*Except of course if they were checking whether the bird broken its bones. Which would make sense if a human could catch it. Come to think of it, maybe that's why they did it in Turkey and only had the "Israeli spy" as a joke/excuse? The penny drops. If I had to guess, I'd say that they w...

Re: The Middle Class through the Hollywood lens
Metahive, is that coming from the comics/cartoons from the US, or the exclusive german ones? I never associated Donald with "Down on your luck", but then I've never really taken the time to look deeply at the character. The point about hollywood is well taken, although I wonder how much of...

Re: SCOTUS Guts Voting Rights Act
It's certainly possible, though it would probably cost quite a lot of money and result in a lot of complaints from universities. Then again, so many universities use the student ID as a form of debit card that it's probably just as well to make them hard to fake anyway... This is not a bad point. I...

Irbis, there've been several relatively public discussions of "filibuster reform" and what you're talking about is called the "nuclear option". The president of the senate has to simply get a majority vote to change the rules. I think it can be done any time, but I'm sure it can...

Expired gun licenses from other states are considered valid, but Social Security cards and student IDs are not. The comedy writes itself. Might it also be acceptable to show proof that you worked for the Minutemen Project? Social Security cards are not photo id (no photo), and most gun licenses are...

I think it's simpler than that Metahive. From his posts in the three threads he's active in at the moment, he really doesn't understand that a word is a semi-shared conceptual symbol. He's trying to treat them as inarguable facts. Carinthium, without reading too much of this... interesting ... disco...

I'd think those "parts of the country" would be pretty small ones. I've lived in a pretty broad range of the places available in the US, and I forget about it between these stupid political, partisan over reactions. EDIT: my point is that celebrations could be highly regional, like Boston'...

Also, we have our own labor day. It's actually OLDER than International Workers Day and even Haymarket (First federal Labor Day - 1894, Haymarket - 1896). The first May 1st demonstrations were in 1890. It wasn't established as a holiday until the International Socialist Conference in 1904.

There are a few options, and VMWare would love to charge you an arm and a leg to pull them off, but the reality is that this type of thing has been cyclical in the IT industry. I was just getting involved in IT during the waning days of NT, and I remember the panic back then. It continues to amaze m...

I think cognitive dissonance is a huge part of this exception at every level. I've only ever seen it in an american context, but I can't really think of any reason why this wouldn't be true for all humans: When people are asked to do or say something by someone in authority, they are predisposed to ...

I'd still like to know if he thinks Rogue's asymmetrical or just wearing a weird jacket, myself. The wrist issue's legit, but I'm not sure of the point of the foot comment, and while Storm is clearly being depicted with a long neck, it does not appear to be anywhere near "ring stretching" ...

Terralthra, I just want to be clear, your issue with what looks like the most female friendly comic book cover ever made is that the angle of the shoulders is wrong? Can you please show me an x-ray to prove that we're not seeing some weird effect from the jacket she's wearing? EDIT: Interestingly en...

BTW, if Obama doesn't donate more than the value of his federal salary to charity every year, I would be very surprised. Be surprised, this was already discussed. http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2011/04/18/president-obama-and-vice-president-biden-s-tax-returns-and-tax-receipts $245,075 in 2010, or 1...

You know what? Has anyone else on this board been furloughed during the past couple of years? I know it's been popular in public sector, so I'm sure at least a few of you have. It sucks. It particularly sucks if they are unable to spread the furlough over multiple months. I know people who because t...

To expand, even a directed verdict of "Not Guilty" can be appealed (and that seems to be the closest to this situation). As for the objections, a lot of it is nationalistic chest thumping. A lot more is ignorance. The claims of "better/worse" that are being thrown around are inap...

Re: UK approves new nuclear plant
The UK is (I think, I'm having some trouble doing the unit conversion at the moment) a net exporter of natural gas. The argument that nothing could disrupt the North Sea is disingenuous at best. The idea that they only keep a 1 or 2 day supply is straight up insane. I guess the question is: Can the ...

It's just as much about color as bending light. The color effect's you got with the painting filter are about right, but then you could resharpen. I think there's too much light, though. Maybe go with the light levels from the original "sand textures" picture, and start dropping colors htt...

The real property aspect as well as the municipal focus are twigging something in the back of my mind, but I haven't had the time to look up the various statutes in Montana.
Could this have to do with locally imposed property taxes and corporate taxes?

I just had the best crash ever, and I wasn't running a recorder.
While testing the abort button, I shut off the engines, decoupled, and fired seperatrons in one action. Then I deployed my chute.
After about five seconds, the original rocket scores a direct hit on the capsule!
