Re: MWO video discussion
It was sort of the first in the series as they used the engine for the Earth Defense Force games where you fight on foot or in vehicles against giant monsters so it's a bit rougher looking with only a few enemies running around.

Re: Mammoth Mk III VS Baneblade
If you want to get pedantic, all the 'quoted' calibres in Gundam are pretty dodgey; '280mm' bazookas look more than a meter wide and the like. Most of the stats for Mobile Suits aside from their sizes were made up to conform to contemporary military weapons of the time as a way of separating the se...

Re: Mammoth Mk III VS Baneblade
Better bring in the ground assault type Guntank, which can use its extra tank in the front to run over Magellas which might weigh as much as it does.

Re: Mammoth Mk III VS Baneblade
The Guntank always managed to make its way back up onto a low hovering White Base on just those four little jets under its tank base. The upper half even had its own escape jets to allow the Core Fighter to undock without the mobile cranes inside a hangar.

The joke (beyond the general one) is that they don't understand that there are no shields in BT because the engine is incapable of representing them. They're fen say some mechs have shields or shield like feature but this has no mechanics! Or course it doesn't - the game uses an angle and position ...

You guys want some exciting standing on a mountain while shooting lasers wallpaper action :> If they do MW4 style again it won't completely suck, but then i'm counting on a mass exodus of old time fans. Fuck em. They revealed that the Mechlab had the old slot based weapon mounting scheme so I'm sure...

Newsletter update
I think I'll need to upgrade before I can play this but did anyone here try to get invited to the closed beta? I must know if they really did just make Mechwarrior 4 again.

I wouldn't trust Gainax's numbers on anything because they are notorious for being a bunch of mismanaging embezzlers but anyways :v It is generally said that Evangelion helped kick off the plastic girl figure market. It was around the time when manufacturing technology for mass release merchandise w...

Re: MWO video discussion
I was rooting through some old stuff and I found some fold out key guides to a few PC games. One was for DID's F-22 Air Dominance Fighter game, which like most flight sims has a button to do all the important things. I also found the one for Mechwarrior 3 which was almost as big as the F-22's guide....

Re: Chuck keeps abreast of Ghost in the Shell
not to mention those don't rely on the audience knowing the fine details of japanese culture like some other anime do. Oh you'd think that. I dunno much about CB, but the GITS movie has always been kind of emptier without the context of when it was made and who made it. Its common sci-fi themes (an...

Re: Starship Troopers Remake in planning.
Both the CG cartoon and the OVA were more or less coming of age stories. The OVA in particular omits the politics almost entirely.

Chuck keeps abreast of Ghost in the Shell
http://sfdebris.com/videos/animation/ghostintheshell.asp Not his strongest review, but I do appreciate his honesty about not being really equipped for this subject. I liked his overall conclusion that the movie is "thin yet confusing." Kinda sums up the whole phenomenon surrounding it. Alt...

Re: Starship Troopers Remake in planning.
Yeah that one from 1985 is the cover for the Japanese release. There was also some low run model kits of the design that some fans produced. One was built and painted for Joe Hadelman.

Re: Starship Troopers Remake in planning.
Besides, there's already been a decent version of the book, in anime Sure Juan "Johnny" Rico was blonde (and white yet again), but atleast they had powered armour. That OVA wasn't that great honestly. It was mostly done as an anniversary project for the book (or I think the Japanese relea...

Re: Star Wars games today.
Yeah the buzz droids were pretty stupid padding for that scene. They could have done something equally cinematic with less "here's a toy you need to buy" overtones. Regardless we're heading into the issue that Star Wars combat was only intended for short length battles that are part of an ...

Re: Star Wars games today.
There's some funny scaling going on there too. Those walkers look gigantic compared to the X-wings. The real problem is just how the gameplay always boils down to slowing yourself enough so you can ping enemies enough times with your pew pews. The infamous Sullust level is just that magnified to its...
