Re: Avengers: Infinity War (massive spoilers!)
It was a good movie on its own and a good first part of a story. A true 'Empire Strikes Back' moment.

I seem to remember rumblings that the third book would see the two human nations find themselves both under attack by a higher-tech NONHUMAN dimensional civilization. Would be interesting if there's a world with bloodthirsty Neanderthals.

I think there's some misunderstanding. Ascension was a 6-hour 'miniseries', and unless things go very well for it the network doesn't intend to make it into a regular series.
I'm enjoying it on my DVR, 2 episodes left.

I'm rereading Shadow of Freedom right now, its funny to read Rajani suggest that they might be able to deplete the Manticoran missile supplies by simply throwing thousands of SDs at Manticore. Very Zap Brannigan-esque.

One comment I wanted to make about the Mesan FTL systems is that there are TWO of them. The Streak drive is not the high-band drive, but it doesn't break the hyper wall in a severe fashion, so it doesn't register on sensors. In addition to the streak drive, Mesans ALSO have conventional sail/wedge s...

Re: The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug DVD (spoilers, obviously
In some of the Histories of Middle Earth, it is stated that a force of elves from Lothlorien and Mirkwood attacked the tower of the Necromancer in a pretty big battle during the events of The Hobbit. I think that is going to be shown in the movie. Is that what's shown at the :40 mark in the new tra...

Re: The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug DVD (spoilers, obviously
I also really wonder where they're going with the whole Necromancer plot line. We get it... Sauron is returning. But, that really has nothing to do with anything right now, so who cares? Any references to the events of LOTR should have been nothing more than a brief line here or there from Gandalf....

Its' Thursday night was $11.2 million, 10% higher than Winter Soldier. Won't know for sure til Monday but I think it is going to have the biggest opening of the year. The movie is phenomenal from title sequence to after-credit scene.

I felt Nic picked Harry because: 1. Harry had the strength and speed. 2. Harry was immune to cold. 3. Harry could open a Way. 4. Harry was familiar with Chicago, which is where the Way needed to be opened. 5. He was weak enough that Nicodemus thought he could take him physically. 6. He was moral eno...
