Re: B.C. courts questioning polygamy laws
What, don't tell me you are neither for nor against polygamy? How do you manage to stay neutral about such a polarizing issue? I'm not actually neutral. However, I didn't feel the need to share my opinion in delivering a piece of news I found interesting. Since you asked, personally I would prefer ...

B.C. courts questioning polygamy laws
Link Mon Nov 22, 12:25 AM By James Keller, The Canadian Press VANCOUVER - A court in British Columbia will begin hearings Monday as it tackles a question that has been lingering over a small commune in southeastern British Columbia for nearly two decades: Is polygamy a crime, or is it a sacred reli...

Re: Jury Duty Time
I had to serve jury duty a few years ago in Buffalo NY. The courthouse jury waiting area was large enough and had noticeably comfy chairs and had decent TV entertainment. I had to wait for a half hour and then we got told that we weren't needed anymore (I believe the defendant did a plea bargon or s...

Re: Sci-Fi Power Scale
There no winning this one is there. :) All right Ill keep the info I can gather on each important item i can as a reference but there is no way I can truly combine all that into a single chart. Maybe I will eventually post the multitude of files in one public location for public consumption and comp...

Re: Sci-Fi Power Scale
I don't expect the final product to be consistent, and what you have here is a portend of things to come. Ok I'm listening. Let's take ground power (average) and make the units consistent. Star Wars: 800 MW (assuming 1 shot per second. source: my ass) Star Trek: 1.05 MW (The Mind's Eye) Real Life: ...

Re: Sci-Fi Power Scale
It does work like that you imbecile. Moreau, Nemo, Cavor operate within a Victorian tech base. While their inventions are amazing they are still limited by that base. Moreau gets fairly limited anesthesia for example. Cavor doesn't benefit from a modern tracking network. What is the Space Combat Ra...

Re: Sci-Fi Power Scale
Babylon 5 should be above star trek. they have superior FTL engines, the mimbari have insane weapon power levels, the vorlons got mini death stars. plus it all takes place close to the present then star trek, so you got to give them points for advancing fast. I'm not too sure about that according t...

Re: Sci-Fi Power Scale
Did you really expect a half finished chunk of notes to fully consistent yet, did you? Its only the bloody citation and category list. Hell I barely had time to make the speed lists consistent with each other let alone anything else.

Re: Sci-Fi Power Scale
Alright I am halfway done with the version 2 of the chart and the revisions and citations. Is there any good way to show a spreadsheet on SDN because damned if trying to replicate it with text is a bitch and a half. Mind you now that the version 2 revisions are... A. No longer contains a semi arbitr...

Re: Sci-Fi Power Scale
OK...then are you suggesting some kind of order of magnitude scale or some kind of logarithmic one? If a logarithmic one what ratio do you then suggest? Tho in retrospect an OOM scale might be better for quick reference at least for space and ground combat. Industrial output would need some kind of ...

Re: Anti - Cap Ship Fighter Weapons
Why not make smaller "true" attack bombers and use big swarms of them? How much smaller are we talking about here because a one point you would be off using the small strike bombers like the K-Wing and Tie Bomber or fighter-bombers like the Y-Wing and X-Wing An ISD is a kilometer or more ...

Re: Sci-Fi Power Scale
I really don't see how such a list could ever be resolved. There are multi page threads between different scenarios of two universes, how could you ever resolve a scale of all of them, or even all the popular ones? Just as a personal example, I thought Weber's Dahak series was hot stuff and posted ...

Re: Sci-Fi Power Scale
If The Culture rocks in at 100 where do Xeelee, Eddorians and the 'sublimed' of the culture series go? Also, where do low tech SF socieities go, eg Drake's The General series, where the most advanced peice of tech is the still experimental internal combustion engine? Lack of knowledge on them force...

Re: Anti - Cap Ship Fighter Weapons
Well in this case in the anti-cap ship weapon thread, I want them to be hunting capital ships. So in this case I believe they need the payload. Considering that in the clone wars the Y-Wing was built and used as a general purpose bomber that most bombers like it are little different in purpose.

Re: Sci-Fi Power Scale
Yes, as a general rule 40K verse can deliver more firepower and take more abuse. I thought that the consensus was that SW ships were about 1/10 the size of W40s and had similar firepower and damage of their class, while having far longer range? Speaking of which, how does weapon range factor into t...

As I very much assume you mean nBSG when you say BSG you might want to clarify the poll. In fact you might want to clarify the poll period given that oBSG, SG, Trek AND Wars if taken as a whole include factions that could laugh off the best efforts of the centered on factions without noticing. Wars...
