Re: Be Careful What You Wish For (Nalifan)

That's a hell of an update.

You might want to add a line about the King of Tribes getting a new horse, seeing as his horse was a dissolving corpse at the end of the last update.

Re: UK Working Poor to be classed as "Not Working Enough"

Excuse me, I see the problem. You're using a technical term in a technically precise sense, one which unfortunately makes the term useless for normal people by excluding an important idea. At least, I assume you are using the term in a precise way- though I find it inexplicable that in economics &q...

Alyrium, I believe "covering the uninsured" refers to people who don't pay their bills, not that people aren't billed.

Re: The Hunted (nBSG)

I believe there was an Aliens Technical Manual which explained that their form of FTL involved inverse relativistic effects. So, while to the outside world it would appear that the Sulaco traveled for only a few weeks, the interior of the ship experienced many years. Some of the Star Wars reference ...

Valkyrie image bow See those six black dots, three each to the right and left of her nose? I said to myself, Arminas, damn, if those don't look like old fashioned torpedo tubes. So, that's what they are. Not wet-navy torps, of course, but horizontal missile launchers for anti-ship missiles. Her dor...

The Haditha is an Arleigh Burke--class destroyer, designed to operate in an asymmetric environment just off the coast of a hostile or potentially-hostile territory.
It's not a modern navy joke without poking fun at the Littoral Combat Ship.

Re: StarDestroyer.Net will turn 10 years old on July 2, 2012

I was 16. I don't remember exactly when I found the site, but somehow through some Star Wars related Internet searches I found Wong's fan fictions. I remember I read the site pretty religiously for a period of time, but it took me a while to make my way to the forums. And even then, I just stalked ...

Although occasionally criticized for being too free with their certifications, the Marine Stewardship Council at least seems like a reasonable attempt at identifying sustainable fisheries and communicating that information to consumers. I'd hesitate before buying any fish product that lacks the MSC ...

When I saw your sig I thought at first I was looking at the GTCv Chimera (from a mod for FreeSpace 2), which in my mind at least is a favorable comparison. Looks like Kenny_10_Bellys is saturating this thread with good advice so I won't throw in my 2 cents, but I like what you've created so far.

Re: Wireless Networks

Have you tried seeing if you get a better signal with the tower in the same room as the router? If your reception is still bad at close range with no obstructions, then chances are you either need to change a setting (don't know the model, so I can't be specific), (re)install the latest driver, or y...

Don't read too much into it. There's a lot of different ways for a drive to fail, and bad luck with drive life hits everyone eventually.

Re: The Adventures Of Starbuck. (Updated 01-26-2012)

I like the prologue. Without it, I wouldn't have bothered finishing chapter 1. I'm sure you've read just as much fanfic as I have, and knew you were info-dumping in Chapter 1 but wanted to get that info out of the way since so much of it is unexpected, and quite meaningful to any reader likely to ac...

A lot of what you guys are describing as a better sort of space shooter sounds like Shattered Horizon, which I would like to see redone with better weapons and controls.

Re: Spayce Shotters: Is the genre back?

I was a little buzzed when I wrote the above, but I think I was trying to say that I just don't see what I actually like about the mechanics of old space shooters over the mechanics of an FPS - I strongly suspect the main reason I still play these types of games is nostalgia. As to WC:Prophecy, I ha...

I've found this conversation enlightening, since my experience so far has only been with 4E, SAGA, and (recently) oWoD Vampire. With all this talk of "if you insist on using DnD" though, I want to ask those more experienced - what system does what DnD does, but better? The Storyteller syst...

Re: Spayce Shotters: Is the genre back?

Tried to edit, ran out of time. Anyway, I wouldn't ever expect traditional space shooters to "come back." The only advantage a space shooter has over a ground-based FPS is the third dimension, and the average gamer always thought Descent was a confusing mess. Now, if someone could somehow ...

Somehow I think SOL looks like it could easily degenerate into a bullshit mess of spreadsheets like X3. Evochron is the X3 wannabe - it's actually just the latest (2010) in a series that's been around for two decades and hardly anyone has played... presumably because by all accounts it isn't very g...

For a 4e oneshot, I made a level 3 Seeker who threw an enchanted greatsword. It wasn't game breaking, but it's far more damage per round than a controller is supposed to be doing at that level.

The Iranian Press TV is claiming it was knocked down by the Iran Army's electronic warfare unit. Now that's interesting. EW seems like an obvious weakness of the drone concept, but I'm not aware of any instances where this weakness has been successfully exploited. I guess it remains to be seen whet...

I recall in elementary school they briefly tried adding little cubes of green bell pepper along with the pepperoni. The number of packed lunches on Pizza Thursdays skyrocketed immediately, and a week or two later the dreaded vegetables were gone.
