Re: Study linking autism and vaccination an "elaborate fraud

The sad part about this is that it doesn't seem to be changing minds here. I saw that MMR numbers in Britain are rising again; it seems like people are starting to "get it" again. But here in the USA, they are still falling. And, what's worse, you are getting these pockets of unvaccinated ...

Re: THE SDN RECIPE THREAD!

By request from my Panamanian husband, I tried my hand at sancocho this weekend. It turned out pretty good. This is the tradition Panama version, as I know many hispanic countries have a version of this dish. -box chicken broth (or make your own) -2 onions cut into chunks -4 garlic cloves diced -3 c...

You can use tape, weights, etc to full the shaft skin down over the head..it takes a really long time but the skin will eventually stretch. There's a lot lost that you won't get back though like the frenulum. NORM put together what they call the "lost list" that talks about the different f...

It's really close for us-- hour 45 min to 2 hour drive. We can go down for the day and drive back easily. Does anyone want to meet up somewhere?

Re: Another victim of genital barbarism

Just wanted to add that "stretching" is something they usually recommend to teenagers or nearby that age, though I think typically it probably is a lot like that Scrubs episode where they tell the kid to masturbate once a day. but here is a study that addresses stretching: http://www.jpeds...

Re: Another victim of genital barbarism

We had a running list of physicians that displayed good knowledge of intact care and the normal development of the prepuce. We would recommend them doctors and many would call back to thank or or use the email system. Time and time again it was the same: my son is normal. He is urinating normally. H...

Re: Another victim of genital barbarism

Of course in the USA, doctors will throw out the phimosis diagnosis from the day of birth to get that circumcision done. I volunteered for a NOCIRC call center for a while and there was at least one a day when I helped them concerning a doctor who tried to use phimosis as a diagnosis on an infant. O...

Re: Another victim of genital barbarism

Which part of Canada are you in? The current highest rate in canada is 44% in Newfoundland. Overall the rate is below 30% if you take all of Canada as a whole. This reflects current sentiments it would seem. If so many were upset with not being circumcised, you would think they would have their kids...

Re: Another victim of genital barbarism

Attorneys for the Rights of the Child, an organization that represents families affected by circumcision, has handled over 20 cases of "accidental" circumcision in the past two years. I can only imagine how many really happen if that's the number that seek legal council from their organiza...

LionElJonson, what is your opinion on fetuses with complications such as aprosencephaly? should a woman risk the dangers of giving birth in these cases? you questioned another member when she said that abortion increases freedoms for women. How can you deny that forcing a woman to carry to term when...

Re: Do you eat meat?

I don't see the problem with saying you "eat vegetarian" 3x a week; I say that all the time. It conveys the point well: we don't eat meat on those days. Yeah, we are obviously omnivore, but when you are actually describing how you eat in more detail I think it works. I think it works with...

Re: Do you eat meat?

I agree with that. Likewise, people who say "I don't eat red meat" as if that was somehow virtuous annoy the shit out of me. If it's a matter of you don't like the taste, fine, but the problem with red meat isn't so much that it's red meat but the quantities typically eaten. Chicken, turk...

Re: Do you eat meat?

I voted "eat meat regularly". We go with 2 total vegetarian days a week, 1 day with fish but rest veg and then 4 days where we have meat. Up until very recently, we would only eat red meat once a week, but I just read a few studies that all seem to confirm that the danger is not in red mea...

Latest polls show Sestak having an easier time with Toomey than Spector, at least according to KYW (news radio today here in philly area) but there are a lot undecided.

Sestak just took the lead as well, according to politico.

Re: Allowing "ritual nicking" of female genitals?

The AAP position paper gives evidence that outlawing/ outright banning has been successful; I believe they also give some European examples of this where Somalian immigrant communities have changed their ways because of outright banning. I haven't been able to read all the cited papers in full yet, ...

Well, as of right now it IS outright banned by federal law. They are asking for that law to be changed so that "ritual nicking" can be performed.

Allowing "ritual nicking" of female genitals?

The AAP has put out a new policy paper on Female Genital Cutting. The surprising section is the part where the AAP suggests that amending FGM laws to allow physicians to offer "ritual nicking" might bring down the number of girls subject to more severe forms of FGM. Here is the full PDF of...

I know this is a personal anecdote but I think of it whenever I see this argument. Re: Measles Resurgence Tied To Parents' Vaccine Fears

I read an article a few days back about the outbreak last year with those 12 measles cases in the San Diego area. They talked about a study that found that 40% of the parents at the practices they examined who had chosen not to vaccinate changed their minds after the measles outbreak. So maybe there...

Re: Measles Resurgence Tied To Parents' Vaccine Fears

The mumps outbreak is slowly moving towards us down here in southeastern PA...we can thank the nonvaxers for that one as well; it's true the vaccine for mumps is one of the weaker ones, but you don't get outbreaks like this without large pockets with low herd immunity, which is exactly where this mu...
