Re: Douchebag tricks his girlfriend into taking abortion pil

Context matters. Clearly I was referring to responsibility for raising/supporting a child. Women can choose to take that responsibility. Men have no choice in the matter. So yes they do have it thrust upon them. Actually, technically speaking, the choice a woman makes is the one regarding her bodil...

There was no Chris Hemsworth in Iron Man 3, but I still would have preferred spending another $20 watching that again to watching Star Trek.

Re: Stark Trek Into Darkness *SPOILERS*

I thought the movie was rubbish. The music especially kept on dragging me right out of the film. It was like instead of creating actual drama tension, they'd just show Benedict Cumberbatch's face and then do the "bad guy" music. The cold opening was just an exercise in tedium despite being...

Re: Marvel is pathetically sexist.

Terralthra, I just want to be clear, your issue with what looks like the most female friendly comic book cover ever made is that the angle of the shoulders is wrong? Can you please show me an x-ray to prove that we're not seeing some weird effect from the jacket she's wearing? No, I'm pretty sure t...

Re: Marvel is pathetically sexist.

Well, Marvel has got the new Captain Marvel comics (which is Ms Marvel, except with a name change plus a less t&a costume), plus Sif is now the star of Journey into Mystery, which are both pretty feminist. And there's a new all-female X-men series starting next month, which may or may not be rac...

Re: Nolan and Bale may work on Justice League film.

I think the plot holes in TDKR were more obvious because the story repeats itself. Bruce Wayne starts off broken and without hope, goes back to being Batman... And then promptly gets his back broken and dumped in some random hole in the ground so he can go through the whole process again. It's borin...

Re: A Post About Sexual Harassment

Christ, SI, how tedious a person are you that you think it's difficult to be more interesting than a picture of Chris Hemsworth? I mean, pictures of Chris Hemsworth are great and all, but they can't talk, and they don't give you hugs when you're feeling lonely. Hell, they don't even have real penisi...

Re: A Post About Sexual Harassment

Which is the problem of course, everyone thinks that they're Chris Hemsworth, or close enough. Just like everyone thinks they're an above average driver? It occurs to me that a good rule of thumb for dealing with women is to keep in mind that you are not Chris Hemsworth*, and then act in such a way...

Re: New York Legislature screws up language, bans all guns

This thread is fucking hilarious. Americans are one of the most vocal nation when it comes to vociferously claiming that people need to step up and take personal responsibility to address whatever the problem du jour happens to be, but as soon as the application of that personal responsibility has ...

Re: A Post About Sexual Harassment

Indeed, even a friendly wink and smile could catch a woman as the wrong time when she's not in the mood to deal with yet another male advance or expressed interest in her, and thus qualifies as harassment. One of your problems might be this: you seem to think that a "friendly wink" from a...

Re: A Post About Sexual Harassment

One of the things that guys don’t get is why women don’t like to be hit on. So hitting on women is the same as harassing them? There are plenty of guys who can't seem to do the one without doing the other. And women get hit on a lot more than guys do. If you get hit on several times a day, just whi...

Re: New York Legislature screws up language, bans all guns

See, even you are falling into the same mindset, even if you don't realise it. You discuss it in terms of being judged and being asked to justify one's innocence - except for people in other societies (say Germany, Australia, etc.) we don't see it as judgement at all . The officer who asks you to br...

Re: New York Legislature screws up language, bans all guns

See, as an Australian, I don't view breathalysers as any different from, say restaurant health inspections.

Not that it's my problem anyway - just another reason not to move to America. I just think the possible interplay between attitudes to licencing inspections and gun control to be fascinating.

Re: New York Legislature screws up language, bans all guns

Does anyone else think that the US antipathy towards licence compliance inspections might be one of the reasons why the anti-gun crowd goes for weapon and magazine bans, rather than things like proper licensing and storage laws? No. Even if we take it as axiomatic that licence compliance inspection...

Re: A Post About Sexual Harassment

Part of what turns these things from an innocent compliment to harassment is the way in which some men seem to think that finding you attractive gives them the right to treat you however they feel like, and the woman must be flattered, cause after all they're giving her a compliment, right? I have l...

Re: You control Buffy Season 6

I quite like season 6, so I'd largely keep as is, except for minor changes, such as getting rid of the magic = drugs metaphor. If total control includes having mind control powers over Anthony Stuart Head so that he wouldn't want to go back to England to spend more time with his family, then I would...

This conduct is far from limited to in front of bars or from annoying and/or irritating men. Except, of course, this sort of conduct is inherently annoying and irritating to one degree or another. Hence, don't dismiss it as "they were drunk and annoying" because a lot of men who are sober...

Re: A Post About Sexual Harassment

It would be a fascinating (if impossible) experiment if one could make all male sexual interest in females virtually non existent (no whistles, compliments, glances, attempts to impress, etc). Essentially men saw and perceived women like they would any other average male, and women would have to do...

I hire my shitty ex to kill him. Then I admit everything and turn us both in, hopefully getting a plea bargain of some kind, and even though I get to go to prison, at least my shitty ex gets put away too, and good riddance.

Can I just say that the "well cars kill people too" analogy always struck me as fucking stupid, because we rely on cars and trucks to maintain the supply chains in our heavily urbanised society. Yeah, you can argue that we don't need to use cars as much as we do now, and I'm all for reduci...
