I agree with Steve's comments earlier about Zaheer being the most rounded villain so far.
I love Amon. He's my favorite villain of the entire franchise and nothing will change that.
But I'll admit the Equalists' failings in their execution and characterization.

Re: Legend of Korra Book 3 Talkback - "Changes" (Spoilers)
The Red Lotus really should've studied their history. The last time somebody tried to artificially trigger the Avatar State...well, we all remember the ATLA Book 2 premiere. If a garrison of Earth Kingdom soldiers couldn't handle it, what made Zaheer think he and a handful of followers could do it. ...

Yeah, Bumi's combat pragmatism makes sense.
And it also makes sense that Zaheer's no match for Tenzin because he's only got a month of Airbending experience under his belt.

Re: Legend of Korra Book 3 Talkback - "Changes" (Spoilers)
I'm not really shocked that they got away with the Earth Queen's death.
Remember, the censors didn't stop them from having Tarrlok blow himself and Noatak to kingdom come two years ago.
Why, then, should they bat an eye at death by Airbending asphyxiation?

Re: Legend of Korra Book 3 Talkback - "Changes" (Spoilers)
Yeah, it's kind of a continuation of what Amon was talking about in Book 1 about technology leveling the field between benders and non-benders. The advancement of technology and resulting globalization means that the old borders don't make sense or don't work anymore. What worked in Aang's era doesn...

Re: Legend of Korra Book 3 Talkback - "Changes" (Spoilers)
The total collapse of the Earth Kingdom would be a nice callback to the end of ATLA's second season and bring a sense of full-circle. And yeah, I'm probably reaching when it comes to Amon having links to the RL. Trying to tie every plot element to a single conspiracy doesn't always work (ex. Jasmine...

Re: Legend of Korra Book 3 Talkback - "Changes" (Spoilers)
IIRC, I think the creators stated that each book was going to be its own self-contained arc while building on the previous year's developments.
So, there goes my theory.
It's almost like an animated BTVS in a way, which is fine.

Re: Legend of Korra Book 3 Talkback - "Changes" (Spoilers)
Yeah, I figured most of what he was saying was true barring a white lie here or there. My best bud and I have a joint theory that the White Lotus is going to get wiped before the season finale. If you think about, TLOK's myth arc has been the transition of the old ATLA world into a brave new world a...

Re: Legend of Korra Book 3 Talkback - "Changes" (Spoilers)
Something about the Unalaq reveal is bugging me. If Unalaq screwed over Zaheer and company, why didn't they play stool pigeon? Why did they keep silent when they could've tipped off the White Lotus that they had a traitor in the North? Best guess I can think of is that they thought he would still be...

Re: Legend of Korra Book 3 Talkback - "Changes" (Spoilers)
It cracks me up (in a black comedy way) that Unalaq screwed over his co-conspirators. Even dead, Unalaq's managed to beat Ozai in terms of the number of people he's used, betrayed, and discarded. And given the Unalaq reveal, my best bud and I are wondering if Amon and the Equalists had links to the ...

Re: Legend of Korra Book 3 Talkback - "Changes" (Spoilers)
I find it curious that Zaheer was still trying to capture Korra alive. It undermines my theory from a few pages back. She'd be too old to brainwash/mold. And if they wanted to get the next Earth Kingdom Avatar, then they should've just tranquilized her, slit her throat, and then gotten the hell out ...

Yeah, it was filler, but decent character development for Tenzin and Bumi.Steve wrote:On the one hand, the diversion in Episode 7 might seem to detract from the main storyline. OTOH... it was an excellent episode and Book 3 continus to be the best one yet
And this is the best season since Book One.

It's been nice to see Lin's backstory finally fleshed out over the last two weeks.

Re: Legend of Korra Book 3 Talkback - "Changes" (Spoilers)
Yeah.
If they killed Korra, the Queen would have had a one-man army ready for grooming appear in the Earth Kingdom.
It would have been the perfect general to lead an army to retake the lost territories.

Re: Legend of Korra Book 3 Talkback - "Changes" (Spoilers)
My guess is they were kept alive in order for the White Lotus to figure out why they went after Korra. My best bud has a theory that Team Zaheer's mission was to kill Korra under orders from the Earth Queen. The next phase of the Cycle would have gone to the Earth Kingdom. And we know the Queen want...

Re: Legend of Korra Book 3 Talkback - "Changes" (Spoilers)
One of my friends pointed out something interesting about Opal and Suyin. Suyin's refusing to allow her daughter to go with Korra. She keeps saying Opal has everything she needs and is taken care of in Metal City. In short, it's Toph and her relationship with her parents all over again. Of course, S...

Re: Legend of Korra Book 3 Talkback - "Changes" (Spoilers)
Okay, that's a more valid example.
I am loving Zaheer as a villain. You can't beat Amon, but I love how they're pulling off an 'evil' Airbender.
And Steve's right about Book Three being stronger. With all these plotlines and traveling, it reminds me of ATLA's Book Two.

Re: Legend of Korra Book 3 Talkback - "Changes" (Spoilers)
Yeah, that makes sense.
It's like everybody having to readjust to fighting people with Jedi abilities during the post-ROTJ stories.
I really want to know what the hell Zaheer's plan was for kidnapping the young Korra.

Re: What Are You Reading Right Now 2.0
Currently working my way through the Hand of Thrawn duology. I realized that I've never actually read both books all the way through; I've only skimmed parts. It's interesting to go back to this point in the Expanded Universe -- to the pre-Yuuzhan Vong era and while Luke's New Jedi Order was so small.

Re: Legend of Korra Book 3 Trailer is up!
It's possible. If I were in Aang's position, however, I would have completely dismantled the Dai Li for good. They did significant damage to the fight against the Fire Nation. They were more focused on controlling Ba Sing Se than in prosecuting the War. And then there's their culpability in the fall...

Re: Legend of Korra Book 3 Trailer is up!
Given how much I loved the Ba Sing Se arc from the original series, I'm very keen on the Dai Li's apparent return. You'd think Kuei and Aang would have made sure that the secret police were disbanded and imprisoned after they betrayed the Earth Kingdom. But perhaps some of them got away or it's a Ne...

So finally saw it.
It looks...alright, but just feels like a step backwards after the Nolan trilogy.
The TDK suit is still my favorite Bat suit, live-action or otherwise.

Oh, fuck.
So, we've lost Eddie Valiant (Bob Hoskins) and the definitive voice of Alfred Pennyworth all in one week.
