Re: Strange New Worlds (spoilers)
Voyager is something of an outlier with Harry Kim essentially pulling the same duty as Data, but on a smaller ship... that's where I think some Captain's prerogative comes in. Janeway COULD have potentially had a Science Officer on the bridge, but she didn't need one. Janeway WAS a science officer ...

Re: Why are all ship captains always literal captains?
This came up previously in the alien captains thread. and what I said at the time. Pretty similar to Gandalf's logic I think. You make a valid point though. Just strikes me as really really odd. Gives you the odd situation where a full Lieutenant as Security Chief on a Galaxy might actually be respo...

Re: Strange New Worlds (spoilers)
Though it does make me wish for longer seasons. The short seasons are absolutely the weakest point of SNW at the moment. Not just in an 'I want more way' but the speed of the subplots, such as Chapel/Spock getting together having two episodes of being bombard with problems then splitting comes off ...

Re: Strange New Worlds (spoilers)
So moving onwards, Episode 9, the episode where music is used to close down existing character subplots. Using musical to force the crew to reveal their feels is a time honoured tradition for musical episodes, it kind of feels a little cheap to end things like Chapel/Spock like this. It's another si...

Re: Strange New Worlds (spoilers)
Did I in fact make that claim? No, I did not. It's your perogative not to care and if you want to talk about some other aspect of the episode, which you don't seem to have done so far, feel fucking free. Who said I was talking to you in the first place, jackass? The fact you quoted me, jackass? No-...

Re: Strange New Worlds (spoilers)
Episode 8 released on Thursday when episode 7 should have been released so it looks they've all been moved up a slot. And boy was it a dark episode. A ptsd story with flashbacks to the klingon War from disco s1. (curiously lacking in any disco iconography, costumes or props aside from a clip in the ...

Re: Strange New Worlds (spoilers)
I suspect, especially from relooking at the trailers recently, that either episode 8 or 10 are going to be more very grim, Gorn related aliens knockoff episodes. So the lightness of 7 and 9 is to counteract that.
Just speculation though.

Re: Strange New Worlds (spoilers)
Since I don't know where it's out early and where it isn't Put my thoughts in a spoiler tag. So I gave in and watched it early. it's fine, it's one of those episodes I liked and enjoyed despite myself. It's 40 minutes of fluff, references, fanboying/fangirl. It's also 1/10 of this season and it's an...

Re: Strange New Worlds (spoilers)
I find it impossible to actually dislike Kirk or Alt!Kirk in either of his guest appearances this season but it is odd to me they are leaning so heavily on using him as prominent guest star when any of their main cast could do with the exposure and screen time. His conversation with La'an was a high...

That was a repeat visit and a Vulcan moon respectively. So Strange, yes, but not new was my thinking.

There isn't words in Vulcan for "swirly thing alert" that's their problem.
eta: Also, I don't think Strange New Worlds has actually visited any strange new worlds yet this season.

Re: Strange New Worlds (spoilers)
Eh, it really didn't land with me with the focus on social awkwardness and cringe comedy. The Chapel plot was fine until the end but them going that far, well, they may pull back on it later but in TOS, was there indication chapel's feelings were reciprocated and it wasn't just her crushing on Spock...

Re: Strange New Worlds (spoilers)
I apologize for spoilers once again. Had no intention of that. Also apologies again, I meant that somewhat facetiously, it didn't translate through online text. Oh no worries on either account. I shouldn't have been snippy about it. I apologise. I only brought it up again because bilateralrope asked.

Re: Strange New Worlds (spoilers)
Latest episode thoughts: it was very standalone even by SNW standards and that's just fine. It moves well and uses it's gimmick to reveal the core of it's character. Pike is still a leader who cares about his men, M'Benga a doctor and Ortegas an instinctive pilot. That's fine, it's entertaining but ...

Re: Marvel's Secret Invasion (spoilers)
Half way through. It's just grim and unentertaining. People keep telling Fury and Talos how much they suck. They even tell each other how much they suck. They also repeatedly talk about Fury's going away after the blip and Fury just has no reaction and nothing interesting to say about it. They are t...

Re: Star Trek: Prodigy (New Series)
I mean it's all a matter of personal opinion. But no. PIC S3 is not up there with the best of Star Trek it's got no legs to stand on apart from Nostalgia and call backs. Was it fun to see all the TNG cast back? Yes? Did they do anything remotely new, interesting, or meaningful now? Sure, there's no...

Re: Star Trek: Prodigy (New Series)
And after the disappointing emptiness of Picard S3, I'd much rather have the 32nd century as the hub for stories going on than more of Matalas' Pic stuff. If I don't ever have to acknowledge the Enterprise-G and Ensign Crusher again I'll be much happier. PIC S3 was up there with some of the very be...
