To be fair Bob Brown and the Greens are pushing for massive water recycling and storm water reclaim nation. States like NSW only reclaim 3% of their storm water.

I working for one of the Australia State Rail companies. The short sightedness of governments, private industry and local people is amazing, you don't know when to laugh or cry. Example One : selling off the workshops (which are basically natural monopolies) and then wondering why repair costs have ...

Irrigators have been taking too much water for too long. But no-one would dare take them on, not this government and not the old government. The political howling from country people would be too much political pain. These same country people whine about dole bludgers in the city, while at the same ...

Its about flow rates as well. I don't think the increase in production will make up for the declines elsewhere in America.

Doesn't sound like it can be scaled up.

Sounds a bit too good to be true. I have heard a lot of these 'announcements' of wonderful magic bullet solutions to our resource problems. Most of them turn out to be a load of bullshit.

I think western nations have collectively lost our balls. We truly believe that wars can be won with high tech gizmos and relatively few forces on the ground (compared to the occupied area and population). If they really want to win, they got to bite the bullet and put more troops on the ground. Pro...

There is also the fact it is really the taxpayer who is subsidizing the company. A normal worker has to be paid a enough to at least feed, clothe and shelter themselves (Whether this is actually the case is debatable), but this is the general rule. A criminal can be paid 25 cents per hour because he...

The jobs that are being taken away are jobs that would have been done by people with few technical skills. Thats probably a fair statement. You could argue they should have gained more skills through training, education etc. Despite that, I still don't think its fair they should be shafted by a bunc...

The only one that actually worked that I have heard of is Biogas. Which is using genetically modified bacteria to breakdown garbage and release methane, which is then used as fuel. Not sure if its economically viable, but definitely can't be scaled up to meet the power needs of entire cities. Many o...

On top of that its the tax payers who are footing the bill for clothing, feeding, and detaining the inmates, while at the same time their jobs are being taken. What a rort.

On another note, wouldn't these prison industries would be driving honest * Americans out of a job? How can they possibly compete against 25 cents per hour?

* Honest as in obeying all the laws and staying out of prison

* technology advances exponentially with respect to time * oil production is proportional to technological advance. The first one is is an unjustifiable assumption. We have advanced technologically exponentially in the past, this does not mean that it will happen in future. Extracting oil depends on...

I have heard a lot of these magical fixes coming up. Apparent solutions to all our problems.

The problem with a lot of these technologies is they will never be able to produce oil at the quantities we need.

On top of that refineries have had their profit margins cut. The talk about lack of refinery capacity being the only bottleneck driving up prices is a load of rubbish. It's a factor but the central one. Which is simply, the demand for oil is starting to outstrip supply. It is difficult to find subst...

"OBSTRUCTIVE REGULATION!"

Nope, that wouldn't be it. It would be the oil glut of the 80's and 90's where oil prices collapsed. There was no financial incentive to build any.

I find libertarians are very similar to communists except on the opposite end of the spectrum. Communists believe in the power of government to solve everything and the libertarians believe in the mythical power of the 'free market' to solve everything. When you point out that real world application...
