Re: Nebulous Fleet Command
Yeah, I've done a few matches. Haven't really dug into it - I've mostly been running a single Alliance CL loaded up with an enormous quantity of expensive missiles and basically playing sniper, mostly. I've been reliably scratching more than my own points value, so that's something.

Re: Strange New Worlds (spoilers)
You can't both quote and spoiler-tag stuff in a single post; it's a bug with the forum software dating back at least a few years. The spoiler box won't open.

Re: Eckharts Ladder Star Wars lore
Bite Mark Analysis for one, but a surprisingly large number of forensics disciplines have been proven to be utterly worthless. Judges still accept rulings based on those discredited disciplines. They also continue to use case rulings even when the rulings were invalidated (Youngblood is a notorious...

Re: Lake Mead at "inactive pool" - Hoover Dam and climate change
Just to humor me, would you mind taking a stab at a numerical estimate? We can roll up all outdoor residential use if you like, that's probably easier to get data on. I think Jub did a better job of this than I could have. Thanks to Jub for doing the legwork. I'll admit that I suspected something l...

Re: Lake Mead at "inactive pool" - Hoover Dam and climate change
I'm curious; what percentage of the relevant area's water use do you think lawn sprinklers account for? Probably not that high compared to agricultural irrigation etc, but they're definitely a completely unnecessary use of the public water supply. Growing certain crops might be an unsustainably wat...

Re: 1.4 million New Yorkers behind on utility bills
I've always been of the opinion the utilities should be non-for-profit. Indeed. Why they should even be privatised is a big question, especially in an environment where a lack of heat in winter can prove fatal. Ideally it would all just be state run infrastructure. But I know that's politically unf...

new account as logged out and couldn't remember password and old email lost to me. But that crazy long string 'cheoose middle five chars' - well fuck anyone dyslexic or using a screen reader? It's (so far) always 15 characters; I find counting 5 in and then 5 more is easier. Hopefully that helps an...

Re: Questions about Halo MAC cannon recoil
It’s got to be up there! Are the shields physical, or some kind of exotic particle swirling around the ship that’s being held in place by some kind of energy? I mean, it's gotta be, right? The board is from 2003, IIRC; we could only have gotten a seventeen-year necro starting in 2020. Anyway. I don...

Re: Questions about Halo MAC cannon recoil
No. A MAC (Mass Acceleration Cannon) is just a more advanced and bigger version of a Railgun. It uses magnets to accelerate a projectile. So, basically the projectile is hovering inside the weapon, and accelerates through magnets. In the videos the Shockwave is the breaking of the sound barrier. An...

That's because Dragonlance is a pretty weird setting that hasn't been popular for decades, if ever. Eberron and FR are very much alive in current D&D, as far as I know.GuppyShark wrote: ↑2022-02-25 02:54pm Yeah, the D&D setting books seem unpopular. There's not even a Dragonlance book.

Re: The Influences on D&D... If Made Today
I think you probably don't get Vancian magic in a made-today D&D; maybe magic system looks like some weird mashup of the Dresden Files and Harry Potter, with a lot of willpower checks and focus instruments instead of defined spell levels and single-digit per-day casting limits. Dresden Files is...

Re: Echelons Above Corps
Perhaps 'Front' for your continental layer, since continents aren't necessarily going to be a useful concept for all deployments you'd need that size of force for? A swarm of orbital habitats or a very watery planet with lots of archipelagos, say. I agree about condensing the planetary and solar-sys...

Yes and no - my read is that fewer large units work better if you have Improved Logistics, since the can't-self-repair threshold is higher.

Re: STGOD 2020 OOC Thread
There's honestly not a lot else to spend the nation points on; System Defenses aren't very powerful vs. mobile units and the espionage stats are pretty fluffy. I did pick up some Logistics, but I wasn't sure how useful Salvage would turn out to be. Also, I didn't want to be the guy with the tiniest ...
