Re: 50% of customers won’t connect smart appliances
There’s lots of conversation here about the lack of / questionable benefits of putting an appliance online, combined with previously proved malicious behaviour on the part of TV manufacturers. Even if you think the best of everyone, software costs money to maintain over time. Having the system conne...

Re: "Skin Game" Discussion (Dresden Files novel - Spoilers!)
Whether or not this is a smart move is another question to be answered in the next Faerie-centric novel. It has been mentioned that the Summer/Winter mantles affect the person within, and Maeve's mantle can't be good for Molly.Gaidin wrote:The only Faerie he'd trust Maggie to is Molly these days...

Re: Space Marine Battles series thread
Have you read Wrath of Iron yet? Man. There is nothign likable, at all, about the Iron Hands. They are just a collection of massive assholes who even the AM thinks there is something wrong with. I never saw it this way, primarily because they had information about the actual threat that was in the ...

Re: 40k starships questions
The space battles were probably one of the better aspects of the book, particularily since it greatly reduces the level of general Space marine wank in the book . there's only so many times seeing BOB MARINE BADASS chainswording his way through hordes of cannon fodder enemy xyz without something to...

Re: 40k starships questions
List of space battles off-hand that were reasonable and a fair length: Relentless and Cadian Blood are both one-shots. Dark Mechanicus, Sabbat Martyr, Salvation's Reach and Dark Creed all had significant portions of the novel dedicated to the space battle. Oh, and Gildar's Rift comes to mind, though...

Actually, I think the weasels are t the Wasp Eaters. Note that they were originally bred to hunt slaver wasps; being able to detect revenants was an unexpected side benefit . I'm guessing that Dr. Bren is the guy who developed them. If he's dead, then they have to save the ones they've got because ...

Re: Saving the the Imperium of Man
What kind of attendant assets are you talking about ? Because, as powerful as the Astartes are, there are still only 5,000 of them. And each one can only be in one place at a time. So unless these attendant assets include a large number of other infantry, I just can't see how they could conquer a p...

Aside from the president, I feel like none of the characters from the first movie are in this trailer. It's quite jarring.

Re: The Girl Genius Thread
The Baron's explanation all hinges on a piece of information 'found' beneath Strumhalten. That's completely under his control and is pretty flimsy. His remarks about 'mistrusting' coincidence in order to disregard the sheer unlikeliness of what Agatha has done also strains belief. At face value, the...

Roy's assumptions about V make perfect sense. Unfortunately, they're wrong and his team's about to get reamed for it. I wonder if Roy's going to take the magic carpet into the skies.
I'm going to assume that Tarquin's going to take prisoners, with a straggler or two like Haley getting away.

I'm glad that they're already opening up this match-up. I kind of expected Tarquin to stick around for 300+ strips before he plays his gambit, but I'm excited to see them properly match up. I doubt that this battle will be decisive though. It doesn't feel that way given what happened to V. And Thog ...

Wouldn't that fit with the opposite thing though? Nale plans everything out carefully while Elan wings it. Kind of like how Durkon hated trees and leeky used them as minions. The opposites thing has its limits. For example, the match-ups themselves are against a truly opposite being. Physical is st...

Ah at last, another side-arc that will actually speed up the plot. Because we all know when Agatha is involved, we're guaranteed to be wasting time. I don't know if super assistant girl has a name, but she's rather amusing. And I like the way she's always anticipating Vanamonde, who, if I remember c...

Re: Deathwatch vs Space marines
Given the difficulty of warp travel, hell YES. First of all, the Deathwatch does has to have its own repository for geneseed and is responsible for storing and returning geneseed of brothers lost on missions. The rest is scale of resources. The resources actually expended to train and create an ini...

The inqisition already maintains the watch fortresses, equipment and training of the deathwatch. Your simply swapping the overhead of providing specialised training to a marine that is only going to serve a single mission. To training recruits that are yours to use however you wish once they have c...

I was just up by Ottawa with my girlfriend and if you haven't been to Parliament yet, that means you still have an excuse to drop* by the Fairmont and have the unbelievably decadent Afternoon Tea at Zoe's Lounge . The locks and the park next door are good for a quick stroll as well. Other than that ...

Cheaper and a more reliable flow of manpower . Deathwatch recruitment is based on these factors. 1. The chapters volunteer suitable recruits for the Deathwatch. If found suitable, then he awaits the Watch Commander/Deathwatch to come fetch him. Naturally, this would also be based on Chapter politic...

Re: Deathwatch vs Space marines
IO makes it quite clear that the Deathwatch are superior to ordinary marines (for Xenos purging purposes). Whatever the reason for that, the Inquisition stands only to gain by not having to deal with Chapter politics that are bound to occur with a standard Space Marine chapter. Furthermore, unlike t...

Re: Voting time: Select the next 40K novel I cover!
Honestly, I rather liked Flesh and Iron for subverting the typical "Imperium=good and noble, Chaos=baby-eating monsters" paradigm seen in most 40k fluff. Exactly what was it you didn't like about it? This was a great part of the novel. Unfortunately, it was the latter third. The previous ...
