Re: Norway shutting down all FM radio stations by 2017

Interestingly, satellite radio never took off here. We have AM/FM radio, or people just stream things like Spotify or podcasts. That's what most do here, stream Spotify or just run the radio. Other than Bluetooth for connecting the phone I can't see anything else I would want from a radio in the ca...

Re: Norway shutting down all FM radio stations by 2017

We are still FM/AM here in the states with the rich kids just having to have something better so they get satellite radio.
What's this alternative 🤔 to FM you speak of? I have never heard a peep about it.

Re: Scifi SR-71

Hhhmmm, you seem 🤔 😕 to be mixing quite a few different things into 1 craft. Maybe separate them into separate ships so they can be specifically designed for those individual jobs?
A SR-71 is a high speed recon ship and not much else for a reason. Just saying!

Re: AIP only submarines

It's not just the cost of the sub. It's the cost of the entire nuclear industry & infrastructure needed to build & support it, plus you need to train all those people along with the ones who are operating the subs. The subs themselves may cost $3 billion a pop or whatever it is, but what yo...

Re: AIP only submarines

Nucs tend to be on the biggish side and fiendishly expensive. Bluewater only ships are little use to a costal/littoral navy even if they can afford it. Hhhmmm well I watch sub brief by Aaron Amick on YouTube and on the whole nuclear subs don't seem to be that much more expensive than diesel subs bu...

Re: Samsung 4G vs 5G phones.

I have a A51 4g phone through straight talk. It seems to me the ram & storage are better on the 5g phones when I was shopping phone's last spring. I only spent $200 on this phone while the 5g was atleast $100 more. I didn't think it was worth the extra money so I went with the 4g phone. Never lo...

James Web Space Telescope returns first images 😀

So the first test images are in. Seems the mirrors are a little more off than they thought the rocket would jostle them around but not to worry as the mirrors have motors to aline them remotely. 😉
Soon we will have dedicated infrared space telescope images to fawn over boys! Soon very soon!

Are we not considering nuclear power as a AIP? I don't understand why nations are still launching diesel/ electric boats in the nuclear sub age. Nuclear power just seems like God mode IMHO

Re: What if Venus was Actually Earth Like?

I am very sure that present day Venus's atmosphere is so thick it's pressure alone would crush human's and most earth life. I recall a model that showed the surface layers moving as fluids even though they were several hundred degrees. At least hot enough to melt the last probes to be sent there. T...

Yup after a 3 year unstoppable bromanse it's all dead to him because of one little fact check. 😆 P.S. as I understand it there is literally nothing he can do by executive order, he needs Congress and that means asking which totally pisses him off to no end for some reason so I guess we will see just...

Re: Cost Effectiveness of the Jedi Order, or, Why the Jedi are the Good Guys

How does a normal cop deal with a criminal that can wave his hand and say, "these are not the pic-pocketing kids you are looking for" and poof they are off the hook? The Force poses a much greater implication than just look cool I can grab things from across the room or push with out havi...

Re: Cost Effectiveness of the Jedi Order, or, Why the Jedi are the Good Guys

Scenarios where learning to use magic or psionics or The Force or whatever requires years of dedicated, careful training for even the most inherently talented always make me wonder how anyone learned how to use the thing in the first place. After all, someone had to be first. How did that person fi...

Re: Cost Effectiveness of the Jedi Order, or, Why the Jedi are the Good Guys

One thing the Jedi do that some deem to be evil or at least unethical is their method of procurement of new Jedi. Some say taking children is unethical but consider what trouble a force wielding little kid could get into if they really started pushing their Force power's instead of treating them lik...

I just don't get it, why won't people make getting a Gov. recognised photo ID a priority so they can vote and shit? Can't we all agree that people should have to prove who they are beyond, "hey I am so and so just trust me" so that they can then cast a vote or what ever? Jesus just get a p...

Re: Your opinions on collision attack between spaceships

This guy on YouTube (he goes by the name Isaac Arthur) goes into great detail discussing possible weapons that a real alien civilization could use to attack us and basically comes to the conclusion that no space craft is unarmed. Why you might ask, well if they have the speed to break orbit then the...

I wonder how they expect a guy to see with this helmet? Look at where the eye's should be, it's like those cheek pieces are jabbing into his eye's. That must be fun.

Re: Does space dock even make sense?

What need do they have for a station that huge ? Because once you have mining/manufacture ing in space all you have to do is just keep adding to the station and you can reach mind boggling sizes for very little cost. You still have to justify that cost. The more station you have the more ships they...

Re: Does space dock even make sense?

The problem is that a uniform ring around the planet does not exert gravitational attraction due to shell theorem*, and by extension is not attracted by the planet either. Spinning it will not do anything to prevent this. *Shell theorem was first proven by Newton, but is easiest to explain with Gau...

Re: Does space dock even make sense?

Large stations are one thing, a planetary ring is well beyond that. Halo-type ring stations that are set in a conventional orbit would only need to be strong enough to hold together if spun, but a rigid ring that is wrapped around a planet would have stability issues. Namely, it wouldn't be orbitin...

Re: Does space dock even make sense?

It's plausible that warships cost more than an equivalent volume of space station - maybe high-grade warp drives are like 80% of the cost of a Galaxy-class, I don't know. I think I will second this notion, piston engine's in cars are like 10 to 20 % the total cost but turbine engine's can are reall...

I really can't understand why Starfleet does not have more Halo like ring stations like big enough to go around planets big. See Corellia of starwars for reference.
