Re: Rick Perry Is Done For

Hmm...

After cheering for death, cheering for "Let him die!", and booing a gay soldier; I have a bad feeling that the majority of the GOP voting base could care less.

Re: What to do about Obama?

Having first-hand experience on how Rick Perry governs, Obama may be bad but Perry is so much worse. While Obama may lay the groundwork for the dismantlement of entitlements and social programs, hold off on environment reform, and maintain the tax breaks for the wealthy. Perry will do his best to de...

Re: Libya: A Premature Victory Celebration

The war in Libya is over. More precisely, governments and media have decided that the war is over, despite the fact that fighting continues. The unfulfilled expectation of this war has consistently been that Moammar Gadhafi would capitulate when faced with the forces arrayed against him, and that h...

Re: Space Pirates vs. 24th Century UFP

That's gotta be the worst case of technobabble-itis I've ever seen! It's quite clear that the Metroid writers pay even less attention to their technical advisers than the Star Trek writers do. I mean, "supercooled plasma"? That's absurd. Since they were using 'superheated magma' on one of...

Re: Uprising in Libya

Rebels are saying that they did capture him, but somehow he escaped.

As far as Saif's claim that this is all an elaborate trap for the rebels, well...I feel a bit of deja-vu here, this seems to be like the trap for the rebels in RoTJ...which didn't turn out so good for the regime there either.

By my count that is 3 of them, other reporting that his loyalists are holed up in the Rixos Hotel, which is where I expect Ghaddafi to be hiding...a place NATO would never bomb.

It wouldn't surprise me, the rebels have their trial with Saif...and I really don't see Ghaddafi surrendering anyway. He has no way out and nowhere to go, his options are very limited.

Re: war of the R.R.'s (greater evils)

The Others fear fire. What does Mordor have in abundance? Orks and fire. The Others are thoroughly fucked. Have a very nice day. -fgalkin Respectfully, the Nights Watch have fire, the Children of the Forest have fire, the Wildlings have fire, everyone has fire. If fire and numbers were all you need...

Re: Commander Shepard vs, Master Chief

Unfortunately another game came along called Mass Effect 2 and totally changed how biotics worked. I also am a bit skeptical of the usefulness of throwing a guy into a wall who could survive atmospheric re-entry.

Do we have any numbers on the firepower of ME weaponry?

Re: Commander Shepard vs, Master Chief

I don't think Shep can survive the Spartan Wank.

As I recall his armor and shields could shrug off 30mm rounds and even survived an anti-tank missile. This it to say nothing of genius level intelligence, super-human reaction time, massive strength, etc.

Re: war of the R.R.'s (greater evils)

what if the gate opens North of the Wall and leads to Darkest Mordor? We get an immediate 9 vs. Others conflict with more Orcs than you can shake a stick at, and you might need little miss badass Stark to kill the Witchking.... There wouldn't be a major conflict. Sauron is skilled in diplomacy and ...

Yes, that is it. IIRC Jon's wounds smoke a bit as well.
His stab-wound looked like it was smoking, but wouldn't that just be from the cold? I do think it is significant but I think the Red Priestess and her god would be interested in how that looked.

Re: A Dance with Dragons Discussion Thread (Spoilers July 12

Other than being somewhat fire-resistant I don't think their wounds are any different. There was that bit about Danny's hands when wounded leaked a 'white fluid' one would have thought it was pus but GRRM mentions pus often enough but chose not to do so in this case. I don't recall off-hand if Jon's...

Re: A Dance with Dragons Discussion Thread (Spoilers July 12

Also, the R+L=Jon Snow theory might very well be canon by now, given all the hints Martin dropped in this book (like the previous candidate's baby being stillborn and his wounds behaving exactly like those of somebody with dragon blood). I think that theory just got a strong shot in the arm by this...

Re: war of the R.R.'s (greater evils)

I think the Westeros side is an extremely complicated thing to consider... These people do not get along, if the gate opened next to Kings Landing before the death of King Robert that is one thing and you could get a good sized force there. If the gate opens across the Narrow Sea or during the subse...

Re: A Dance with Dragons Discussion Thread (Spoilers July 12

If I had to guess. Jon Snow is quite dead, and not entirely unwarranted. The Wall existed for thousands of years with the tradition of keeping the Wildlings from marching south, and that is exactly what Jon proposed. This being said the real enemy is the Others, but the Brothers just haven't had th...

Re: You are now Sky Marshall(Starship Troopers movie verse)

The feeling I got from the movie was that the way the MI worked was that it was never meant to be an effective military. Military service is more a right of passage, so that everyone who wants to be important has to have gone through this experience and will have the "right" views. Do the...
