Re: Rome 2 Total war Faction preview

Yeah, those chariots sure are overpowered. Same with the artillery, one shot sent a whole cohort flying around like bowling pins. As for the capture points, I'll reserve judgement till I can see first-hand how they work in-game. Probably should work to counter the old strategy of sitting your Sparta...

Re: DW S34E7: Nightmare in Silver

Is it just me or was there a major Warhammer 40,000 vibe in this episode? I mean with the planet destruction device and the venerated space emperor I was getting a pretty big feel for it.

Re: "Cloud Atlas" Trailer Out

I read the book a couple of times a looong time ago.

I know some of the basic plot, but I don't remember a post-apocalyptic future.

Or explosions.

Re: Engineering question [Discworld related]

I think the premise with the glass clock was that it was supposed to be sort of "like" a digital or atomic clock in its extreme precision, hence the need for outright magical components given the context of technology on the Discworld. IIRC it was meant to measure the Discworld equivalent...

but if you used a dropping weight for the power source, yeah. laser cut glass parts. no big problem.

Engineering question [Discworld related]

So, in the Discworld book Thief of Time the plot revolves around a clock made entirely out of glass. Is making such a clock actually possible in the real world? I mean, could it actually tell time and work much as a normal mechanical clock?

Re: Avatarverse - A Look at the whole story

Er, the Fire Nation under Ozai weren't the good guys by any stretch of the imagination. They started a hundred-year war with an unprovoked genocidal attack, and planned another genocide to cap it off. There is no evidence in favour of the idea that the spirits were using bending to socially control ...

Re: Swarm in the Somme - Alternate History Dot Com story

In what way does this qualify as alternate history? In the same way as Cowboys vs Aliens, more or less. The story is in the Alternate History boards, subsection "Alien Space Bats" AKA Fanfiction & Random Nonsense, such as Sauron of Mordor invades the Holy Roman Empire. Man, that site ...

Where Tolerance Meets Stupidity

Posted here because it seems to fit. I have discovered a truly hideous corner of the internet, a blog run by a sociopath, for sociopaths: [redacted] Three things about that horrid little site shock and offend me beyond all words: 1. Re: Crusader Kings II?

So, I've downloaded the demo and I've noticed a funky thing happening. I'm not sure if it is due to A) my computer, B) the demo just being shitty, or C) possible graphics issues with the game itself (I really doubt it is C, though). Anyway, the most annoying thing is that the borders (the hashed re...

Debating a Pacifist

So, as it turns out, on another site I'm debating a really hard-core pacifist. One of those 'don't lift a finger to protect others or yourself' people. She essentially sees all war as evil, regardless of result or motive. So, I'm wondering, can you help me prove her wrong? I'd especially like histor...

Which of these five ideas would you most like me to use for an original novel? I don't know whether to post this in User Fiction or Off-Topic, so if it's in the wrong place move it. Re: Sisters of Battle (40K) Question

I'd say bending that rule, with a relatively weaker daemon that was once human, might actually be a better idea than formally stating "yes, she killed a daemon prince." The former, at most, would violate a somewhat obscure rule which is totally irrelevant if this isn't for publication and...
