Re: electronic implants and death

Okay, now imagine that the whole organic matter in a body of a person is replaced by nanites and the information saved into these nanites are copied into another body build out of nanites. The original body build out of nanites is regarded as the same person it once was. But what is with the body bu...

electronic implants and death

Imagine, in a future not far away, mankind has the technology to replace brain cells with nanites. Those nanintes are able to take over all the functions of the brain cell they replace. For all the surrounding cells, all the cells that interacted with the replaced cell, there is no difference....

Re: On the Futility of Conservatism.

To me it seems as if you admit that there are no people who are generally opposed to changes - only opposed to changes in certain aspects while they want changes in other aspects. There were those who wanted to change the laws when they did not allow same-sex marriages. And now, as the laws we...

Re: On the Futility of Conservatism.

I may be not as eloquent as you. But I would say that it is is a universal constant of reality, that there are forces who strive for a change of the status quo and forces who will strive for keeping the status quo. Both forces are necessary as a never changing world would mean stagnancy but an...

Do you believe that all Americans have the right to vote? Do you believe in a free press? Do you believe in a seperation of church and state? Do you believe in an independent judiciary? Do you believe in independant law enforcment? Do you believe that everyone has the right to due process? Do you b...

Re: Orbital bombardments, planetary defenses, Death Stars, etc.

I said that the weapons on the Dreadnought are almost certainly just scaled up turbolasers That's only an assumption. But even if, it explains why the weapons of the Dreadnought could cause an higher level of destruction than the turbo lasers used in the episode of rebels. That means that the level...

With other words: You could provide only two examples I only need two examples. Not if you want to prove that what was shown in the what was shown in the episode of Rebels is inconsistent with with other orbital bombardments depicted in the same universe. Consistency is per definition the quality o...

1. He could only provide two examples because very few exist. 2. He included all of the qualifiers you saw fit to nitpick with. 3. Operation Cinder is canon, which you would know if you had the slightest ability to do research. 4. Given the satellites were launched in masse from a single star destr...

Re: Orbital bombardments, planetary defenses, Death Stars, etc.

Oh I'm totally with you on the orbital bombardment in Rebels-we could do worse than that in World War 1 With DET-weapons? From thousands kilometres away? That is very clearly not what he meant. But that is the point. Of course we could achieve an higher level of destruction already in World War 1. ...

Re: Orbital bombardments, planetary defenses, Death Stars, etc.

Really, no matter what you say the bombardment scene from Rebels was just fucking stupid, since even modern day civilization could do better if we were in space. Just dropping some meter long rods of steel or tungsten would have created more impressive cratering. So maybe I'm just being overly gene...

Maybe it has something to do with what is argued and described here: https://forum.questionablequesting.com/threads/what-killed-mike-wongs-stardestroyer-net.5417/ For those of you who dont know, SDN was once SBs younger rival, before SV. Re: Maximum range of turbolasers (Last Jedi spoilers)

I am not sure why people are putting forward mass drivers as an explanation of why the Supremacy's fire arcs. A mass driver in a vacuum goes in a straight line too. Would it appear so if all ships are accelerating? In space, a ship would hold its velocity and could deactivate its engines. It needs ...

Do we really know that Barclay's apartment is in San Francisco?

With a matter-energy transporter or air tram, he could live everywhere on Earth and commute every day to San Francisco.

Winter came. The temperature dropped. Maybe they considered it too cold for horses further north - beyond the wall - during night. Re: Breathable atmo in CIS vessels...

I'd argue that this couldn't have been vacuum as we could see the beam of their lamps. That's a level of astrographic detail that is pernicketty beyond reason. By that standard, Star Wars planets are really dim on the surface and the stars really weak because we can see stars from orbital positions...

B1 battle droids can operate in space fine. This is shown in Clone Wars. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLU6kM9KNCA I'd argue that this couldn't have been vacuum as we could see the beam of their lamps. Maybe the droids are needing some kind of atmosphere for their cooling. The atmosphere could be ...
