Re: Does Barclay belong in Starfleet?

[ Barclay didn't fail only through luck and author fiat and we are aware of it only in hindsight, he should not have been in the situation where he could have failed and endangered lives. He was not reliable, he should not have been put in a situation where someone would have to rely on him based u...

Re: Resource War

Were are you getting the idea that Tibanna gas is so very important from? AFAIK it doesn't magically increase the amount of energy you pump into it. That all comes from the power generators. Every source I can recall has it separate from the power supplier. Blasters have tibanna and power packs prov...

Re: Does Barclay belong in Starfleet?

His problem wasn't he was non-military, it was he was non-professional, did not have the fortitude to handle the situation, he was out of his element, he had problems that could be detrimental to his job especially in stressful situations. We don't know how many of those situations he was personall...

Hypermatter. It's not just for hyperdrive, it's all power generation.

Other forms of guns and medicine are available. But you need power above all else.

Re: Does Barclay belong in Starfleet?

How many life or death situations happened while Barclay was on this ship? Say nearly every episode from Hollow Pursuits through to Generations? How often did he fuck up and destroy/endanger the ship by being 'non-military'? Never. As far as we know, aside from some interpersonal issues, that he wor...

Re: How does Rogue One efect the vs debate

The Alliance is small. Those may have been anti-ship bombs, simply because any anti-infantry bombs they could afford were halfway across the galaxy. And yes, I am explaining the lack of massive firepower. It is an accepted fact that Star Wars weapons deal damage on a nuclear scale. Is there anythin...

Re: How does Rogue One efect the vs debate

That seems to me to be working from the assumption of massive firepower and trying to explain why it didn't appear, than analysing what we actually see happen.

They weren't trying to damage the base. They were trying to kill the people. They failed despite handing hits right next to them.

Re: Does Barclay belong in Starfleet?

I don't see any evidence Barclay was a hindrance to the ship. Aside from that one time he took it over but that was a plot of the week that could happen to anyone. No reason he shouldn't be in Starfleet. I think it's a good example of their non-military-ness working for them. They're happy to find s...

Yes, and? I agree with this position of theirs in isolation but it's part of a wider policy of xenophobic isolationism that I don't agree with. Just because they don't explicitly link it to immigration themselves doesn't change that.

Re: Theresa May calls snap General Election for June 8th

Why for the wrong reasons? Nuttall has the same reasons for saying it as Corbyn did. Either they are both wrong or they are both right. Because Nuttal's probably doing it to reinforce the 'foreigners and immigration and muslims are so terrible it shouldn"t be allowed' narrative. Which Corbyn i...

Re: Death Squadron in the Milky Way(RAR)

Canon is the films and the CGI Cartoons. (And possibly books published post-Disney) that's it. I thought we'd established this was Legends by now. Legends is better written (on average). If it's up for debate, I vote for Legends. Early WEG stuff was pure gold. They totally understood the idea of &q...

Re: Game of Thrones season seven trailer.

Knowing George RR Martin, I wouldn't be surprised if it all ends in utter death and destruction, with Westeros eventually being nothing but ruins as the White Walkers kill everyone. I don't think Dany and Jon MIGHT be able to ally with each other against the White Walkers, but this isn't that kind ...

Re: Democrats backing away from gun control

Admittedly it's harder to do culturally in America. Which is the whole point. I'm not saying nobody can control guns anywhere or in America at any point in time. I'm saying that today and for the foreseeable future I'm the US, it's a lost cause in an obvious way. Fair point. There is a lot of money...

Re: Democrats backing away from gun control

Gun-related deaths can be addressed separately from gun ownership. Having a gun is a lot different from actually shooting somebody, which is still illegal under most circumstances. It's really hard to shoot someone without a gun. So if they're not going to control the guns, what policy would they p...
