Re: Federal Law Enforcement Use Unmarked Vehicles To Grab Protesters Off Portland Streets
Please post evidence of that, GAF. From what I can see in the news and on social media, other than the top brass the military seems to be pretty okay with how things are developing.

Re: Star Trek Lower Deck - the new ship
My first thought was that it could comfortably fit in the background at Wolf359. My second was that it was an homage to the Explodium Oberth class. If the nacelles looked just a bit more like hilighter pens, it would be perfect.

Re: RLM/Plinkett Review of Star Trek: Picard
The amount audiences care about CGI quality is inversely proportional to the audience's investment to the story. If TPM were better written, most complaints about its non-story elements would be mere quips instead.

Re: What is the current power level of the Necrons?
Thanks for responding, and in so much depth. I really enjoyed reading that write-up. Has much of the War in Heaven background changed to accommodate the Newcron retcon? From older descriptions ("aeons passed", etc.) it seems like the Necrons were active clients for the C'Tan for even longe...

What is the current power level of the Necrons?
I was reading through old versus threads, where the Necrons could defeat the Galactic Empire handily, when I came across a thread from after the 5th edition codex dropped. The 5th edition codex stripped the Necrons of their ftl and most space assets, neutered the C'Tan, and reduced the threat of Nec...

Re: CMV: mass shootings are essential to the continuation of American culture
I'm not arguing with your bigger picture, but a "home invasion" is not the same thing as a burglary, which is a term still used. "Home invasion" is typically used when criminals break into a home while the inhabitants are present and tend to target them to some degree as opposed ...

Re: Trump tells minority Congresswomen to "go back where they came from"
I'm at a loss as to what Straha is trying to accomplish. If Trump is not an aberration, does that mean we shouldn't step up defense against institutionalized racism? We should just react as if Obama were still in the White House? If perfect is the enemy of good, and America will never be perfect, we...

So mods, could we maybe not have every single thread where someone says something mildly positive about Trump turn into a multi-post screed about the fake progressives that TRR thinks have infested the forum? Please? To be fair, the forum is a shit show, and it is full of bizarrely anti-anti-Trump ...

Re: Poll: Young adults grow uneasier with LGBTQ
Do you think it's reasonable to expect everyone to go through so many steps so quickly to assess a potentially dangerous situation? It sounds to me like even you understand that your reactions are not typical and should not be considered representative of the population at large. Perhaps it would he...

Jub, how does the victim know while the man is charging her that he will not actually touch her? Should she not be afraid until the second physical contact is made? Does the fact that the rape threat did not become actual rape negate the terror she experienced while he was charging her in imitation ...

He did more than wear a gimp suit. He approached people and got in their faces while rubbing his groin and making aggressive noises. If a man in a business suit did that, his victims would also be traumatized. Should we outlaw business suits? And for the record, I am against publicly wearing most fe...

The photos I saw showed a dog with docked ears and maybe a docked tail. That strikes me as something the Federation would have a problem with.

I'd also point out that there are several non-human species in the Federation who are identical to humans. We have no idea how well or poorly integrated they are because we can't spot them in the background.

Re: How integrated is the Federation?
The post-Nemesis novels explore this theme a lot. The Titan is specifically designed to house as many types of non-humanoids as possible, and the Athene Donald is made up of scientists from many species and polities, even the Tzenkethi. In the Department of Temporal Investigations eshorts, we briefl...

Please. There is such a thing as consensus. "Everyone" agrees that Battlefield Earth is a bad movie and that Shawshank Redemption is a good movie. Do outliers who disagree exist? Yes, but that doesn't change the fact that we can make meaningful statements such as "Battlefield Earth is...

Re: The prequel hatedom needs to go die in a fire
As for there being no such things as classics...what? Disney is making billions on the fact that there are classics. Most franchises around today are just flesh built around the skeletons of classics. Children today still love Star Wars, Star Trek, Superman, Batman, Scooby Doo, Pokemon, Godzilla, an...

Re: The prequel hatedom needs to go die in a fire
The box office numbers suggest that a large portion of the general public enjoyed the Prequels, even if, as noted, they don't care enough to talk about it at length on-line. I tend to see the hate as coming more from a mix of die-hard OT fans with rose-tinted glasses and built-up expectations, and ...

Oh dear.

Re: Game of Thrones petitions and Star Wars trolls? Fans have become far too entitled
Just to reiterate, I think you have a real problem with fandom and Star Wars. When Toy Story 4 comes out, I doubt you will complain or even notice how much it "caters to the die hards" by taking continuity seriously. The idea that a film in a series can either respect the previous installm...

The sad fact is that Solo was a better film that TFA (what isn't?) but TFA made so much money that it destroyed any hope of objectivity among executives when it comes to SW's next step. Then you have the double-backlash to TLJ* killing Solo in a way that muddied the waters beyond hope of recovery, ...

There was no first order, no Snoke, no Canto Bight, and Anakin Skywalker was an adult pilot when he met Obiwan. However, Thrawn was real, there are giants on (the forest moon of) Endor, and one time a shuttle full of tourists helped destroy a Death Star.

1. Agreed. 2. They have transporters and replicators. We never see them take full advantage of those technologies, either. For some reason, the Federation prefers to do things in a suboptimal way. I mean, they should be able to build ships with the push of a button. One of the writers even acknowled...

Re: Does space dock even make sense?
I thought the 150 worlds only referenced the home worlds of member races. There are plenty of tiny little colonies we see onscreen. The Crystalline Entity would have been a bigger deal if it was harvesting 1/150th of the Federation at a time every other year. As for why they don't build orbital ring...
