Re: ghost busters reboot with female cast
I'm sorry, I don't know what you mean. All I said was that I don't like the way they're posed in the photo. I don't see why this implies that the film will be more or less comical than if they were standing differently. Googling "Ghostbusters publicity photo" gives me a lot of posed shots ...

Re: ghost busters reboot with female cast
The poses are too ... posed? They're trying too hard to be cool or edgy, and it's not working for me. The look of the characters, the costumes and the car, though, that's all fine. I'll just need to see how the film works out.

Re: So I've started reading Gaunts Ghost Omnibus
The downside of 40k including so many Inquisition-protagonist stories is that it dilutes the reality of the Inquisition for other people living in the Imperium. The Inquisition fucks almost everyone it comes into contact with. In the words of one Commissar, "Bribery and threats are popular met...

Re: Opening Crawl and Standalone Movies: Yay or Nay?
Production company splash screens are just there so I can open my sweets and drinks before the film begins. The presence or otherwise of tinkerbell, the Disney castle, the Fox logo or a Lucasfilm logo has no bearing on my enjoyment of the film.
The opening crawl, however ... keep that.

I don't get why you guys are so fixated on Lady. Didn't she basically appeared in just one book, then had cameo in another, being one of least consequential characters in the whole series? Aren't there over dozen more important to plot gods? Hell, even CMOT was more influential overall than she was...

Re: Colour of Magic - My introduction into Discworld
The Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic are fantasy pastiches that parody a lot of other fantasy- for example, the characters of Bravd and the Weasel are a straight lift from Leiber's Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser. For someone who's already read a fair amount of mid-20th century fantasy and is fam...

Yeah, and then there is the fucking airports they use - somewhere in the ass end of nowhere and of course you got to pay extra to get there. Yeah, you just got to love "Munich West" which in reality is Memminger Berg where cattle grazes peacefully between the landing strip and the ramshac...

Do taxis in your areas charge by time? The black cabs here (and in London, I think), charge mainly by distance, with an additional time-based component when the taxi is stationary.

I can't believe that the thread's gone on this long without a mention of The World at War . I'd second that. Apart from anything else, you get episodes about civilian life during wartime in America, Britain, Germany and Japan, not just another documentary about Pearl Harbour, the Manhattan Project ...

Re: Jonathon Nolan is adapting Foundation.
I thought the villain in I, Robot was not so much breaking the laws (in its mind) as reinterpreting them. Ie kill a few humans to impose a new society that will save lives. That's why I said it's idiotic. But not totally contrary to the source material; it's an idea Asimov himself used, when he inv...

The Fury interceptor is explicitly described as being unable to noticeably damage 40k capital ships (and is "100 paces" long, IIRC), but how do they compare to Federation ships? The lascannon used by infantry can drop the void shields and power shields which protect titans. I think the gun...
