Re: Game of Thrones Season 3 casting news (minor spoilers)
You laugh, but there's a decent case to be made that dragons are more like cannon- the invention that killed the feudal system and centralized power.

Re: Game of Thrones Season 2 deleted scenes
Sandor and Sansa is the big scene that should have stayed in. It's the only scene that really illustrates the "little bird" storyline properly (since they seem to be TRYING to get a translation of the book here). At the very least, we got a sense that he has a real (creepy) thing for her, ...

Re: What if Margaery married Robert (ASOIAF AU)
Here's a fun thought - I could see Varys going along with this plan. It creates a huge division in the realm while putting off immediate war. Why? Because with Cersei and her retinue gone from court, Ned's immediate digging stops, or at the very least becomes less urgent, as he becomes preoccupied w...

Re: The Gatekeepers - Israels security service
Ehud Olmert, last Israeli Prime Minister with any sort of peace plan, was thrown out in judicial coup d'etat in 2008. Olmert probably lost a political game or two to have to actually have to stand trial, but saying it was a conspiracy by the right-wing to remove him is ridiculous The man presided o...

Well, she doesn't have the savvy to take over a major political party. Do you necessarily think that translates into not being able to be a political leader? I think the two skillsets are very different.

Re: True Blood season 5...
Sam! With Sam! Can we have a Sam show? Sam can be all the characters and it can be melodramatic and AWESOME. Because... damn. Those scenes of Sam tenderly holding himself just about made the season for me. It's one of those moments that really define True Blood. EDIT: Oh, yeah. And just in a season ...

So... raise the salary. Price-match jobs in the school's area. Of course that sends the message to students that math is more important than literature, which is not exactly ideal.... but the teachers have to come from somewhere.

Re: The Dark Knight Rises (Spoilers)
Ghetto edit: The shot of Alfred in the cafe at the end annoyed me. Specifically, the fact that they felt the need to have the camera cut over to Bruce and Selina. Alfred just waving gets the point across just fine. Cutting to show Bruce waving back just seemed insulting to the viewer's memory and in...

Re: The Dark Knight Rises (Spoilers)
I felt this was overall a very flawed movie. In ways that surprised me. I think the reason I would still define it as good is that it made it's themes and direction clear enough, and those were good enough to forgive the flaws in execution. Does anyone else get the feeling it was chopped down from a...

Re: Game of Thrones Season 3 casting news (minor spoilers)
The rest of the casting looks decent, however. Edmure's face has the right combination of innocence and bravery that the character needs. Seen Rome? http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=o8vwmdLFWmE (shitty resolution, damn early youtube, but yeah its out on blu-ray so ...) Nev...

Re: Game of Thrones Season 3 casting news (minor spoilers)
Given that Storm of Swords is the occasion of the Khaleesi Gone Wild scenes, and that Dany's handmaidens are all dead in the series, IIRC.... it's quite possible Missendei was cast in an aged-up fashion to fill that particular void, since I find it difficult to believe HBO will pass up those scenes...

Huh. I figured that was Barry the bellboy from season 2, for whatever reason. But yeah, his character is listed as "Faerie Claude" in the credits, so it isn't him. Bill still sucks for not warning Jessica about the whole thing, though. He KNOWS all about faeries, and knows how seductive th...

- Seriously, Bill Compton? YOU, of all people, did not teach your daughter what fairies smell like? FAIL Maker. I'm beginning to understand Eric's distaste for him, especially given how seriously we see he takes his progeny. Although it's interesting that Jessica never smelled Sookie that way before...

True Blood season 5...
is not terribly popular here, if this is the first thread on it here. Ah, well. Anyone care about the first two episodes? Personally, I think the directions look very promising: - Sookie is in a plotline that doesn't involve her boobs, and that might actually involve her focusing on something beside...

Yowza, yowza, yowza. I was.... 16 in 2002 (well, 15 for most of it). By 2002 had gained and lost my first GF, and was living out a bubble-boy existence of blowing off studies, reading the Internet and being a shut-in. I found this forum through a link to the main pages on Gamefaqs. Not much to tell,...

Re: Game of Thrones Season 3 casting news (minor spoilers)
So, does this mean my dream of seeing Summer Glau as Meera Reed still has a chance? (Well, no - Peter Dinklage is all the "fantasy cast" we're likely to see) The Tullys being cast this late in the game is interesting. The Blackfish as a sort of estranged uncle who hangs around Cat is one t...

Cersei specifically mentions a "lion's head necklace" and then mocks Tyrion for being careless. I don't recall when she was given the necklace, possibly it happened off screen (perhaps compensation for sending her to Joffrey?). Here's a fun idea - what if Joffery gave her that necklace? T...

Re: GoT: S2 Clash of Kings ***SPOILERS***
HBO might not even need to fight piracy too hard, at least before its shows show up on DVD/BRD/Amazon VOD/iTunes. Here I disagree. HBO's business case for fighting piracy is MUCH stronger than most networks. They're some of the few in the biz of selling consumers a product, as opposed to selling co...

They'd get less piracy, but blow up their relationships with cable companies (who would be a teensy-bit pissed that HBO is weakening their positioning as exclusive gatekeepers of their content). Before they could burn that bridge, they'd have to move from the very comfortable position of being an ex...

Neo-Nazi party in Greece could enter Parliament
Link Fascist Salutes Return to Greece as Anti-Immigrants Chase Voters Theodore Couloumbis experienced the Nazi occupation of Greece as a boy and 70 years later he’s worried he’ll witness the return of stiff-armed salutes and fascist flags. The Golden Dawn party may enter the parliament in Athens fo...

Re: Apple decides what to do with $100 billion
There's a place for marketing. Fooling people into buying your mediocre product at a premium price isn't it. The quality of a product is measured to people by "How well will it do what I want?". To you and me, what we "want" is measured in hardware power - we want theoretical ab...

Re: Meanwhile in Israel...Iron Dome goes back to work
Doubtful that it will - even with Iron Dome, the missiles still set off alarms. Which means people still have to run periodically for shelter, and therefore everyday life continues to be disrupted. And they will never turn off the alarms. The Dome has failed once or twice in the past few days, hitti...

Re: Stories where sequels are artistically impossible
The Matrix sequels were badly executed, but the idea of the Resistance war being a cycle could have actually been done well. What really bugged me is that they never addressed the characters' sudden upgrading or downgrading vs Agents. In the first movie, no Agent was a match for Neo by the end - he ...

Re: Analysis: Animorphs
I'm going to assume you don't care about spoiling future books in this post: Cassie was willing to let the Animorphs be captured (and, you know, get humanity enslaved) rather than get her hands dirty killing a little girl in book 19. She nearly threw away the war by letting Tom walk away with the mo...
