Re: The Force Unleashed - yes, I know I'm late to the party.

Oh man I didn't think you'd fall for the hooks! If your definition of 'original' is so stringent, then Mario had a jump button so Skydiving simulators are 'uninspired'. :) Stringent? No more than you're being for KOTOR. I hate to say it, but yeah, the playstyle isn't that of other SW games, It's Je...

Re: The Force Unleashed - yes, I know I'm late to the party.

Stop agreeing with him and arguing just to prove how edgy and nerd-cool you are for hating TFU. It's pretty sad you think the game doesn't do anything 'original' for a SW game when it has original gameplay features, original premise, new events in the story, much more characterisation of Vader and ...

Re: The Force Unleashed - yes, I know I'm late to the party.

Thanks for explaining why you don't like TFU and can't be objective about the attributes of it's story. And sorry, a part of the TFU ZOMG SUPAH FIGHTAH angle is that you're Darth Vader's apprentice. Frankly I think it was a good decision as it clearly tells everyone 'this is a game where things are...

Re: The Force Unleashed - yes, I know I'm late to the party.

Thanks for restating that you like KotoR. I had forgotten. What's sad is that you admit that KotoR has lazy, uninspired plotting and it's good, yet you HATE TFU for having a plot you simply DON'T LIKE. Hilarious. BTW, KotoR good/bad is actually totally irrelevant to the discussion, since Ford's poi...

Re: The Force Unleashed - yes, I know I'm late to the party.

I'm clearly talking to a brick wall. If you don't think betrayal and a realisation that your father doesn't love you are valid angles for characterisation then you are a moron . If your standards are so high, why don't you tell us what you believe would be valid for character development. They are ...

O fallen defenders of ASVS, we have been avenged!

On a side note, what do you tweak to allow more than one Mandator-II? The mod will only let me build one.

Re: So... Saints Row 2? (Spoilers)

Planes are plot-irrelevant but absolutely trivial to get. I've got a few WW2 fighters and a learjet in my hanger; you just drive to the airport and drive around the runway until you see one you like. They are USELESS though. :) That's what I mean, oh yay an unarmed Learjet, or a piper-cub, or a Hel...

Re: The Force Unleashed - yes, I know I'm late to the party.

DOUBLE SIGH. This is my point, that you're incapable of being objective about this because you like KotoR and you don't like TFU. I *am* being objective. I like KOTOR because it's a decent RPG with a passable story. Yes it rehashes the plot of the original movies, but it does it in an interesting w...

Re: The Force Unleashed - yes, I know I'm late to the party.

Oh for fuck's sake. Yes, Starkiller kills people, no that is not the defining part of his character development . Oh yes it is. He's Vader's attack dog. He's marketed as Vader's attack dog. His character is defined as Vader's attack dog. And he's too damn dense to ever be anything other than that u...

Re: The Force Unleashed - yes, I know I'm late to the party.

*sigh*. That was my point, which you disagreed with. You just like KotoR and don't like TFU. Oh noes character is bald wah wah! I hate the design, but I can recognise that's irrelevant to the plot. True, but I also believe KOTOR has more merit in it's design and story than TFU will ever have. That ...

Re: The Force Unleashed - yes, I know I'm late to the party.

Oh dear. I'm not going to explain to you why it's funny that you laugh at TFU's ridiculous plot but expect to be shown what's wrong with KotoRs ridiculous plot. I know it's flaws, I just think those flaws are forgivable. TFU's aren't. Since TFU doesn't have to fit with the movies, who cares if it d...

Re: The Force Unleashed - yes, I know I'm late to the party.

Yeah I got that, but then you're comparing it to a game like TFU which is all about how many Stormtroopers you can crush with a TIE fighter on the head. I hear that TFU's character development takes place in the beat 'em up sections? My complaint, which isn't exactly complex, is that KotOR's develo...

Re: The Force Unleashed - yes, I know I'm late to the party.

Sorry pal, KotoR's writing is awful too. People just think it isn't becasue... shit, I actually don't know why. People tell me Mass Effect has a good story too, so I think it's some kind of infection. At least TFU doesn't have visors of +5% to-hit. And what is so irrevocably bad about KOTOR's writi...

Re: The Force Unleashed - yes, I know I'm late to the party.

ITT we learn that Onasi is a KotoR fanboy who hates TFU. It's sad because I think TFU is a terrible game, but due to level design and other issues, not because it enrages my SW fan spirit. :) Yes because it's not like I've continually acknowledged KOTOR'S glaring flaws. And I hate TFU for it...

Re: The Force Unleashed - yes, I know I'm late to the party.

Yeah cause Darth Skinhead totally doesn't murder people in ridiculously gratuitous ways. Uh, hello? My complaint wasn't that you kill people in KotOR, just that in order to represent you as a bad person, the Dark Side options almost invariably lead you to just randomly killing people. Yeah I got th...

Re: The Force Unleashed - yes, I know I'm late to the party.

Uhhh, so you're saying KoToR isn't full of stupid plot twists, unbelievable romance and characters single-handedly shaping the galactic situation? If you are, I must refer you to the content of the games in question. Sure it is. But then, so were the Star Wars movies. But it was done reasonably wel...

Re: So... Saints Row 2? (Spoilers)

I guess the plot resembles the sociopathic nature of the main character.
It's all fun and games then suddenly VIOLENCE AND TERROR. And Texas funerals.

"I guess this makes us even."

*BANG! Headshot!*

"Not really.."

^Loved that scene.

Re: The Force Unleashed - yes, I know I'm late to the party.

Problem is, different doesn't always mean better. And TFU's angsty OH NOES BETRAYAL, RAR! REVENGE! And SPONTANEOUS ROMANCE with the obligatory useless female companion (because macho men aren't macho without one!) ain't exactly original. Let's not forget Skinhead is a Gary Stu one man army who creat...

Yeah cause Darth Skinhead totally doesn't murder people in ridiculously gratuitous ways. And honestly, "Darth Vader's secret apprentice?" I've seen better premises in fan fiction. I'm rather miffed that there's no plane/boat customisation. Nor can you customise the General's limo (granted, you can only get it through glitching, but still).
And there's seemingly no way to raise the landing gears on a plane.

Re: BSG: Caprica

That would be 'wishful thinking', but the circumstances of the utility/probability confusion are irrelevant, the basic flaw of believing something to be true because it would be nice if it was true is not something any competent designer would permit. Sad to say it though, there are plenty of fooli...

Re: BSG: Caprica

Rationality has nothing to do with imagination; even in crosstalk-prone humans the correlation between those two virtues is dubious at best. Rationality means not assigning a high probability of your fantasies actually matching reality unless there is copious evidence to support that correspondence...

Re: BSG: Caprica

Well in a sense a true AI capable of full sapience should be just as irrational as us. Why? Human irrationality is a design flaw. Remember that humans are the very first generally intelligent organisms evolution (on Earth) managed to produce, and as such can be expected to suck. I wouldn't really c...
