Re: Star Trek into Darkness - Synopsis
And yet they went through all that trouble with Star Trek 2009 to tell us that the old timeline is gone... The new Kirk never went back into the 30s to meet Edith Keeler and the hobo never killed himself with a phaser. He never went back into the 60s to meet Gary Seven and never destroyed an Air Fo...

Little King's Story. Really under appreciated RPG/RTS thing. Actually quite good looking even with Wii hardware.

Re: Dragon's Dogma
I just wish it had more than 2 honest to goodness settlements and the actual settlements had more to them. The insides of nearly all the buildings are pretty spartan, which is a shame when the overall game world looks pretty lush.

Re: Best Civilization Title?
I've owned and played all of them. Though my first experience and one that is the most nostalgic to me is Colonization. Would love a true remake of that game (I know they did one with the IV engine, but it didn't improve enough for me). All the Civ games have had fond memories for me, except Civ III...

Re: Dark Souls, The Witcher 2, Dragon's Dogma, Kindoms Of Am
Got Dragon's Dogma for my birthday recently and I rather like it. The whole game so far *feels* different to a lot of RPGs, I love the scale of countryside and buildings. Love how you can barely see anything in the dark, even with a lamp. I think it's safe to say it's the first JRPG to go for an ope...

So the grand half season finale. (fucking americanised scheduling shit) -Oh. God another starting narration! That's like three episodes in a row. Find another fucking plot device. -crap, its full on-noir shit? Getting old quickly here. - you got to be kidding me is fucking right. The statue of libe...

Re: Attn: STARK - XCOM shit in this thread.
Resourcing is all about decisions apparently, and not spreadsheet whoring bullshit like the first game. The horribly stupid 'economy' in the first game is a great example if shit morons what to see again because they don't understand it actually sucked and detracted from the actual playing of the g...

Re: Attn: STARK - XCOM shit in this thread.
Yeah, apparently getting something always costs you something, and you aren't selling your huge boring list of shit to sidestep the funding process. I'm particularly interested to see of the starting locations can key into decisions - if you start in America and maintenance is cheap you might not v...

Re: Attn: STARK - XCOM shit in this thread.
I do get the feeling that the lead designer was definitely a huge fan of the original and I think he's genuine when he says he's aiming to build a game that feels like the original XCOM did back in the day. By the sound of things he went through a number of iterations, one of which being almost a co...

Re: Attn: STARK - XCOM shit in this thread.
They should have made the first scripted part completely stoppable, and more importantly (for me) allowed you to change the difficulty from easy without having to fiddle around with the files. Game is MUCH more entertaining when you play it on higher difficulty. I'm sure I suck terribly but on impos...

Loved it. My favourite bit is probably where Loki is having a bratty outburst about how he's a god and the Hulk is just a stupid beast, answered by the Hulk just thwacking him repeatedly into the floor.

I bet he says he's about 900 years old in the same way he calls himself John Smith. It avoids a more complicated answer.

Re: Biggest disappointment of 2011
Dragon Age II is the big one for me. I loved the original, the sequel just simplified so much for no real good reason (and I'm not usually one to argue for complicated elements for the sake of them, I can appreciate a good bit of streamlining in a game). Besides that I've been fairly content with th...

Re: Syndicate trailer
I can't pretend I'm not disappointed to not see a squad based tactical Syndicate game being made, but this DOES look like a respectful FPS remake of the originals at least.
If it's successful maybe they could have a squad based spin-off... um... called Syndicate Wars. :p

Re: 3DS to get a second analog stick?
It's lacking foresight when you're adding one so soon after they released the 3DS. What I'm hearing is that Nintendo feels it limits the types of games they can put on the system (and they'd be right). They have a shitty extension you can plug into the 3DS, and I wouldn't be surprised if they releas...

MiniSquadron is an excellent little 2d dogfighting game. UniWar is a fun hex-based turn based strategy game, well optimised for phones. StupidZombies is sorta like AngryBirds, except you shoot zombies with bouncing bullets. ProEvolutionSoccer2011, probably the best football game on Android at the mo...

Re: Torchwood: Miracle Day thread
So far it seems to me the whole Torchwood all over the internet thing was intended to lure Jack back to Earth so he could erase it. Once back whatever weird energy inside him was somehow used to do this morphic field thing to the rest of the planet.

I was under the impression that Starz and the BBC were equal partners in this, and it was simply bad planning on the BBC's part that had them schedule it in later.

Re: Mass British Public Sector Strikes Begin
My good wife (a teacher) was taking part in the strike yesterday. She was kinda strong-armed into it, about 13 people went up to her and demanded to know if she was striking and basically told her she would be isolated by her peers if she came to work. Up until a few days before the strike she wasn'...

Re: The Silence invade Star Wars
Presumably these hive races would forget once that individual member of the hive stopped looking at them. Conversely, the entire hive could potentially be controlled by the Silence telling one of them what to do. Not that they'd need to. These shipbuilders might be all over the galaxy by I doubt the...

Did you look up when that point whisked over your head? Let's be honest, if DNF hadn't been in development for 10+ years, becoming the literal post child of vaporware, would anyone care about it today? It's an ancient shooter based on ancient game design that has been out of use for years. But oh i...

It's just struck me that if I were a leftie I'd probably end up burning my hand up, since the exhaust on my laptop is on the left hand side.
