Re: Star Trek: Discovery
I haven't posted here in years and I am logging back in just to say that the opinion expressed in the above post is dumb as hell. All you're saying is that you were fine with the half dozen Maguffins mentioned above but this one somehow crosses a line. Yeah, it does cross the line and it's entirely...

Re: Star Trek: Discovery
I don't see how that tiny bomb is going to trigger a giant water-magma vaporization reaction. Genesis did a lot more with roughly the same amount of stuff - and that's only 20 odd years in the future. Then you have that (urgh) 'cold fusion bomb' they had in Into Darkness which exploded and... froze...

Re: When should we arrive at our midnight IMAX Watchmen show?
Since Watchmen will most likely be replacing the dud that was the Jonas Brothers' concert film in your local IMAX screen, you'd probably be able to waltz right in and get the seats you want close to 4 hours in advance. Should you come that early? not unless you want to catch up on your reading or pl...

The older it is the more likely this is to happen. I had a 93 Plymouth minivan that I locked the keys in at the post office one time. A woman driving a 94 Dodge Neon (another Chrysler product) offered to let my try using her key to open the door. It worked. Apparently, Chrysler had only bothered to ...

Maybe its just because I've given up on reading the letters to the editor in my local paper, but it seems like people around here are remarkably non bitchy on this subject. Within 2 miles of my house is the 30 acre cattle farm I live on (and my family has owned for 120 years), another 30 acre farm m...

Hmm, the change in captioning probably has to do with how Regal does things everywhere else. The one I work at projects the captions directly onto the screen using a small, secondary digital projector, and they only do it in one theater for one movie (changes every week) because people who aren't de...

Not naturally evolved, but in the book 'The Ghost Brigades' by John Scalzi, there are a group of heavily genetically modified human soldiers created to survive unaided in asteroid belts and planetary ring systems. They sort of look like turtles, have large photosynthetic patches and an internal wast...

The job of the service rep is to act as the face and voice of the company. WOng said it best: You can't talk to the president of the company, so this is the best you have. Most people in the service sector don't see themselves as the public face of a corporation, they see themselves as the guy who ...

No it's not the service rep's fault, but the service rep is the face of the company, so they're as logical a choice to get pissed at as any other. See, the problem is this. Let me ask all the people who feel justified being a dick to the low wage call center staffer or cashier due to the company th...

One of my cousins once spent an exciting night on top of that big sea stack on Ruby Beach. You can't see in the photos, but there are actually quite large drift logs on top of it, and he just about learned first hand how they got there when he decided to camp on a rock that is cut off from land exce...

And you dont think throwing a bone to folk inclined to blow shit up and riot to get their own way is perhaps a very fucking poor idea? Did I say it was good? No. Honestly I think that a much more effective way to combat religious fundamentalism of any stripe would be to do what the US and Australia...

Ya know, I was thinking about this a couple days ago, and it seems that such a small number is actually quite likely due to the policies enforced by the Jedi in the millennium before the prequels. By taking Force sensitive individuals at birth, discouraging or outright forbidding family contact, and...

I dont think you realize just what Sharia actually is. Sharia is the judicial interpretation of the Koran, it is not only a complete legal system but also dictates how a persons life shall be lived and it tolerates no others. I know well enough what it is, and I also have a level of reading compreh...

Um, maybe I'm an idiot, but I think its pretty clear that the Archbishop did not mean that the Muslim population should be able to set up there own complete legal system. The example given of the Orthodox Jewish courts suggests that they are only used for rather minor civil matters, and any violent ...

I Am Legend (Spoilers)
Saw it tonight (yay screening prints for work). Haven't read the book or seen the other versions of the story, so I can't really compare it to those. my feelings regarding the trailers were mostly confirmed in regards to them giving way to much away, although they did manage to leave some rather sig...
