Re: Doctor Who: Pond Life (Prequel to Series 7)
Because that is the way the story was conceived and written. And therefore initial conception of a fictional series is set in stone, immutable, and changing it in any way a terrible sin? Because I seem to recall Star Trek being written and conceived a certain way by a certain man, and once he was o...

Re: Doctor Who: Pond Life (Prequel to Series 7)
You know dick about me, so don't assume things. Then tell me why . It's infuriating to ask "Why can't we get a female Doctor?" and be met with a resounding "Because!" and not much else. The reason I cannot see a female doctor is simply because the dynamic of the show has always ...

Re: Doctor Who: Pond Life (Prequel to Series 7)
Eleven men have played the role. Is it too much to ask for one, just one woman to have a shot at being a universe saving time travelling alien genius? Positive role models are good for girls as well as guys.Eternal_Freedom wrote: However, I'm sorry but I just do not see why the character has to become female.

Re: Doctor Who: Pond Life (Prequel to Series 7)
Ok, I'll concede that point. But I still consider that it would be out of character for the Doctor to decide to become female. You woudl have to spend a huge amount of time settign up such a choice, at which point the show becomes a look at the mindset of a transsexual, which is no doubt worthwhile...

Re: Doctor Who: Pond Life (Prequel to Series 7)
The Doctor is a character, not a profession. Its not sexist for a male character to stay male.  Hey, Matt? You're not an actor, you're a time travelling alien. No, really, playing the Doctor on television isn't a job. Not at all. And refusing a woman the chance to portray an iconic and h...

Re: Doctor Who Asylum of the Daleks [spoilers]
So why is it that one Dalek has to have the Doctor shove his face in front of its eyestalk and tell it to identify him, (and said Dalek was wide awake), yet a bunch of catatonic powered down coma Daleks not looking at anything are suddenly able to know the Doctor is in the house? Did they smell him?

Re: Doctor Who: Pond Life (Prequel to Series 7)
That's a rather different issue. We're talking about swapping a character's gender, not racial equality. THere's no physical difference between races, but there is a big difference between men and women. I fail to see your point here. Men and women are different, so a shape-shifting alien cannot po...

Sorry, I just cannot see a female astronaut either. Sorry, I just cannot see a female fire-fighter either. Hey, all you women out there! You're o...

Re: Doctor Who Asylum of the Daleks [spoilers]
Except that's actually consistent with the rest of the episode – the Daleks either completely ignore Amy and Rory, or react very slowly to their presence. I guess the equivalent might be that when you're soundly asleep people can talk nearby or walk around the room you're in and you don't react but...

Re: Doctor Who: Pond Life (Prequel to Series 7)
No, sorry, it is not the premise of the show. The premise is "Time travelling alien explores the universe and gets wrapped up in crazy adventures involving other aliens, and brings a few human friends along for the ride." The premise is not reliant on that time travelling alien being male ...

Re: Doctor Who Asylum of the Daleks [spoilers]
Rory wanted children really really bad and the Silence presumably sterilized her. She can't give her SO one of the major things he wants in life. Well here's a crazy thought - directed at Amy, not anyone here - instead of cranking out another baby for an already overcrowded planet, why don't you sh...

Re: Doctor Who Asylum of the Daleks [spoilers]
Also, in Victory of the Daleks, we saw a ragtag group of Daleks make a bomb small enough to fit inside a human torso, and powerful enough to destroy the Earth completely. So naturally a massive super-advanced Dalek fleet doesn't even consider sending a similar bomb down to blow the bloody asylum up....

Re: Doctor Who Asylum of the Daleks [spoilers]
Gave it a 4. It gets a bonus point for not having River Song in it. Yes I hate her that fucking much I will give points just for not having her around to steal the show. How is making a Dalek forget about the Doctor going to stop it from killing him? They're Daleks! They kill anything not Dalek! Whe...

So change 'bloke' to 'lady' and it's totally ruined?Eternal_Freedom wrote:As for a female Doctor, sorry, but I just don't think it would work. One, it would be most likely written badly, and two, it's supposed to be some random bloke in a box solving problems in time and space.

Re: Doctor Who: Pond Life (Prequel to Series 7)
The first Doctor and third Doctor were elderly. I know, I meant the tendency these days (especially with the BBC) to cast increasingly younger actors, to the point where the current Doctor is the youngest one yet. I'm convinced it's because, as I sarcastically claimed, producers/execs or whatever s...

Re: Doctor Who: Pond Life (Prequel to Series 7)
Kinda off-topic, but still Who related, I just read an interview with Matt Smith. He was asked about the possibility of a female Doctor, and his response basically boiled down to: *The Doctor having a baby. Because, y'know, if you have a female Doctor the only thing that crosses your mind is BABIES,...

Re: Colony Rescue on LV-426
I think it's mentioned that it takes two weeks to send a message back to Earth. Two weeks for Earth to recieve a distress call, three more weeks for aid to arrive ... even if they did call for help, they'd still be screwed. From what I gather, they lost contact with the colony three weeks after they...

Re: Colony Rescue on LV-426
It says that's it's cruising speed. Maybe for a rescue mission they went a bit faster than 'cruise' mode? I'm sure Burke wanted them to get there as fast as possible. The tech manual mentions that he fast-tracked the mission, and it's suspected that he knew they would have to send someone there from...

Re: Colony Rescue on LV-426
Oh and regarding the need to sleep due to some side-effect of the drive, I DID remember reading that somewhere but I don't think it was canon. The technical manual says that the FTL causes accelerated ageing, and that's one of the main reasons for the sleep capsules. It also has some other bits and...

I thought it was standard to beam from pad to pad when possible, so unless he beamed directly onto the bridge or whatever, the Enterprise pad would have received him through their transporter system, and that system would have scanned and reassembled him, biofilter check and all. I'd check the episo...

Thanks for completely ignoring me, guys. Okay, more specific - Star Trek TNG, Season 1 Episode 25, "Conspiracy". Admiral Quinn has a (macroscopic) alien parasite stuck in his neck, controlling him. He beams up to the Enterprise and the transporter neither detects nor removes the parasite. ...

The biofilter never detected or removed those alien parasites that stuck out from the back of their hosts necks, did they? The ones that took over Starfleet?
