Re: How long would it take to get to the moon in an "emergen

That is true that it wasn't everyone, you(Simon_Jester) and some others didn't suggest simply nuking them but it was repeated so often that it pissed me off anyway. Also thanks for all of the help, stardestroyer.net forums people my ideas work much better when I discuss them.

Re: How long would it take to get to the moon in an "emergen

I have been updating my idea from the launch point of: there are aliens on the moon and we want to go visit them, so several of the ideas that I had in the beginning of this conversation, like them destroying probes are now off of the table. This is a chance for me to hear people's ideas for what wo...

Re: How long would it take to get to the moon in an "emergen

Haha! While I was writing this three more posts were made and I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one to like that cover the camera with a bag idea, and if the aliens do that people would be less likely to be freaked out by them. I sort of think that a chip bag might be funnier than a paper lunch ...

Re: How long would it take to get to the moon in an "emergen

So I have somehow lost the edit button on my last post so I am just adding this here: Also I really do appreciate all of the input that I have received. It has helped me come up with a plot beyond: first contact happens when aliens land on the moon. I have had to reevaluate how things are going to w...

Re: How long would it take to get to the moon in an "emergen

I enjoy a good: humans are the masters of war who can stomp anyone, including the super advanced aliens, story as much as anyone. That is not what this story is about though, I want a more peaceful first contact and am just not going to have us launch nukes at them. If you want to read that story wr...

Re: How long would it take to get to the moon in an "emergen

I'm invoking authorial powers, the Aliens have tech that prevents all damage from tiny humans trying to harm them and then turn around and wipe out the human race. Honestly I haven't really decided why they're there yet, and this is for a story that I am currently working on so.

Re: How long would it take to get to the moon in an "emergen

Coolness so it would be like why we want to send humans to Mars even though we already have a number of robots there then?

Re: How long would it take to get to the moon in an "emergen

Okay maybe not, what would you use for a manned mission to be a necessity. Edit: By this I mean I don't think anyone would want to read a story where humanity is wiped out over the course of a few days because the aliens aren't stupid enough to land on a hostile planet and they can't survive here an...

Re: How long would it take to get to the moon in an "emergen

So far it sounds like 18 months would be fast. Does anyone disagree? I've started writing already so that's why I need a hard number. I'd go with around 18 months simply because, while slightly more or less time might be possible/required, its a number which isn't likely to make any reader scream &...

Re: How long would it take to get to the moon in an "emergen

I've been trying to come up with a reason for the manned mission to be a necessity and have decided that humanity tries sending probes up but the aliens simply scrap them and use the raw materials for construction. They might also be stealing satellites out of orbit but are ignoring anything that ha...

Re: How long would it take to get to the moon in an "emergen

Why not re-purpose the space shuttles? They would not be able to make a landing on the moon, but strap enough rockets to them and they could certainly make the trip there and back. I am not sure that that would work even to get to the moon. However the whole point of the exercise is to get people o...

Re: How long would it take to get to the moon in an "emergen

It is part of a story that I'm planning to write which is why I'm putting it here. I'm not sure I was all that clear though, obviously we can have probes there soon and already have probes there now, but my question is how long it would take us to set up and then send a manned mission there. The ali...

How long would it take to get to the moon in an "emergency"

So aliens land on the moon and set up mining operations. We aren't receiving any messages from them but they are obviously there and don't look to be going anywhere. The governments of the world decide to go there and find out what the hell is happening. What is the minimum amount of time that it wo...

Re: Fanfiction.net: the good bits

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6517567/1/Harry_Potter_and_the_Temporal_Beacon This is a rather good Harry Potter fanfic in which Harry and Hermione create what is basically a save point and then stuff goes from there. It has the problems of Ron / Dumbledore bashing in comparatively small amounts and ha...

Re: Contract Law in a fantasy setting

Basically they just know the truth of everything so it is sort of handwaving a bit but if that is one of the assumptions, this works somewhat. The problem is that the truth god doesn't care what the oath that was broken was so its sort of like having an AI that only looked at whether the oath was br...

Re: Contract Law in a fantasy setting

It seems kind of funny to me that people have moved from fantasy to science fiction on this topic. However, I do have some ideas that might be of interest to people who are better at debate than I am. First a magical contract which can only be applied to a person who is speaks an oath. Second the pe...
