Essential Bantam-era EU?

I've recently decided to start reading the original, "Legends" EU, largely because since it's now non-canon it can no longer be fucked with (although as I understand it a lot of fuckery has already happened.) I bought the Heir to the Empire trilogy at a thrift store and am enjoying it so f...

Re: Why Has Namor Been Forsaken?

Maybe introduce him as the antagonist in a Hulk solo movie. There could be some interesting interplay between the two, with them both being seen as freaks and as a threat to humanity but with very different attitudes on how to deal with that (one wants to conquer the surface world while the other ju...

Re: Pirate Bay: Now imposible to destroy

Are we being glad piracy is an ever-growing industry now? Or are we so stupid we think something being impossible to achieve will prevent any draconian laws to try? The former. Often the only way to obtain works that the rights-holder neglects to release legitimately is through piracy, and those wo...

Re: The Amazing Spider-Man: Trailer #2

The suit still looks awful.

The rest of the movie shows promise, though. Looks like this'll be more of a reboot in the sense of "we're just going to tell a new Spider-Man story without clinging to the details of the Raimi movies" rather than focusing on the origin story a second time.

Re: Avengers II

I think in Captain America they just stuck with vibranium only for Cap's shield to keep from being too confusing. They got Hugh Jackman to do a cameo so not sure the adamantium thing would have been off limits. Not that anyone really knew what adamantium was in 1941. It didn't make a reappearance i...

Re: Avengers II

Ultron would be an obvious member of the Avengers rogue's gallery to use. You could even have him introduced in one of the other "feeder" movies, get defeated, and come back as Ultron-2, now with 100% more adamantium. I doubt that that would work for a mass-market audience -- too much rep...

(why never mortal kombat why?) Because, realistically, if the World Warriors found out that they were about to fight someone who's previous matches typically ended with them ripping their opponent's head out of their bodies with the spine still attached their reaction would be to shit their pants a...

Re: The problem with RPGs

I'm not sure whether the "cut scene" or "in game (Half Life 2)" methods are better; the in game method is pretty damn clunky, the Half Life 2 lab expository dump was extremely painful and kind of SOD ruining. Why not do the Half Life 1 method and have a story that's actually sui...

Re: Dalek Exterminator Gun

Even within the show's chronology, it's often argued that the first shots of the Time War were fired by the Fourth Doctor at the moment of the Daleks' creation, meaning that the Daleks have been fighting the Time War for their entire history.

Re: Revisiting Old Doctor Who: The Original Pilot

The Doctor was also more of an asshole (even by early Hartnell-era standards) in the pilot. Most of his lines were the same, but the tone of the delivery was significantly different.

Re: News on Doctor Who series 7 and the 50th anniversary spe

OldWho episodes were also half as long as NuWho ones (with the exception of Colin Baker's first year, but it only had 13 episodes.) When Christmas specials are factored in, NuWho has more actual screen-time per year than any season of OldWho from the '70s onward.

Re: News on Doctor Who series 7 and the 50th anniversary spe

Sylvester McCoy could probably show up again without too much explanation (his hair is a little greyer and his wrinkles a little deeper, but he still looks basically the same as he did during his original run.) Tom Baker and Peter Davison woud be a bit more difficult, as their ageing is far more obv...

Re: Possible Doctor Who feature film?

The problem with a Doctor Who movie is that the DW premise is heavily tailored towards episodic storytelling. After all, what's the point of having a box that can travel anywhere in space and time if you're only going to use it for a single, two-hour adventure, with any further adventures (if the mo...
