Re: CNN: US stores are closing at an epic pace

There's more than just E-stores like Amazon hitting these retailers. The purchase power for the average household has dropped to the point where there just isn't the money to go to stores.

Re: Time's Rites (Doctor Who/The Dresden Files).

I choked on what I had been about to say. It wasn't just what the Doctor had said, though that was bad enough- it was the completely blaze way that he had said it, as if whole regions of the planet just blowing up was all in a day's work for him. Blaze is a fire. Blaisé is when world-ending crises ...

Can you scrape it and just redo the smeared section? Yes. I just had to set it aside for a while before I could go back and take a penknife to it. It's fixed now. Pics will be up later. :) Now, I have 3 local Baronial Award scrolls on my plate. Thank the gods I spent a few days over the winter maki...

I wish you didn't live in Europe. Shipping costs and getting that across borders would make it too expensive to buy.

Re: St Petersburg metro explosion suspect believed to have 'radical Islamist' links

St Petersburg attack: What we know A bomb in a train in the Russian city of St Petersburg killed 14 people and injured 51 others on Monday. A suspect has been identified as Akbarzhon Jalilov, a naturalised Russian national born in Kyrgyzstan in 1995, according to Russian and Kyrgyz officials. How d...

Re: Trump Dump: Foreign Policy (Thread I)

On top of sheer impracticality, a good reason for the DPRK to conquer the ROK eludes me. Even if they magically don't level the place driving through it, and have enough of the People's Army left over that they can effectively control right up to the shorelines, what then? It's a fuckton more mouth...

Re: The Thirteenth Tribe (nBSG/SG Crossover)

Actually, sod it. Zeus, Prometheus etc aren't names but titles/ranks/jobs within the Ancient/Lantean society. Hence, Zeus is top dog, Hephaestus builds things, Demeter is in charge of food production, Aries is the General, Apollo is a pilot, Aphrodite is the Team Stress Reliever and so on. As for t...

Ghost in the Shell LiveMovie

I got to see the early-viewing tonight, and I have to admit I was impressed. In a way, the movie is a new Ghost in a very familiar Shell. While we see all of the clips from the trailer, and all the other famous scenes are lifted from the Original in beautiful homage, the story is wholly new. This wo...

Re: The Thirteenth Tribe (nBSG/SG Crossover)

Nitpick: Stargates have nine chevrons not seven albeit only seven are used in normal operations. The physical description of the device would note nine. Red chevrons and the closeness of a Ha'tak suggests SG-1 rather than an Atlantis team. I wonder how a puddlejumper would war against vipers or rai...

Re: The Thirteenth Tribe (nBSG/SG Crossover)

Is Adama Senior's nickname "Hold My Beer" now? An FTL jump that low (assuming Galactica pulled it off, instead of ka-fricking-boom) would be damn near (if not actually) suicidal. In fairness, Galactica did exactly that in the series, from an even lower altitude, in Exodus part 2. I think ...

Kong in Skull Island is around 100 feet tall. The Jaegers are around 270 feet tall. Goji2014 is More like 340 feet tall. None of them are matched evenly for this setup. Once again, Kong in Skull Island is "Still Growing". By the time of PacRim, he'd have had 40-50yrs growth, and may have ...
