Re: Grenfell Tower Block Fire in London

This is only as stupid as the belief that the British government could successfully rehouse 100% of a large group of people in a week or less. Which is quite stupid, but not completely in defiance with all basic logic and experience. Only most of basic logic and experience. And guess what, that &qu...

Re: Grenfell Tower Block Fire in London

Back when I worked in the Chicago skyscrapers the policy was to evacuate the floor with a fire and the floors above and below, everyone else stay put. But those were buildings up to code, fully equipped with sprinklers, with fire doors and other fire barriers incorporated into the structure, and wi...

Re: General North Korea thread

I'm surprised they haven't declared war with Narnia yet.

But on a serious note, North Korea has a need to shake their rusty saber just to make sure we all know they have a rusty saber.

Re: Strategic Capabilities of IJN

Not likely. The inclusion of the heavy gun units would actually slow all of the carrier operations and give the Americans more chances to strike at them before they locate the American Carriers. Remember the Japanese are assuming that US Ships are not going to be in the Midway Islands area at the ou...

Re: Strategic Capabilities of IJN

Yammamoto hoped that he could at least capture the Hawaiian Islands or at least enough of them to hold hostage in negotiations with the US after the expected defeat of the US Carriers at Midway. He was hoping that without the carriers the US would be forced to pull their other heavy units out of Pea...

Re: Strategic Capabilities of IJN

The Yorktown was a ship that got listed as sunk by the Japanese several times including 3 times during the battle of Midway itself. Once as itself then as the Enterprise and finally as the Hornet(when the sub finally sunk it) so the Japanese went into the Guadacanal campaign assuming that they had a...

Re: Strategic Capabilities of IJN

Part of the plan included the taking of the islands and bringing more planes to make into an extra unsinkable aircraft carrier and then pouncing on the American Carriers when they storm out to take the islands back. Something they tended to overlook was any outcome of war games they didn't turn out ...

Re: Strategic Capabilities of IJN

The best place to start looking at the IJN and their performance in WW2 battles is http://www.combinedfleet.com and go through the information there. One of the best books on the Battle of Leyte Gulf that you really need to read is Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors but there are lots of books coveri...

Re: Strategic Capabilities of IJN

There is more to it as well. Due to training and production limitations, both the ships Shōkaku and Zuikaku were out of the action because both of their airwings were slaughtered at the Battle of Coral Sea(not only in the battle but in the failed night landing where most of the crews drowned). Shōka...

Is a collection of Star Wars Figures and Transformers considered art? Other then that I have a model of the Titanic and a needle point of it plus some Star Wars Posters in my room.

On a lighter note, Susie Madrak from Crooks and Liars offers this bit of insight : 2016, PLEASE don't take our next president. Please. It would really sadden us, you can't believe how badly.   Perhaps we can convince him to give a 3 hour speech in the rain and ignore his docto...

I have it build me a replacement screen for my laptop. Then set it to work covering the roof of my house with solar panels taken from NASA plans downloaded off of the internet. Get them to build me a car to make my life a little easier. Now I set it to work building me an life size Optimus Prime.

Re: Let's Play: Star Wars Rebellion

You have to really screw up to lose Coruscant when playing as the Empire against the computer. A Star Destroyer always on station with 12 - 24 squadrons of Tie fighters is usually more then enough. However don't get too confident and always keep 2 shields and a blaster on planet as well as a large g...

I like playing as the Rebels. Sometimes I can take over whole sectors without firing a shot, well other the sabotaging troops, and then crank up the rim snowball.

Re: Are demilitarizED military tanks and APCs unarmoured?

There are also times when the actual US military gets involved in a movie production, and one of the things they do is to operate actual military equipment used in such a production. Yes, Tora, Tora, Tora! is a good example. They not only used the real locations military personnel manned the navy s...
