Re: Lloyd's of London bans drinking on the clock

I remember once taking a brewery tour around Prague and the tour guide was complaining bitterly that he had been banned from drinking until his final tour of the day after an 'incident'.

Re: U.K. police shoot assailant after gunfire heard near Parliament

In my own experience I haven't noticed any significant increase in anti-immigrant sentiment or racism. There have always been those elements just like any society, but I wouldn't say it's getting worse. It seems to suit certain politicians to talk this stuff up for their own ends - the far right hav...

Re: U.K. police shoot assailant after gunfire heard near Parliament

Channel 4 news, a generally well-respected broadcaster in the UK, already named the perpetrator as Abu Izzadeen, a hate preacher known to the police, before embarrassingly having to retract when it turned out that he is in fact currently in jail.

So yeah, it's probably best to wait.

Re: U.K. police shoot assailant after gunfire heard near Parliament

The BBC are reporting one dead and several hurt. A car ran down several people on Westminster bridge, the driver then attempted to enter the Houses of Parliament, leading to a police officer being stabbed and the assailant being shot dead. Scotland Yard are treating it as a terrorist incident 'until...

You see I clicked on this link to check up on MA:Andromeda but now I just want to talk about Beneath A Steel Sky being on 16 disks and how I tried to put an internal Hard Drive into my Amiga 1200 causing it to burn with the heat of a thousand suns. Also I really enjoyed ME 2 but it does have a fairl...

Re: Netflix- Marvel's Iron Fist *potential spoilers*

Seen the first three episodes. It's alright, it hasn't lost my interest as quickly as Luke Cage did.

Danny does come across a bit like a wealthy gap year student who won't shut up about his six months backpacking round the Far East but that has been on the right side of tolerable so far.

Re: Labour Loses One By-Election, Wins Other. Sky falling

I'm waiting to see how the Corbyn fanboys spin this one. I do feel rather sorry for Corbyn. I applaud the fact he want's to provide a really alternative with Labour to the Torys. He's rather got the odds stack against him considering Labour votes love him and Labour MPs hate him. It sticks in my cr...

Re: How would you do ROTJ differently?

The main improvements I would make would be to the first 30 minutes. The whole plan to rescue Han makes very little sense and is largely based on pure luck. I would rewrite it to involve the rebels using some kind of Ocean's 11-style heist - possibly masterminded by Lando as part of his redemption f...

Re: Any fan backlash against Rogue One anywhere yet? [SPOILERS]

The characters are all archetypes which is typical of a war movie, which this is. We don't reaĺly get to know all the characters beyond a few surface traits like 'this is the family man' or 'this is the malingering barrack-room lawyer that comes good'' in, say, Zulu or the Guns of Navarone. Jynn Ers...

Re: Amy Schumer to play Barbie in live-action film

I just wanna take a moment and comment how incredibly omni-competent Barbie the character is (Doctor-Astronaut-Dancer-Actor-Scientist. For starters. If you're given a choice between having all of Batman's skills and all of Barbie's, seriously consider Barbie's ), and how little the pop culture perc...

Re: Amy Schumer to play Barbie in live-action film

Unless I've somehow missed a beloved cult Barbie film starring John Belushi in the defining role of his career, I'm not sure what this has to do with Ghostbusters? I mean other than the fact that it sounds like they are treating the material in a tongue-in-cheek, 'Lego Movie' kind of a way, should I...

Re: Vetinari goes to Westeros.

Vetineri has first hand knowledge of all kinds of supernatural/magical creatures and forces so is far more likely than anyone in Westeros to take the threat from north of the wall seriously. Dragons and ice zombies wanting to destroy his city is basically a typical Tuesday for him. So from that poin...

Re: Logan (third Wolverine movie) trailer is out

I don't think it's actually possible to stitch together a coherent narrative from these films by this point. It's probably best to see each one after the first three as a standalone in it's own continuity.

I don't think he would be that disoriented. There are TONS of human inhabited worlds of various tech levels that have never heard of the imperium being discovered all the time even in the current time period of 40k - what with being cut off by warp storms, never rediscovered by the Great Crusade, or...

Re: Fallout 4... is coming (10 Nov 2015)

That's disappointing. That pretty much kills off the Skyrim remaster as far as I am concerned. There's no point rebuying something I have already sunk so many hours into unless it is offering something substantially different. Also raises serious doubts about the future viability of the Playstation ...

Re: You get wrapped up in a Lovecraft story(RAR)

Lovecraft does sort of undermine himself a bit by presenting more than one non-human species in his stories that have managed to contain or hold their own against the more alien cosmic abominations by virtue of having a better understanding and more advanced science than humans. It suggests that hum...

This thing might be useful in very specific circumstances, on roads specially designed for it, with other traffic that is specially restricted to work around it. I can't see it working in many places in Europe due to narrow, curving roads, roundabouts, pedestrians being used to crossing the street w...

Why was Harley in the squad, she isnt a meta human... shes a crazy with a baseball bat. Out of the whole squad, only Diablo and maybe Killer Croc could in any way be described as metahuman. The others (apart from Deadshot because of his unique skills) were all of extremely debatable value compared ...

The Martians are demonstrated in the book to be highly intelligent, learning quickly from their mistakes. Eg after losing a couple of tripods to concealed artillery, they retreat and rearm themselves with a more suitable weapon, and methodically bombarding any possible cover with poison gas when the...

I'll get around to watching this at some point. Really have to pick and choose when you have an 8 month old baby. My main concern with the concept is the door it will open to endless lazy copy-cat gender swapped remakes, many of which will be of very poor quality... Eh, Sturgeon's law. 90% of every...

Re: New Suicide Squad trailer

Saw this last night and I would have to concur with the bulk of the reviews. It's a total mess of bad editing, sloppy storytelling and uneven tone, partially salvaged by a couple of decent movie star performances. Sadly, I think there was probably a much more coherent film here before a panicking st...

Leadsom has pulled out after literally days of too much media scrutiny for her tastes. So basically it turns out as a coronation for May. Next on the 'great clusterfuck of 2016' agenda: should we have a general election? May would be crazy not to take advantage whilst Labour are still in such disarr...
