies would have been more effective in communicating the message. If the...

Possibly the Arch is still there... the two consoles on the left and on the right of the door in the Voyager holodeck might be a slimlined version of the bigger Arch used on the older models. It would be a better use of the space, I guess. Yeah, I was really referring to any kind of internal paneli...

VOY: Spirit Folk -- Holodeck Operation Question
Why did Tom and Harry have to jigger with the mechanics of the holodeck and program specifically in the tavern? In TNG, the method for accessing holodeck controls and program code while the program was still running seemed pretty simple -- they called up the arch. The arch generally popped up in a c...

Re: Star Trek 4 gets a director
If they felt the need to point out "first female to direct a Trek film" in the title, yeah I think they're trying to make a political point. I'm not going to whine about it on Facebook, but it does annoy me -- particularly because Trek has long given writing and directing opportunities to ...

Re: Justification for the Cardassian occupation of Bajor
It's clear that the Cardassians and their society are imbued with a sense of superiority and efficiency. Their imperialist motives came from that ingrained desire to dominate the other person in the room, as Capt. Jellico alluded to in "Chain of Command". The fact that they were inferior i...

...Riker's entire purpose on the show is to be the "action guy" who gets caught up in all the planetside away team plots while Picard, the more calm, cerebral, diplomatic captain, does the negotiation and the tense, difficult decision-making. It was an attempt to divide up the Kirk person...

Re: What does the Prime Directive say about dealing with a culture at an "intermediate" technological level?
Another thing to consider is that Section 31's legal status is "questionble" at best and they don't seem to follow any directives or commands for either Starfleet or the UFP goverment. In fact it's heavily implied that they're essentially a terrorist organization using a peice of legal fi...
