Re: Theresa May calls snap General Election for June 8th

What do you think Germany's position is going to be on English refugees? Well, IIRC the EU's current stance, that they will welcome British people to move to the EU post Brexit. Especially if they are highly educated. Of course, we'll see how the talks will go on it too. Oh and finally the banking ...

Re: google hit with record fine by EU

I never understood what the problem was of Windows coming with IE, that was like criticising a car company of using its own brand of engine. Microsoft responded to that charge by creating a browser choice tool, for those users seemingly incapable of installing the likes of Firefox on their own :lol...

Re: Theresa May calls snap General Election for June 8th

- the government party running one of the worst campaigns in history I trimmed it to this one because I find it the most interesting detail. I can't for the life of me work out why they called the election years before it was necessary if the candidate was going to be nigh-invisible anyway. It's no...

What? No. OpenSSL has a handful of developers and is badly underfunded. The company, yes, but I meant a lot of programmers I know tend to look at source code of things they work with or similar to their projects as hobby or means of learning. OpenSSL's code is not something people will look for to ...

Also why not just cut her up for salvage? Cutting her up in place, half-submerged, risks spilling crap into the sea that will be very bad for the local sea life. They still have booms in place to guard against things like fuel and oil leaks, but remember how huge the ship is. Just the on-board cont...

I'm not entirely sold on the notion that Fukushima was somehow entirely a produce of irresponsibility and gross negligence. Yes, it was an old and dated design, there were problems, but at least some of them were a legacy of being a relatively early design. Absolutely we can and do build them bette...

Yeah, I would imagine that there'd at least be some forward-thinking modern banks amongst the bewildering number around in the USA. Most likely the bigger banks don't care about it (if it works, why fix it? Better squeeze the customers more mentality) and the smaller ones don't have the resources t...

Also, Benedict antipope? Seriously? We got these only because grand powers of the day were willing to invest political capital into one to get their own Church figurehead, plus, in these days some cardinals were men of the kings, so you could get some of them to stand behind your antipope. What sta...

Not much with the Red Sludge. Finest parts of the cleanup never been attempted by the government so all the dredged hazmat from the river Marcal has been sitting on the riverbank last summer and the sides of Route 8 around Devecser had a distinct reddish color. Otherwise a hugeass dam has been built...

I suggest puppy linux. Boots from a CD, and is able to operate on a very wide variety of graphics cards. Booting from a CD is less useful on an EEEpc which doesn't have a CD drive... Yeah, it's effects supposed to be mostly gone, except the limited amount of fallout. As far as I know, y...

Could it be said that people are better with basic resources, but lousy the more layers you stack onto it? For example, if a hunter-gatherer tracks a deer, I figure he knows exactly how much food that represents. It's a direct relationship between the size of the animal and his awareness of how muc...

Do other royal families still do this much? I admit I only really ever see the House Windsor in the news, but I wonder about the rest. What, for example, does the Japanese imperial family do with their time? Since their political situation isn't even remotely comparable, who cares? You might as wel...

You can argue that they were killed for the cause, not just for the sheer thrill of it. Now that the cause is dead and RAF itself gone, they have no actual reason to go back killing people. EDIT: Also "you have served your sentence, so we have to let you go" does not mean that the security services ...

Yes, because that is so equivalent to murder of an accredited ambassador. I am sorry, but that somehow fails to impress me as an argument, particularly when the idea of sanctity of the lives of emissaries dates back to Hammurabi (or possibly before Sargon), and was merely codified at Vienna. Oh, th...

Sort of both, but I just find the current example ridiculously audacious. It's as if they expect the western countries not to know Hungarian. They practically ignore the outside reactions of their actions and abuse the IMF's and the EU's pretty mandatory apolitical standpoints. This is rather damni...
