Re: Game of Thrones Season 6 [Discussion of most-recently aired episodes]
I mean, the show SEEMS to be implying that whatever Arya is doing now is exactly what the Faceless Men wanted her to do, anyway. What exactly that entails is unclear. The show has been rather frustratingly silent on exposition regarding the Faceless Men. I got the impression they wanted her to A) a...

"So, my check said I need a 60% deposit. If go for something more expensive, that means I'll be paying less?" "...no ma'am. It'll still be 60%" "Sure, sure, but if instead I went for a more expensive choice, than that 60% would be lower?" "Sorry, no, it would be 60...

Windows 10 installed itself on my PC last week, whilst I had nipped out to the shops. I am informed that my printer is not supported, and no new drivers will be forthcoming. Thanks Microsoft.

Re: New Ghost Busters reboot trailer
The trailer was mediocre. That said, I think some of the jokes they showed may be funnier with proper build-up and timing, the ectoplasm-puke in particular, so if the trailer mercilessly cut periods of no dialogue, it could be the jokes are funnier. Or it just could be the direct has no sense of com...
Re: Deadpool
i had to snicker a bit at parents who drug their kids out during the show due to blood, tits, and dirty jokes. what the hell were they expecting? hadn't they seen any of the trailers? this is not your normal family friendly superhero, and because of that, it's awesome. My favourite part was the mot...

Re: Best Science Fiction film of 2015.
Whilst I think Mad Max is the best film of the year, I think it would be unfair to say it's the best sci-fi movie of the year - the sci fi in it was pretty minimal, and it was a chase/action movie. TFA was a great experience, but I think it will suffer in retrospect as, as much as I love it, it real...

I just wonder why they'd leave the spitting dinosaur thing the ability to spit goop but maybe they didn't consider it too much of a threat if one escaped unless you were trapped by it and that would be unlikely to happen on a populated island with a security force. Explained in the novel - they did...

Re: THE OotS Thread, Part IV.
That said, I'm not sure this is so much a case where Durkula would benefit from Durkon's memories, unless maybe Belkar can somehow use the Ring of Jumping or another magic item to avoid death. Canonically, the Jump skill can reduce falling damage, but not by nearly enough to significantly reduce th...

Displaying that curious inability to link together memories and learn something new? Also, terribly sloppy of Durkula to throw an adventurer out a window and just presume him dead. Clearly he hasn't been paying all that much attention to Durkon's memories.

I'd be very in favour of paying them more but banning them from second jobs. If an MP is doing his job properly, it's a hell of a commitment and I don't begrudge them earning a commensurate salary. Reminds me of what Douglas Adams said about rhino poachers. If you pay the poacher enough that he doe...

I would blockade them long enough for their sentries to get bored, then sneak in one night with ship's boats and a raiding crew and cut out their pickets (assuming they've made some attempts to block the twin entrances to the bay) and sacrifice a few vessels to send is as fireships. This is assuming...

Well, ok Vlad Dracula. The son. Similar use of terror tactics.
Of course, Vlad was educated in warfare by his enemies, whereas Ramsay was by.... Locke? A hunter.

As my friend Alex put it "Maybe they could pay it back in the form of a percentage of their monthly pay, and it could be set up so it just gets taken out of their pay every time, like a kind of pay-as-you-earn thing. Oh my mistake, that's how tax already works . Or were they just looking to add...

To make matters worse some influential people in the Conservative party think that Jobseekers Allowance should be treated like a loan to be paid when the claimant gets a job. This is to give them more incentive though what benefit there is to giving someone who's already trying their best more ince...

I really liked the scene. It genuinely upset me, because unlike all the other characters who died, it wasn't utterly blatantly obvious what would happen. I couldn't quite bring myself to believe that Stannis would do it, or that the show would do it. Kerry Ingram and Stephen Dillane both really sold...

Could be leather thonging, to attatch to the jerkin, getting snug fit. Not sure why, but they seem to prefer it tight. Perhaps so it's not flapping about in those blizzard winds?
Still, fairly light leather armour would protect against sharpened obsidian, I'd imagine.
