Re: Rail Fares Going Up Again

It also didn't help that the massive Beeching cuts in the 60's literally slaughtered a lot of the network. Granted, there were a lot of unprofitable lines and stations, but it went too far with further cuts in the decades after that. One prime example is the line from Kilmarnock in Scotland to Glasg...

I find the whole overuse of the sonic screwdriver to be downright bloody annoying now, it just seems that its a magic 'I win' for everything.

Re: Build the Titanic!

Like many of the others here I prefer the aesthetics of the older luxury liners like the Aquitania, the Queen Mary even up to the SS United States and the SS France. I'm not a fan of the looks of the floating Tenement buildings of today, but saying that, I think using the name Titanic is a bit tacky.

Re: UK approves new nuclear plant

Oh hey, natural gas. I'm sure glad moving towards another very limited, price sensitive hydrocarbon is on the agenda. And clean coal, ha. Hilarious. But then people believe natural gas is clean too. Cleaner than coal? Sure. Clean? Uh, no. D'oh, mistake on my part, Inverkip was built in the late 60'...

Re: UK approves new nuclear plant

Meanwhile in Ayrshire in Scotland, the Hunterston B nuclear plant is nearing the end of its active life, with A having been decommisioned many years ago. For a while it was almost a given that there would be a C Nuclear plant but objections were raised and there was talk of a clean coal plant which ...

Re: Silicon Knights ordered to destroy their games

Not sure if you're being sarcastic, I can never tell with you. :) Alpha Protocol is one of the best examples though. It didn't have mind blowing graphics and required thought and patience. Most reviewers now seem to want a game they can pick up, play and complete within two minutes, and AP wasn't th...

Re: What other 2000ad properties could be made into movies

I think The V.C.s could work as a movie but it would just be a fairly generic space-warfare movie, and the series ran in 2000AD so long ago hardly anyone would remember it. (Edit: on checking the series was apparently revived about 10 years ago). The original VC's ran near the very first issues, bu...

Re: Silicon Knights ordered to destroy their games

Too Human wasn't bad, it wasn't great, but not bad, in my opinion anyway. Alpha Protocol however is a prime example of reviewers screwing things up. Playing the game half decently takes a thing called patience, ad a case of RTFM. Just because Alpha Protocol didn't have mind blowing graphics that wou...

Re: Silicon Knights ordered to destroy their games

Too Human is nowhere near as bad as idiot nerds say, and X-Men Destiny at least tried to be interesting. Too bad the developers were complete morons, I guess? Why would people be waiting for an Eternal Darkness sequel anyway? The baton has well and truly been passed to a good number of actual...

Re: So, Dead Rising 2

Is there anything the game does better than Dead Island? I got Dead Rising 2 dirt cheap and Dead Island GOTY dirt cheap. Played DR2, but as mentioned, the mission timers are a pain in the arse and I never picked it up again. Dead Island on the other hand, I've only played to the main lifeguard stat...

I was temporarily on Employment and Support Allowance which is the replacement for Incapacity. I had problems in late 2008 when I could barely breathe, often fell asleep without warning and so on. After a few weeks of of also suffering from a bad cold I went to the GP. I had an ECG taken and was rus...

Obviously a scam as MS won't cold call you. I got one of these assholes saying they were from 'Windows' calling about my computer. Luke's X-34 Landspeeder

I built plastic models, and unfortunately the current range of Star Wars models by Revell are of the pre-painted variety. Despite this I've already weathered and touched up the ARC-170, Anakins Jedi Fighter and the Imperial Shuttle. Now I've got Lukes X-34 Landspeeder from ANH. The interior is, shal...

I suggest our British members use some kind of semaphore system to first transmit flames to Scotland before converting to any electronic formate. I know you're probably joking here mate, but I'm Scottish yet also count myself as British, we're not all lickspittle supporters of Alex Salmon up here. :)

His pieces with Lisa Gerrard for Man on Fire, Gladiator (Now we are free) and Black Hawk Down (Gortoz a Ran), Mission Impossible 2 (Injection theme) have also been good. If you like his contempary Badelt, listen to the K-19 soundtrack. And despite the lashing the film gets, Zimmers score for Pearl H...

Re: Why did Italy perform so poorly in WW2?

The main thing I've heard against the French was that a lot of their high command was still stuck in WW1 tactics which against the German Blitzkrieg stood no chance. To be fair there were a lot of British commanders stuck in the same mindset. The use of tanks for instance. De Gaulle was meant to hav...

For depressing there was a six part documentary by Lawrence Rees called "Auschwitz, the Nazis and the Final Solution". Also, the BBC did a reconstruction of the Chernobyl disaster as told from the diaries of one Valeri Legasov. Its on Youtube, first part here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

I wouldn't say ALL high rise housing is bad. Apparently the earliest post war examples were decent being built fairly well, but later ones were thrown up econoboxes. Glasgow had an infamous example in the Gorbals of about half a dozen blocks of flats that shortly after opening were all evacuated due...

I'm Scots and don't think we'd be better off under Independence. I just do not like or trust Salmond, like a lot of politicans he strikes me as a condescending, patronising git.
