Re: Sorry deadpool Ryan Reynolds X Mens Wolverine Avengers unite Disney Fox close acquisition deal
I would say this is almost the perfect time for the deal to close. With Infinity War going on (and presumably the second movie still available for extra shooting and editing), we have a reality warping villain who can easily merge the universes together, or create the environment needed for the muta...

Re: Pre-industrial Fantasy STGOD OOC/Rules Thread:
Are there still openings for this? It seems like most of Texas and Mexico are open and I had an interesting idea for a cabal of mages seeking to jumpstart the development of mankind with some not so nice experiments, which they use as the backbone of their military while pushing the envelope for mor...

Re: Situation in Paris
My condolences to those who've been affected by these attacks. On a somewhat selfish note I was supposed to be in Paris last night too. I was in Japan and was supposed to fly back via air France with an overnight layover in Paris. I'm sure I wouldn't have been in the middle of the attacks but damn i...

Actually it's worse hp wise if the strip follows 3.5 rules completely as no undead except for those with specific feats or being a dry lich get charisma to hp. they do get their hit dice converted to d12s so he could theoretically come out with the same or more hp assuming his original con was no mo...

Re: Bill passed in California to stop make Vaccinations mand
I'm of two minds. I don't like the idea of people getting religious exemptions to public safety. Especially when it involves the health of children. But I am also very skeptical of laws forcing people to accept medical procedures under most circumstances. Especially because, hard-line anti-vaccine ...

Bill passed in California to make Vaccinations mandatory
I wonder what's in the air this week to make all these good laws come popping out. California lawmakers on Thursday approved one of the toughest mandatory vaccination requirements in the nation, moving to end exemptions from state immunization laws based on religious or other personal beliefs. The ...

Re: FFXIV: Heavensward
No you can't. You have to get into Ishgard to get the new classes, and you can't get into Ishgard until you clear the other content. It makes sense, storywise, but can leave you frustrated if you want to play as the new classes immediately.

Re: FFXIV: Heavensward
It'll likely be more like 51 or 52 before you hit the expansion to be honest... there's a LOT of previously "end-game" content you'll clear before hitting heavensward.

Re: FFXIV: Heavensward
I'm enjoying it so far... though it did take me most of the weekend to grind through the content to get to Heavensward though. On the plus side, they provided better gear and made it easier to get there, and I got to enjoy most of the story even as I powered through the actual fighting and quests. L...

Re: Fallout 4... is coming (31 Dec 2015)
See this for an idea of what the setting of Fallout is about. I know what retrofuturism is, and barring a good reason for it (like Cylons in nBSG causing a huge regression in computers and especially networked computers, meaning going back to pen and paper, and having massive spaceships with virtua...

Re: For those sick of all the "police are assholes" threads
News is supposed to inform people yes, but it doesn't have to inform them of negative information only. I agree with you that it should stimulate discourse and inform, but it's not meant to always show where society goes wrong. It can also be used to show where society is getting it right, and ther...

Re: For those sick of all the "police are assholes" threads
In the words of Chris Rock "what do you want, a cookie?" Doing good things is expected of any right-thinking citizen. It should not deserve special mention. Why shouldn't it? We give special mention to murders of all kinds, kidnappings, and other crimes. Even if the crime is completed, th...

Re: Chicago police keep black site in Chicago, torture
I was reading that myself and was thinking of posting it... This kinda shit is just beyond the pale, and one reason we need to have more visibility in departments like this. When either one subset of a department goes rogue and everyone looks the other way, or worse, it's organized from the top, it ...

Re: For those sick of all the "police are assholes" threads
There's a time for recognising that, but it is not the news. Otherwise nobody would find the important issues. Police shooting people is obviously important. Police delivering sandwiches does not matter at all to the wider populace. To me that seems to be more of an indictment against society that ...

Re: For those sick of all the "police are assholes" threads
In a civilized country, we expect the police to be better people than us and set a positive example for the rest of society to follow. And in many places this is true, they'll volunteer at charity events, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, school events and various other community functions. It's no...

Re: For those sick of all the "police are assholes" threads
Millions of people give to charity and help out. The Salvation Army has 1.5 million members in total worldwide and helps 32 million people in the US alone each year. And they are just one organization. One pretty typical German organization (again, just one of many) has 60k members and helps provid...

Re: For those sick of all the "police are assholes" threads
I agree. But last time I checked "providing food for poor children who may not have enough to eat" isn't part of the police's daily job. It would be awesome if it were, but it isn't. In that case, it is no different than what millions of people do each day. So millions of people take time...
